After graduating PA school on the 11th, I took a small trip to Bermuda. Definitely needed a getaway to lay low and relax after studying my butt off these past couple years. While I was down there I stopped by the local FD and grabbed a couple quick shots. I was pressed for time so I wasn't there long. One FF came out and was very happy to talk to me and show me the rig, very nice guy. Anyways - just thought i'd share.
This station only had one rig at the time. I asked a little bit about what they usually see on a regular basis. Per the FF, they mostly respond to MVAs and MCA. I was told there is at least one fatal a week on the island with all the small streets and motorcycle/scooter drivers. Mix a little EToH, cell phones, speed and you get the picture. As for structure fires, he told me it is usually a room and contents type deal. Home construction on the island is usually a noncombustible type material and limestone roofs. All roof's are Limestone as they use it to catch rain water for home use.
I didn't have time to get into all the gear/tools/whatnot so here's what I grabbed.
Bermuda Fire Service - Port Royal Station (main headquarters are located in Hamilton Bermuda, didn't make it there)

    200? Spartan/Dependable - 25' long, I believe he said 60 gallons of foam and 2 maybe 300 gallons of water. I can't remember exactly.

Police/Rescue boat I saw in Dockyard - I wasn't able to get a better shot than this one.

    Enjoy

I would just like to reach out and thank our brothers and sisters involved in bringing and letting us have their 1977 Oren. The Mahopac fire department generously donated the rig to our department, Sharon Fire Department. We have been struggling to keep our apparatus running and operating, it is a huge relief that we now know we have neighbors(could be far) that would do such a thing. I am sure, from what i heard, it will serve us great. I was sent a photo via email early this morning of it about to leave it's quarters for the last time. Now, ofcourse it made us happy, but we feel for their department for a loss, a loss because that engine served them well, we all know how they will miss it.
Again a very big thank you to everyone involved in making this occur, as it is greatly appreciated by us. They even lettered it for us too. We should be expecting the rig within a day or so. Then go from there.
    A photo before being shipped..

Have a great day all any questions just ask

So I just finished up an incredible week out in the Outer Banks of North Carolina; for those of you who have been there, I really don't need to say more, and for those of you who have not been there, be sure to put it on your future vacation bucket list. I have never been one to take photos of apparatus, but with the help of my sister's new Nikon D60 camera, I figured I would give it a shot. I know some of the pictures didn't come out perfect, but I hope the majority are worth looking at.

Being a jew myself I can speak freely. These individuals in almost EVERY aspect take advantage of the Earth. From the blatant violation of the sanctity of marriage to the flagrant misuse of the vehicle and traffic laws they just rape and pillage. I am so happy that I live in Putnam far from the filth that they call home in many towns in Orange and Rockland. I feel for all of you that must deal with these people with such a feel of entitlement. They use their supposed block voting to scare every single politician in to succumbing to their needs. We need someone with a set to just tell them to STFU get off welfare and stop playing games. All we need is a law stating that two people living together legally, and verified through surveillance, which I am sure we can get volunteers to do, shall not be the beneficiary of social services.

After months of work, one of our members recently put together this video "trailer" to help us attract some newer members, and to show people what we do and who we are.
We are in the midst of a recruitment campaign that will be unveiling soon. It will feature a new website (I hope), a recently created Facebook page (facebook.com/crotonfire) and signs/posters put up around our community.
Please check out the video and let the creator, Meraash, know how nicely done it is.
    Thanks.

Who cares!!!! If a department wants to run its own aerial truck, rescue or what ever they have the right too. Remember one thing, it all ends when Mr. & Mrs. Taxpayer start asking "Why is our (insert the vehicle) keeps going to the other town instead of protecting our own?" why do we have to rely on mutual aid on every call??

Fire inside of a basement apartment, located at #189 Drake Avenue, in the rear. NRFD responded and quickly knocked down the fire. Fire broke out at the exact same time that NRPD was attempting to locate an armed EDP in a private residence directly adjacent to the fire location - was thought that the fire may possibly have been related, or set by the EDP, but it was a seperate incident.

One of 2 of Port Arthurs new industrial pumpers. E-6, finally got to nab some pics just a while ago while clearing up from a med call. They purchased 2 identical (E-1, being the other) industrial pumpers that they utilize for both residential and industrial. $775,000 a piece. Funny lil fact, there are 3 roads in town that they can't turn down lol. They are just a tad shorter than their 100' platform.

Totally agree. A very nice departure from the norm, there should always be room for a little levity whether you are in on the joke or not.
  19. FF398 liked a post in a topic by Dinosaur in Brewster Parade Photos
Sonny, you really need to lighten up! This wasn't an annual inspection or an emergency response. It was a parade and they were having fun, as they should. I thought it was funny and I knew none of the back story or the relationship between Mill Plains and Brewster (thanks FitzJr for sharing).
I think the "skit" as fitz described it is a pleasant distraction from the line of trucks and the rigid formations of uniforms. So people may not have known the inner workings of the relationship between the departments but they had to laugh at the folly and the departure from the norm.
Personally, I'm glad someone was having fun! "LIKE" to the boys (and girls) from Mill Plains.

  21. FF398 liked a post in a topic by ny10570 in Questioning for infectious diseases as part of medical history.
Why does it matter aside from maybe helping figure out what is wrong with the patient? Forget about how its just wrong to treat someone differently based upon a medical condition, what if they don't know they're carrying some disease. Everyone gets treated the same unless I suspect an infection requiring droplet precautions.
Moderator note: This was the very last post made by Lenny, before he left us for keeps. RIP.

I've worked the same unit as Lenny for the last year. We were partners for a while, and then mutual partners after I changed tours. I only recently joined this board because of him. I've worked in EMS in various places for the past 7 years and I can say without a doubt that Lenny was one of the finest people I've ever had the pleasure of working with. He was a consummate professional, an amazing person and one of my best friends. It hasn't yet sunk in that he is really gone forever. It pains me to think about the life that was cut short, and the amazing career that should have been.
