I wasn't sure where to put this topic so feel free to move it to where it belongs.
I felt this needed to be discussed openly with all of our brothers/sisters in a constructive way to hopefully prevent any future LODD's from MI's.
I for one, am extrememly overweight and have a vast family history of heart troubles and it scares me to see all of these firefighters passing from heart related issues, medical issues, or "Unknown" medical issues AFTER the call. How many LODD notices have I read lately with the firefighter passing at the station, or at home some time after the call has ended? How many have passed at the scene or at the station after responding for a call?
We need to step-up our efforts to increase physical fitness in the fire service and prevent each other from dropping with heart attacks and strokes. We need to encourage each other to improve our level of physical fitness, and start eating right.
You see grants being written for firefighting equipment, gear and trucks...but how about gym equipment for the station? It wouldnt take much to get a treadmill or bike, and some free weights at each station, Im even sure there are members out there who have the stuff lying around their homes that could store it at their station for all to use in an effort to keep everyone fit.
I want to loose weight, and I want to be there for my daughter when she graduates school, gets married and has kids of her own but its hard without help and encouragement. What does everyone else say about this issue?
    Stay safe AND healthy.

Thank you for posting this. It is so important to support Autism and other learning/physical disabilities. In my quest to become a music educator and music therapist, I have had the honor of teaching tons of children with various disabilities varying in severity. These children and adults have touched my heart and are the most loving and sincere people have have ever met. With such an increase in learning and physical disabilities over the past years I can't help but to pray that over time, causes are discovered and treatments are found/developed.

    3 simple rules to follow,
    1. If you are going to dish it out, then you better be able to take it in return.
    2. Before you dish it out, ask yourself how you would feel if the shoe was on the other foot.
    3. When someone tells you to stop, stop, it is no longer busting chops but now harassment.

All of our rigs carry basic first aid jump bags, oxygen tanks and AED's. These jump bags are not full BLS jump bags. We do not run EMS so the bags are mainly for member use for minor things. R47 also has a backboard/stokes.

Rest in Peace, Thoughts and prayers are with the family and BMFD. Having lost my 42 year old father when I was only 5, I can't help but feel for his young children. My words of encouragement for them are that the pain never subsides but life does go on, he will be watching over you with a smiling face as you make the most out of the long lives ahead of you. The tears will turn into smiles as great memories of your father fill you mind and as you continue to honor his legacy.

I do not have specifics relating to pulling weight, etc but this crosslay set-up seems to retain a good amount of the front bumpers integrity since the ends are not open. I am not sure of the towing capacity with the two hooks underneath the bumper. (Potsdam FD's Engine 49)

  25. PFDRes47cue liked a post in a topic by IzzyEng4 in Tower Ladder Video
Effective streams vs. non-effective streams. There is a lot of good learning here in this video. Too bad we didn't find it six years ago when it was first posted on youtube. I love looking at good vids and making them into training material
First off, it still amazes me that we as firefighters still pull 1 3/4" lines when we see that much fire. The first lines off the first due engine were both matties (see 2:50 mark in video). Granted I'll have critic say "well we only have XXX gallons of water" but with that much fire and heat, and the really bad exposure problem (I hate developments like this), go right for blitz attack. Practically all modern pumper shave deck / stang guns, use them! We all have big 2 1/2" lines, use them! The minimum diameter line that should be pulled off first should be at least a 2" hose line. Remember this equation: Big Fire = Big Water, GPM battles BTUs.
I think though the tactics were good, one line right to the B side exposure (white hose) as you can see the siding melted off in the video. All these homes are the same construction (cracker boxes in my opinion) and the focus on the exposure problem. I can't tell where the blue line goes except for some place on the D-side.
The tower bucket crew did good work hitting the center of the fire was and worked its way around. Looking at their rig on the dept's website, they have dual monitors (a big plus on TLs in my book). The only utilized one, the smoothbore. More than likely they they didn't have enough water but this would have been ideal to use the adjustable stream on this fire. More than likely getting the smoothbore in operations was priority due to the amount of fire, still a good call. Just think if they had enough water to operate both guns, the fire would have gone out quicker. A pumper with a two-stage pump set in volume would have helped supplied but again if their isn't enough water, you have to do whatever it takes.
Again overall from what we see on the vid, the crews did a hell of an effort and the ICs appeared to have made good calls protecting the crews.
