    Nice work by the troopers!
I agree it looks like they kicked the hat out of the way.
This time video shows police handled it the right way.

What Brand Of Ambulance does your service have? Pros and Cons?

IMHO if it is a Fire or EMS vehicle it should have a lightbar and clear graphics/lettering, none of this ghost stuff and none of this slicktop stuff. You are not police. Unless you are in Massachusetts and then unmarked fire chief vehicles are ok, haha.

One big difference. Almost every EMS bill is in large part paid for with a 3rd party insurance.
Also the fire service started out that way (insurance company paying for protection) and it was a disaster. Most cities stopped it, when they determined it was causing arson, riots and conflagrations.
Also, Fire Department funding in most cities is used to reduce insurance premiums and promote development. Good fire depts. help economic development, EMS does not do that.

Kind of amazed at the level of misinformation presented here. The basic facts are:
The Somers Fire District did originally end the WEMS dispatching contract as of 12/31/13. At their request, they extended the contract twice, currently slated to end 9/30/14. WEMS agreed to this for the benefit of the district and the town. This gives them the needed time to fully switch to 60-Control, which is the current plan. The plan for WEMS is to re-locate our dispatch center to our HQ where it can better be managed at the end of the current contract.
Prior to WEMS being contracted in 2002, SFD employed their own dispatchers. They felt rather than continue to manage staff, it would be beneficial to outsource for personnel. The staff is shared between the two services which saved SFD a considerable amount of money rather than having dedicated dispatchers. In addition to dispatching, the dispatchers provide a considerable number of services including monitoring security cameras for four stations with over a dozen pieces of equipment. They also help manage the LOSAP system, state reporting, and possibly most importantly they provide a 24 hour emergency presence in town, since there is no full time police department. This was well appreciated with the recent storms of the last few years.
The SFD continues to evaluate the costs and benefits of using their own dispatchers, with WEMS, or switching to 60-Control. There's really no "drama" or "controversy".

    Most treads are high jacked!
We can't just answer the question asked.
It's not about what to do the right way ---- It's always about what we are doing the wrong way!
  10. x635 liked a post in a topic by huzzie59 in Duration a FAST Unit Should Remain On Scene?
No, no, no. Maybe I wasn't clear. Every tread ends up being a rant and complaint about politics and how we need to regionalize, mis-abuse of mutual aid, yada, yada, yada.
The main question is how long FAST should stay on scene. I don't expect a simple answer at all. People with a lot more knowledge than me can answer the question and give all the pros and cons.
I don't live in a bubble. I know there are issues.
Please answer the questions and strike up intelligent conversation.
    See that, hijacked again.
  11. huzzie59 liked a post in a topic by TimesUp in The difference between Ladder Tower and Tower Ladder
Ladder towers were used in medieval time to attack castles. Archers would shoot at the castle defender from the top. Game of Throwns starts soon. Tower Ladders are the safest type of ariels in the fire service. Rearmount ladders are unpredictable and have been known to hit firefighters in the head while operating at fires.

There are devices available to keep the ambulance running. We have a simple button on the dashboard. Push the button, turn the key to the off position and pull out the key. The rig stays running. Get back in the rig, insert the key and off you go. Anyone who jumps in and steps on the brake to take the truck out of park causes the engine to shutoff.

We have ALL had issues. But how we address the issues set us apart from one another. Having lost a number of key members there was a time we would have paid personnel at night. And yes, they would respond to our neighbors, but then again, are we not in this business to serve the public? Because of a line on a map, I should complain for crossing that line?

Let's look at the way the fire system works - The fire departments get a real job and they back fill right away. EMS doesn't unless there is a fire and there is an extended standby. So, does being out for an hour on a call justify calling for mutual aid to standby? Thereby reducing response time?

As I stated earlier, we always have a primary duty crew. Being dispatched by our PD, they don't wait for 5 pages to call for mutual aid. If no calls are received right away, they go mutual aid.

I do think it's time for an open and honest discussion about EMS in Greenburgh. The question is, generally, not who we help first, but how do we handle the second and third calls and help those people.

And, I think it's highly unfair to think a crew would "hang out" a Phelps to miss a call.

So, Westchester, you've been a member here for a month or so , welcome.
How many years have you been around Irvington?
What about the 15 years prior to Dobbs Ferry hiring paid personnel when Irvington covered more calls in Dobbs than they did in Irvington?
Maybe Irvington can back charge Dobbs for all of the calls and they would have enough money to hire paid personnel?
