The Yonkers PD unit is certified as an ambulance and can transport it if staff is available to take care of the specific patient needs (which is true for most ambulances).

Do you really think that the County, in a public forum, is going to address such a question, where they don't have an appropriate answer? (This is EXACTLY WHY people are leaving EMTBravo.net, because they are afraid of the reprocussions that might arise from them making their opinions known on this web site). Thus, your response clearly answers the other topic on this site of "What has happened to this site" !!!

Hi all my name is Felix Hughes Jr, some may know me, some might not. My dad has served the county for 33 years. He is last of the first 6 people to get hired. He has also served as Chief in the Village of Mamaroneck. His life has always been about the fire service and I look forward to seeing everyone that he has touched in some way as they pay tribute to him and his career.

The Feds can do what they want, but the agencies can not violate Article 30 and use the feds as a reason.

I do not know what the rules in CT are. But in NYS it is illegal for a service to operate outside its CON. Unless on mutual aid. We had a case where the US Open was stopped because they had a NYC Based Ambulance covering them, but the DOH said Shut the event down till they could get a service with a CON for Westchester.

Because in selling it, you reduce maintenance costs, insurance costs, replacement costs and the overall burden to the taxpayer. You can free up budgetary monies for other items. The list goes on and on. There just isn't a good reason for departments like the one I mentioned to have the size fleet that they do.
Same goes for many of the westchester fleets. You take a department with a few square mile coverage area who consistently can only put one piece on the road for calls. WHY do they need a fleet with three pumps? Or more? Why is there a county in NY with something like 57 heavy rescues with a smaller population than NYC who has 5?
It goes back to ones motivation and why you do what you do. Are your decisions made with the taxpayer in mind? Or your departments collective ego? Can you do it better with less? Do you need everything on that floor? Do you even use everything on that floor? Could you join forces with a neighbor and share services?

  15. WCFCX613 liked a post in a topic by x635 in An In-Depth Look - Stamford's New Engine 8
This thread is about Stamford Fire-Rescue's new Engine 8, a 2014 KME with a 1500 GPM pump, a 1,000 gallon tank, and 30 gallon foam tank. They operate out of a temporary station next to Stamford EMS Station 4 on Vine Rd near High Ridge Road. It covers the northern part of the city, specifically the High Ridge and Turn Of River sections. They cover urban, suburban, and rural sections of the city In addition, they cover the Merritt Parkway. A large part of their district is unhydranted. The company, Engine 8, was put into service in July of 2008 to cover the Turn Of River Volunteer fire department district. It is always staffed by 1 Officer, One Firefighter/Apparatus Operator, and one Firefighter. When staffing levels allow, a fourth crew member is also added. All members are part of IAFF Local 786.The company nick name is "Ridge Runners - 8 Ball Express"
Stamford Fire-Rescue's entire district is diverse, as they cover multiple high rises, commercial, industrial, and transit infrastructure, including a major interstate, I-95, the Merritt Parkway, a large Metro-North Commuter Railroad maintenance yard. There are large hospitals, office buildings, and large scale residential developments. They also cover a large suburban section, as well as some very rural area with very large and valuable real estate and huge areas of brush with limited access.
The career firefighters of Local 786 staff 9 Engine companies, 3 truck companies, 1 heavy rescue company, and 1 shift commander. A Fire Lieutenant also is a coordinator in the city's consolidated 911 communications center. This adds up to a minimum of 52 firefighters a shift. A Hazmat company and Hazmat support vehicles are cross staffed.
The KME Severe-Service Predator type chassis was specified and chosen for the terrain, roads, and structures it covers.
I'd really like to thank Captain Matt Palmer, one of my favorite fire captains, for taking the time to give me a complete in depth tour of the new KME. I do want to apologize, as the photos didn't turn out as nice as I wanted them to, but hope everyone still enjoys them and can see all the neat specs.
For comparison to the new Engine 8, here's the FORMER Engine 8, a 2005 HME.

FDNY has a dewatering unit assigned to Special Operations command (SOC). In the past it was a large rescue style box unit that had a hydraulic-powered large capacity pump (Stanley system), in addition to numerous sized gas powered "trash pumps". The unit would be driven to the scene of an incident by the SOC firefighter, and an engine company would meet him at the scene to provide hose and manpower. Many engine companies have trash pumps, especially in the shoreline and "flood prone areas". There is also a large capacity hydraulic pump(s) on a roll-off kept at SOC that has a several thousand GPM capacity. This was used to pump out the PATH train tubes between NJ and lower Manhattan.
This was some of the inventory in FDNY in the past. Maybe the active FDNY brothers can add to this?

This evening, while on the way back from a personal errand with a friend, we stopped for fuel off a local exit in Boonton, NJ. We noticed a couple police cars whiz by us, and were able to get a few shots of the MVA they were responding to.
The smaller SUV "t-boned" the Suburban at the back drivers side wheel, as you can see that wheel and axle were both snapped. I don't know the specifics beyond that, as the positioning of the cars and where they came to rest were confusing and PD was still attempting to put the stories together. This accident could have been a LOT worse, but it looks like the safety systems in the cars did their jobs. Both were late model Chevrolet SUV's, and their were only minor injuries. The Suburban had children in car seats that were shaken up but not injured.
