Numerous L/S/O's w/master streams in operation. Ladder Companies opening up. Numerous victims rescued. Command requested 24 additional Ambulances to the scene for 30 victims to be transported to local hospitals. All hands working.
The above incident occured yesterday in Hempstead L.I.. The depts. did a great job and everyone was very lucky to have no fatalities.
Identical buildings exist in Westchester from Yonkers to Peekskill along the Hudson, from Pelham Manor to Portchester along the LI Sound and from Mount Vernon North to _______ along the Harlem Line MNRR.
How many depts. can get enough trained personnel on scene fast enough?
How many are competent in fighting a fire in this type of structure?
How long would it take to get 24 additional ambulances?
And how would the performance be if the weather was not perfect and it was at other times/day of the week?
Finally, how do we get there from here?

Nick didn't "bail out": he resigned from the "company" which is actually a social services and benevolent organization. At the time he was told by the village that he could do so. After seeking additional legal opinions, however, the village later rescinded its original opinion and he was told that he would have to rejoin the social services organization to remain an active firefighter, and that is where the dispute took off. Nick has been afforded the opportunity to rejoin the "company" but Nick has refused to do so as it against his principles and he sees the company as a source of much of the hostility directed towards him.
Nick is an outstanding firefighter and has been an incredible asset to the community. He is well known to all of the instructors in our region thanks to his dedication to training and mastering all aspects of firefighting. And yes, he is also very principled and refuses to compromise those principles. While I do not always agree with Nick, I have enormous respect for him. It is a shame that this has transpired and I hope that resolution will take place.
This law cited requiring members of a village fire department to also be members of a non-firematic social services organization calling thmselves a fire company is most unfortunate, and it is archaic. 150 years ago there were legit reasons to force firefighters be members of a company. But in this day and age where you have a municipal fire department and the company is no more than a social services entity (as is the case in Irvington, where the company has ZERO fire or emergency services role), this needs to be changed. I hope that perhaps this situation will prove to be a positive catalyst and that it will push lawmakers to reexamine obsolete and meaningless laws like this one.

FINALLY getting to the OFD parade. I'm currently about 70 images in to my editing with over 300 images shot so it'll be a while yet. But in the meantime, here's a few teasers. None of these images are uploaded to the 'net yet.
Edit: 100 images down, 237 to go!
Edit 6/17: 200 images down 136 to go!

I was platooned to the South Station today. Fortunately, they had a public appearance event scheduled, so I was able to catch some of the trucks before they left.
    Top to bottom:
MICU 87-6, safely hiding from the public,....
Engine 6-2 (along with its twin, Engine 6-1, they are due for replacement later this year with Spartan/Marion pumpers)
    Rescue 6
Utility 6 (lettered Squad 6, but Chester County is now assigning the "Squad" label to rescue-pumpers)

Below are links to the first 5 videos for the parade last night. There's a total of 12 videos but I won't post them all here and I'm not sure how to actually insert the video clips into the thread so they don't show up as links.
    Edit: Ossining won Best Overall

With the new Interceptors just beginning to appear in our area, and the interest they seem to be genearting, we thought we'd share this recent delivery.
Specialty Warning Systems in Danbury CT recently delivered its first new Ford Interceptor Utility to the Wilton CT Police Department. The result of many months of transition planning with the WPD, the new Utility, assigned as the patrol sergeant’s vehicle, is the first of five Interceptors for Wilton, the remaining four being sedans, which are currently underway.
The warning system is all Whelen LED incorporating a Liberty WeCan lightbar, Vertex HideAways in the sides of the headlight housings, four HideAway LEDs in the rear taillights, 400 series and IONs on the Setina pushbumper and a six head Dominator in the rear window.
The center console is a Havis Interceptor specific unit containing dual cup holders, 12V power outlets, flip up armrest, Whelen controller and department radio. It also carries a Panasonic dock with a CF30 Toughbooks laptop and Zebra mobile printer.
As patrol supervisors do not transport prisoners, there is no rear partition or containment system but a custom cargo compartment command cabinet, for scene control, is planned for the near future.
We have enjoyed a long and co-operative working relationship with the Wilton PD, appreciate their confidence in us and look forward to providing their service and new vehicle conversions for many years to come.

  16. FF398 liked a post in a topic by SWS1 in New Hackensack Chief's 2012 Tahoe
Specialty Warning Systems, in Danbury CT, recently delivered a 2012 Tahoe Chief’s vehicle to the New Hackensack Fire District, located in the Dutchess County Town of Wappinger.
The warning system is almost exclusively Whelen including a Freedom lightbar, 700 series lightheads in the lower grille, Mirror Beams on each side mirror, split color M4s on each corner, split color Slimlighters in each rear side cargo window, LAW HideAways in the tailights and split color M4s on the rear cargo door. A linear traffic advisor above the cargo door provides supplemental rear warning as well as standard arrow direction. System control is by way of the CenCom system
The custom cargo compartment command cabinet provides for tool and equipment storage, scene command, turnout gear, SCBA and rear communications.
The center console is a 24” Havis which contains department communications, CenCom control head, storage box, dual cup holders, armrest, map light and scanner.
In addition to the unique two tone paint (which New Hackensack incorporates into all their Chief’s vehicles) the exterior graphics include gold leaf, white reflective and black accent elements.
This is the second Chiefs vehicle we’ve built for the NHFD, the first being an in service 2008 Tahoe. We have enjoyed working with the New Hackensack FD on both of them and look forward to working with them on additional projects in the future
Look for the NHFD video on our You Tube channel in the upcoming weeks.
