Hello Members of the media (I know you read this)....why not do some investigative journalism into the very serious, life threatening issue of fire department and EMS departments in Westchester County vis-a-vis, oftentimes ridiculously long response times, inadequately trained responders, duplication of resources, lack of transparency in regard to finances and frankly many other issues within lots of departments. This is serious stuff!
Disclaimer- , I must very clearly state....this is not an attack on volunteer Firefighters, EMS workers or their departments! There are many dedicated and knowledgeable volunteer members of emergency services in this region. However, the SYSTEM is BROKEN!
Positive change very rarely comes from inside of an organization, but rather through blunt force trauma from the outside. Well media, how about a little blunt force trauma in regard to this issue? Personally, my own department has been going through some blunt force trauma from certain segments of the media lately, and I'm ok with that- there's nothing to hide, no organization is perfect, transparency and acceptance of change are good things....Why are volunteer organizations who equally hold the fate of people's lives and property (and taxes) in their hands getting a pass from the media?
In closing, I will pre-emptively state that I will not be engaging in a back and forth bicker on this topic, and yes, I do anticipate attempts at deflecting from the issue at hand by attacking myself personally as well as my own department. So, please don't take my non-responsiveness as acquiesence, agreement, or defeat. I'm just too busy to bother with responding to all of it. This post is really just for the media- maybe someday someone in the media in this area will wake up and realize how honest reporting in regard to this crisis would save lives, property and dollars. I'm not optimistic though, because I guess it's just easier to attack salaries, benefits, and pensions, and ignore an almost completely broken system right next door.
stay safe and qtip brothers and sisters!

Shhhhhh. maybe the public wont notice and we can keep the hundreds of unmanned or undermanned rigs, because its clearly not about the public but about us.

Then it's off to get lunch, then down to my office to show my stepson what his old pal Jimmy does for a living. As we walk into the PSAC that time forgot, a 2nd Alarm being transmitted for Manhattan Box 76. Pre-requisite bathroom breaks, and off we go. Mind you, we drove past this not even 15 minutes before, and saw NOTHING!!!!
    Rescue 1, L-118(Think I took this with the cell), L-6, E-14, E-15, E-7, and Squad.

Not now, Chief, I'm in the #@%^ing Zone!!!

On the way home, the little guy needed a bathroom break. Then again, so did his mom and me. We stopped at 95 Engine and took care of things. They got a run as I was leaving, so the little guy got to see them turning out, which put a nice sized smile on his face.
Hope ya like the pix. Enjoy!!

I am sure that if you get questioned and pull out a pre-printed copy of an operations order and try to tell the polic officer his job he will be very happy.....

I would just like to reach out and thank our brothers and sisters involved in bringing and letting us have their 1977 Oren. The Mahopac fire department generously donated the rig to our department, Sharon Fire Department. We have been struggling to keep our apparatus running and operating, it is a huge relief that we now know we have neighbors(could be far) that would do such a thing. I am sure, from what i heard, it will serve us great. I was sent a photo via email early this morning of it about to leave it's quarters for the last time. Now, ofcourse it made us happy, but we feel for their department for a loss, a loss because that engine served them well, we all know how they will miss it.
Again a very big thank you to everyone involved in making this occur, as it is greatly appreciated by us. They even lettered it for us too. We should be expecting the rig within a day or so. Then go from there.
    A photo before being shipped..

Have a great day all any questions just ask

I think 11 or 12. 2 in Manhattan, 2 in the Bronx, 1 in SI, 3 in BK, 2 in Q. There's a Truck Eleven which I have seen, but not sure what it's for. As far as the little trucks, ya got me.

The FAA defined the there designations of "Alert". That's the national standard and defined in Federal Aviation Regulations.
    From the regs:
Westchester just tried to quantify it since there's no way to know from an "Alert 3" response if there is an Airbus with 155 people coming in or a Cessna with 2.
It may seem complicated but it is designed to give responders more information.

I'm still wondering why these clowns haven't gotten a few new ones ripped by the state for heaven knows what shenanigans they have pulled. I did have an interesting experience recently while driving into work. I'm coming off of 17 and onto the Thruway at Woodbury or Harriman, or whatever that toll booth is. I see a bus behind me, L&S. I don't think anything of it, and happily herp a derp my way down the Thruway. I see the bus in my rear view, still responding to whatever. I still don't think anything of it. They finally pass me at the TZ and that's when I see the Hatzolah markings. I catch up to them somewhere in Yonkers, and follow them all the way into the city. Mind you, this is what, 40, 50 miles?? I see them getting off the Deegan at Van Cortlandt Park South. The first thought that went through my mind was, "What, they don't have a bus available in Riverdale.??? Such a thing.
