This would have been a perfect use for the mobile communications vehicles if they could be on scene in a reasonable amount of time.

However, I have a simpler idea: As Rockland and Westchester have repeaters (trunked systems), In theory what is heard at 44 control and on the site should be the same quality of broadcast. Why can't a radio of each others trunk system be installed at the two control centers and when you have an operation such as this bridged together? This would permit all units at a scene be connected together thus only 1 radio would have to be monitored and everyone would be on the same channel. Many departments were cross banding their radio systems before the trunk system was established.

It does not appear to be as cut and dry as you think. I was listening to part of the call. It appeared that there were several other factors that mucked up the situation.
    1) In this case it wasn't a fire but a medical emergency. Does the fire officer still retain command?
    2) It could not be determined exactly were the call was (Town or County).
    3) It seems like there was an over dispatch because it was not known were the call was. (I could be wrong on this).
    4) The weather played a role I recall hearing about boat being dispatched and one of the chiefs replied "You realize that boat s a hard bottomed Zodiac, We have 20 knot winds out here. "
Also its difficult to hear a radio on the river with high winds and trying to keep a small craft stable and on course.
They did have a command post set up at Half moon bay and I did hear that one of the chiefs took command form the shore.

It's a shame when landmarks have to close. They are always the few places that you only have to mention the name and people know exactly where you are talking about. We all grew up with places that our fore fathers went to. It almost became a rite of passage to take your kids there. And they will continue the tradition. Sort of passing the torch to the next generation, now another torch may be extinguished.  Well at least we have Walters!

While I do not in any way wish to minimize the loss of life of the innocent victims of another terrorist atrocity, once again the President shows his lack of understanding of the Constitution in his directive to order all flags to be flown at half staff.  A well meaning gesture not grounded in actual law which is very specific as to the persons for whom the flag is to be lowered to half staff.

Over time we have diminished the significance of this honor just as we have the label 'Hero'.

I hope Obama had a nice time at the ballgame today,

As I understand the situation, confirmed by EX-PGH and EX-TCNY employees. TC dissolved as a corporate entity under Chapter 7 bankruptcy and incorporated as Transcendent Transit I & II.  These corporations, in turn, ceased operations on Friday, 2/26/16, less than 36 hours after being formed.

That said, to the best of my knowledge (again, for transparency, I was the ALS Coordinator/QA & Safety Manager for TCML/Philadelphia), ALL TC assets have ceased to operate.  There are no functioning TC/TT divisions in NY, PA or MD.

If I'm wrong, please comment with corrections.  Additionally, please (PLEASE!!) give all the ex-TC employees all the support you can!

Never mind Palliates we have the Scott Shake. You can now get both drill credit and a work out at the same time. It is rumored that in order to facilitate the new Scott Shake, they will be changing the pass alarm from a duel tone to a loud recording of Shake Shake Shake Shake, Shake Shake Shake, Shake your bottle, Shake your bottle by KC and the sunshine band or Alvin and the Chipmunks. The artist has yet to be determined.

How about guys lay off the Cigars/Cigarettes too? Now there's a start! I believe there's some Depts out there that have a "No Smoking Policy" in order to become and stay a FF, like Boston and some other New England Depts.. There's also plenty of guys that wont even mask up for a car fire so can we please stop blaming our Dirty Turnout Equipment for every ailment we get!

Who cares what he was doing. He was distracted and obviously didn't see a huge red fire truck with flashing lights on it Having the rig protecting the scene basically saved the brothers. This is why using the rig to block the scene is key. Rigs are replaceable the brothers aren't

It requires watchful controllers, hard-working emergency teams, and high-tech equipment operating day and night, 24/7. Go behind the scenes at Frankfurt Airport and see firsthand how their on-site firefighters control the flames when disaster hits the runway. Enter the air traffic control tower, where another team that never hits the off switch patrols the skies overhead.

  24. SOUSGT liked a post in a topic by LTNRFD in Empress EMS is the New Provider Of 911 EMS for the City Of New Rochelle
I can't speak for the labor history of Empress. I can only speak from my personal experience in N.R. Abbey Richmond had the New Rochelle contract from when N.R. Hospital stopped ambulance service Jan. 1, 1975 until around 1983-84 when Affiliated Ambulance was awarded the contract with a much lower bid then Abbey. Affiliated was able to do this because they had only a few EMTs and 1-2 paramedics. Once Abbey lost the contract there were more EMTs and Paramedics then Abbey could use so many of us jumped over with the promise of working only in N.R.. When we jumped we lost all our seniority, vacation pay, sick time and went to Affiliated starting pay, which was much lower then Abbey's for both EMTs and Paramedics. Most of us didn't want to leave our comfort zone, many had worked in N.R. for over 5 years. This was also good for the N.R. system. The police and fire knew us, the E.R. staff knew us, we knew N.R. and at that time the Pelham's also.
Affiliated systematically rotated in new EMTs and Paramedics into N.R. and then started to mess with the old timers,(they actually scheduled paramedics to do ambulette runs) to a point 80% of the old timers left Affiliated. It wasn't soon after the old timers left that Affiliated could not meet the contract and N.R. abruptly cancelled it. The City of N.R. then handed the contract to Empress who at the time had their own problems, but was the only remaining ambulance company that able to operate in Westchester. This was the jump start that Empress needed to grow.
Then the system cycled again and again to this point where Empress is the 6th contracted provider in N.R. When I spoke of stability in the EMS, I was also referring to the system itself, not just the employees. Every time a new provider enters the system, everyone has to adapt. However it is easier nowadays to have a smoother transition do to technology. CAD, GPS, cell phones, radios with talk-a-bout channels, etc.
