Ridge fire is now under control. Units were being pulled back so that air support can do their drops. News 12 has some aerial footage of the damage in the Manorville area. Newsday is reporting a total of 917 acres have been burned making it 1 of the 10 largest fires in NYS history. Crews are cautiously optimistic they'll be able to have it under control and out today.

I think it'd be easier to discuss or update on any brush fire that is happening in the area, on this thread instead of on the Shout box...
I know that Ridge is fighting a massive brush fire right now, anyone with additional info feel free to fill us in..

To add to the above, I feel really, really bad about this setback. Just when things were starting to run smoothly and many of the major bugs being worked out, and people were starting to get comfortable with the new forums. So, I begun to tweak and add back some features, and it broke several other things in the process. Once I get ahold of exactly where the problem lies and what it is, things should return to normal pretty quickly.
Please don't let this dampen your view of the new forums. Issue like this with computer software, especially when newly transitioned, happen, and this occurence will be fixed as soon as it can.
I appreciate everyone's patience during this upgrade process.

I went to fix one thing, and broke ten other things.
I am aware of the issues being experienced, and am trying to get them fixed but do not have a timeframe.

Exactly what I was thinking, although that point may be true on some cases, others it's not. My computers run great on the site, not a change in loading time or anything. Your points in this posts are very well said, and I am glad that it's " up to date" instead of an old, out of date, half working site, like some I have seen.
I personally like the new look, it could use some little changes, but all in all I have no complaints.
Good luck in the future with it.

  23. drgripsthrowawaytowel liked a post in a topic by peterose313 in Female Fire Chiefs/Officers: Issue or Non?
After reading an article on how there's a total of 4 female fire chiefs in the state of Connecticut, it got me thinking about how people feel about being in a department (career or volly) with the chief or an officer being a female.
Does this present an issue and cause problems or do you not care what sex the officer/chief is?
Do you feel like you have to watch how you act/what you say when on the job?
Also does anybody know how many female chiefs there are in NY, if any?
No disrespect meant to anyone here, just curious to see people thoughts.

Kinda like asking if you have an issue with female firefighters. The answer is unequivocally not at all. Some of the best firefighters I know are women as have the ones who went on to be chief been some of the best chiefs I have known.
I thought this cartoon was very fitting for our discussion here.
