First, your question could be raised RIGHT NOW about the 2nd alarm in Valhalla.  They skipped over a staffed tower ladder in White Plains and Fairview to call a tower ladder in West Harrison.

If you have such an issue that the county team that takes over 40 mins to get out and on location ... And we all know that 2001 responds by himself to check and verify (regardless of what the IC states or requests [EDIT: This JUST happened at the Valhalla fire...]) and then an unknown response of unknown number and unknown trained personnel respond... Wasn't utilized, call the Assistant Chief of the department and ask him himself.

Better yet, because you know exactly who he is, why not ask him face to face of why he made that call, rather than anonymously and blindly question every facet of his decision made yesterday. Figure out exactly why he did, then come back and with facts, explain it to us.

Picture of the Snorkel after it left Newburgh.  With lots of wires and narrow streets, it didnt stay here long, and went to Monticello next.  How long they had it, I do not know. Poughkeepsie had one for a short time too

This was the Snorkel that Newburgh tried. With lots of wires and narrow streets, it only stayed a short time. It then went to Monticello, I don't know how long the kept it though.

No interior stairs? Really? Is that the best you can come up with?

You did notice the members that were seen in the video walking inside on the second floor with hand lights (at the same time that someone was arbitrarily taking out a window from a ladder).

Looked good for Mommy or your Istantgram profile pic, could have just as easily been opened up by hand from the guy standing inside.

The attic space on a house like this is relatively small. Fires in attics such as this work best when water actually comes in contact with the fire.

Given that the roof is designed to shed water, a couple of holes from below and some application of water and we can save the numerous tones, air horn extravaganza, and epic battle poses for a fire that may actually be deserving of such.

The more videos like this that appear, I really wonder if the fire service of today is about production for social media or about effectiveness of tactics and extinguishment.

    Flame on.

Sorry, maybe I'm missing a whole lot, but WTF!!! No one could figure out how to prevent the fire from getting inside? Maybe hit the eaves and let the water wash down the siding from a safe point away from the power? Hell dry chemical upon arrival? Seems like maybe getting inside in the rooms with windows directly being exposed to the outside fire might have been a good idea? Amateur hour in NJ?

that's actually false. there are laws that specifically outline how 2% and fundraising money can be spent.

When the Sh** is hitting the fan on the fire floor or the floor above, language frequently gets salty. Anyone who has spent some time in zero visibility and high heat while searching for life, forcing doors, getting a line into position or trying to find their way out would likely agree.

Some years ago I would have agreed with this, but today F@#k this, F@#k that and f@#k the other thing, IS the language of the public realm. Nobody cares how many f@#ks one gives anymore. I mean jeez, just about any movie you see has more F bombs than anything else in the dialogue for Christ's sake.

On the video, honestly, if telling a crew to get their line in place and "put the f@#king fire out" over the radio gets them moving to do just that...well then that's A-OK in my book. But hey, my ears lost their virginity a long long time ago so...

Are we really trying to make an issue on this ?   Did you write this from your safe space?  If you have a problem with the way the chief spoke why don't you take a drive to talk to him.  And I'm sure he'll tell you to get the f*** outta his office.  If you're not gonna do that I suggest you stop being a keyboard warrior and focus on something else that matters more

If that's what it takes to get your point across to get the job done, so be it.
    Hope everyone went home safe.

We've become so PC and pussified in recent years, it's scary.
Does is sound professional? Maybe not. But the men making these statements are likely some of the most professional in the business.

Unfortunately, most citizens don't worry about their fire coverage...until they need it.
As many of you have stated, most civilians are clueless as to what or who is protecting them.
I can't tell you how many times I've heard "I live in New Windsor, why are you (Vails Gate) here?" Well, because you live in the Vails Gate fire district, within the Town of New Windsor.
I am currently purchasing a home in another fire district. Some of my first questions were "what is the water system" and "what emergency services am I getting?" That is because I know enough to ask.
Many people will say you can't justify a career dept in XYZ town. Well, it would be justified the first fire where a life or property were saved, no?
A good start toward this would be (do I dare say it), consolidation.

IMO, the video also shows a deficiency in the areas of training/tactics/experience.  The first in suppression unit appears to be just out of view on the right hand side and appears to be an engine.  The appear to park a fair bit back from the house and stretch a couple of handlines and a couple of minutes later, what appears to be a weak stream from a deck gun appears.  The deck gun is doing little to help since the stream is so broken/weak by the time it gets near the house.  It kind of seems like they had the right strategy, but the wrong execution.

This fire was begging for the first engine to park directly in front of it and dump it's tank on the fire with the deckgun while a water supply was established and handlines stretched for protection/suppression (assuming the manpower to do that which they appear to have had in this case).

While arriving quickly is certainly important, it's equally important to know what you should be doing once you get there and then do it.
