Let me clear this up for you being an FDNY dispatcher.. When you called 911, you were connected with a civilian call taker working for nypd unified call taking system.. This person takes all the information, important and not, and is SUPPOSED to connect the caller to the appropriate agency for the type of emergency... Unfortunately the system is extremely flawed as you have seen first hand.. The person that called you back was probably from FDNY EMS. trying to get the correct information..
This is what we have been fighting Bloomburg and his administration over for years... Millions of dollars pumped into a system that is dangerous to the public.....

Don't take everything you hear in here to heart; take it from the source.

NYPD continues to operate seven helicopters, four Agusta 119 patrol aircraft and three Bell 412 air-sea rescue helicopters (two marked, one unmarked). This one is the scheduled replacement for the one that had the combining gearbox failure and emergency landing in Jamaica Bay a couple of years ago. I believe there is another 412 replacement in the works and they are researching the scheduled replacement of the Agusta 119's too.
This is a similar 412 to the ones they already operate just with more robust radiation detection equipment aboard.
May they get many safe and uneventful hours of flight out of it!
Nope, not an airplane. That was the tailboom of the other 412.

I disagree Chris, respectfully. I think it is very important that we continue to take opportunities when available to educate the public concerning the fact that monies which are donated to volunteer fire departments rarely, if ever, are used for purchase of firefighting equipment, or for training, or such purposes, but rather the monies people donate to volunteer fire departments are used for parties, extravagant dinners, vacations and excursions, etc.
Also, it is important to continue to emphasize that although there are lots of dedicated volunteer firefighters, such as Nick, who want to do the right thing in regard to being trained, prepared, and ACCOUNTABLE, there are many other volunteer firefighters who take advantage of the system, collect pensions and other perks, use the firehouses as a social club, and who have extremely little legitimate training, are unable to provide the service they claim they provide, and are basically accountable to no one.

My name is Kevin Freeman and it was my house, 22 Woodside Ave, that burned to the ground. Thankfully nobody was home at the time. My wife watched from the street and called me to come home just after 4pm. Longest commute of my life.
We're living in a hotel in New Rochelle now and dealing with all the madness. Obviously our lives will never be the same, but it could've been a lot worse if it happened at night. The house was totally engulfed in a matter of minutes.
I just came from a meeting with investigators who showed me crazy pictures of the incident I could hardly believe. They mentioned this site, but those shots aren't here. The pictures in this thread were from around when I got home and the firefighters were working on saving my neighbors place.
He's hoping they'll tear it down with all the water and smoke damage.
We have a storage locker already filled with clothes. People have been so supportive and generous. I wish I could say thank you to everybody personally. My work set up a site for me www.22woodsidefund.org. We'll take a beating on the contents insurance for sure.
BUT we'll rebuild. Thanks again for all the support.

I suggest we all write our congressman and either ban purple lights or tax them heavily. If it's dumb, our legislators will surely put it into law.
OOPS...I take that back...I'm getting old.
Congress might take it the wrong way and ban funerals altogether.
