This is not a issue in most cases, but as usual one bad apple could spoil the bunch. I think that in the case Santa riding on the fire truck is not the same as why the policies are in effect, they are there to warn against riding these outside positions while doing higher speeds to calls. Which one might ask, why we make a policy to prevent accidents with people riding outside positions instead of teaching how to drive safely instead.
The case with the Santa who almost had his taken off, they was stupidity on the part of the rider not watching or his spotter watching his travel path.
Leave this issue along, it is nothing to do with violations of fire department policies on riding to calls on the outside of the apparatus.

Those that are concerned about this beat to death issue, write the department or district that owns the vehicle. Ranting about it on this site is not going to solve anything.
This issue comes up on this site every so often and gets locked. Time goes by and it comes up again.

Saw the 2nd installment of Chicago Fire last night (gave it a second chance as well). Although 'slightly' better than the pilot, it is still a drama (medic passing drugs to a firefighter, "again" ?? Please give us all a break).
As I said earlier, give me RESCUE 8 or EMERGENCY any day of the week

After watching this weeks episode, i was applauding when Dawson kicked the drugged up guy out the back of the ambulance. How many times have you all wanted to do that?

I received word from my chief up here in St. Lawrence County, and he said that "The NYS Office of Fire Prevention and Control, as part of the Statewide Mutual Aid and Mobilization plan, has asked each county to canvass for available resources for deployment to NYS and Long Island area."
We are looking at sending an Engine down there within the next day or two and hope to be down there to help.

The Ossining Fire Department will be responding to Nassau County with 2331, 2334, Ladder 41 and Engine 99 for a 72 Hour deployment tomorrow morning.

Here is a video of a live burn demonstration of a mock dorm room that the Canton Fire Department put on for St. Lawrence University's Safety Fair Day. Volunteering in a town with 2 Universities, we get a lot of box alarms and students tend to think that when the fire alarm goes off, its not necessarily an emergency and can stay in their buildings. We wanted to show how quick a room and contents fire can occur in a dorm room.
As well as the live burn, we had fogged out a large room and brought students through, showing them what it would be like in our "working" environment. We also taught them how to find a wall and look for a door or window to get out of the smoke filled environment to safety.

I hope it isn't anything like 'Rescue Me'. Essentially I felt that 'Rescue Me' was an embarassment to the fire service. It portrayed the main characters as completely disfunctional, sub par human beings except for those times when they answered an alarm. Otherwise in or away from the station, they were a--holes.
Not a single character I would want a young member to emulate.

EJ Noble Hospital in Gouverneur New York (St. Lawrence County) has been closed until further notice.
