I didn't see anything in any above post that was insulting or telling Fairview how to proceed. What has you set off exactly?

I know this has been discussed before, but here is another group considering consolidation.

In watching the news conference, it was very clear that they only want to hear what they want to hear and anything else can not (in there minds) be the truth.
One lesson here was indentified by Indian Jones

"never bring a knife to a gun fight"

Not every firefighter of color got on because of some court order or a quota. There are minority firefighters who went through the hiring process in the same fashion as the other candidates and didn't have to deal with Court orders and such. To do the right thing is give everyone a fair shot at preparing for an exam. I hope you see those of us as a Brother/Sister and not some "Black that took his Kid's job away".

I know of lots of changes since I got into the fire service. Most of the changes for me happened before 2001 however.
We used to ride back steps, gasoline motored rigs with manual chokes and bias ply tires, no onboard generators. Pump panel throttles were connected by a cable, not electronic. We wore long coats, rubber pullup boots, fireball gloves, no hoods, steel bottle 2216 psi packs with an elephant trunk. Nobody had TIC, PASS alarms, or rechargable handlights and only Chief officers had a portable radio. Acountability systems? Seatbelts? Yeah, right! Bunker pants were a West Coast novelty. Laying a supply line meant 3" hose, single or double lay, depended on how bad the fire looked. This is what I remember since 1986. I know there are guys on here older than me that have seen even more changes in their time on.

I had the same thought. I hate seeing videos like this, especially when the people involved in the video think everything was great and make no effort to train and improve for their next opportunity to perform. Career and Volunteer: Same fires, dangers and consequences. If you want to be safe and professional, you need to train like your life depends on it!

Newburgh's rig was in service into the 70s, I believe. It was loaned to New Windsor FD, who remotored it, and then re-aquired by Newburgh

I'm pretty sure it was a FWD. It was quartered at 492 Broadway with Engine 3. Don't know if it is this truck, but it looks similar

Only my opinion, but I think they are making things way more complicated than they need to be. A neighboring county has a better, simpler system that has worked for years. again, my opinion.

City of Newburgh staffs 2 engines and the truck with a minimum of a driver, officer, and fireman plus an assistant chief, 24/7.
City of Newburgh was not called to this fire for whatever reason. Maybe at a mile and a half, we are too far away to get there quickly.

This is an interesting thread. IMO it really does a lot to demonstrate the mindset held by many members of the Fire Service in this region which is such a disservice to those we are sworn to protect and to our own fellow Firefighters....with the exception of helicoppers question regarding manpower (and he is a cop, not a Firefighter), and one other question and answer in regard to White Plains manpower, the whole thread so far is all about how many apparatus respond, with no mention of personnel.
Guys, Firefighters put out fires...Firefighters who are adequately trained and certified for interior firefighting and physically capable. A certain amount and type of apparatus, of course, is necessary, however, listing how many apparatus respond to structure fires is not only worthless in terms of assessing a department's capabilities, it is misleading.
