If you are a member of L273 you should know the answer to that. If you are not a member then this is not the forum to explain our contractual work schedule.

  7. lad12derff liked a post in a topic by LTNRFD in New Rochelle reduces minimum staffing for Fire Department, cites finances
When I was appointed to the New Rochelle Fire Department March 3, 1986 I was happier then a kid in a candy shop. Myself and the other 8 probies were quickly taken under the wings of the 'senior' guys and they were happy to share with us their years of knowledge and wisdom. We were in awe as to what they knew and what their experiences were. During these times of mentoring, many of the senior guys would always say, "just remember you are nothing but a number to the City of New Rochelle". For years I believed that if you gave your all to the job, the City would always do the right thing. Was I wrong !!!!!! As I got older on the job and more experienced it was clear that the City of New Rochelle could care less of the firefighters as individuals.
The City expected their employees to follow the rules and do what we were hired to do and what we swore to uphold. If we didn't we would face the consequences. I have found out that it is a one way street and do as I say not as I do with the City. The City fathers have been sworn to up hold the City charter and provide for it's residences. It amazes me how much money they waste trying to save a dollar. But the money doesn't go to waste it goes to people who are contracted to do a job and they don't do the job, but still gets thousands of dollars while they only save the tax payers hundreds of dollars. All while not following the law. When the City is confronted with their failure to follow the law the response from the City is 'if you don't like it then sue us' . This too is a waste of tax dollars.
Sometimes I think the elected officials are not here for the good of the citizens that elected them to local office, but they are here only as a stepping stone to their own political aspiration.

Sorry Brother, we remembered them in October at our annual memorial service. This really sucks for our job and those members involved. When are the people going to get it!!!! It does not cost that much for police and fire protection. The school budget is 64%, the county budget is 18% and the city budget is 18%. Your taxes do not go to public saftey as much as they go to the schools. please stop lumping us into the same category. This is BS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Better then Rural Metro, whosever idea that was?
Rye Brook FD and PD don't need to exist. Port Chester FD, EMS, and PD can and do cover this area.

Just a little off topic here but I ended up in Newburgh Sunday morning after getting bad directions to my sons soccer game in New Windsor and ended up at the fire house @ Broadway and 217?. Stopped to ask the Brothers for some directions and they were closed. Was this house shut down? I do remember protesting with the 5th district last winter for our brothers and thought they had "won the battle". Whats the story up there? Coulda used that company that night!!!!!

It's got alot to do with it bro., you should know that. You can have all the fancy equipment, training and bresnan distributors you want on a rig but if the manpower isn't there to deploy it and use it that ISO rating means nothing. Does the ISO take into account how many personnel show up to a Job at 3am without relying on m/a? The citizens of the Town of Mamaroneck might really enjoy their new reduction in Insurance premiums but lets see how they feel when their house or business burns to the ground cause a skeleton crew showed up on the 1st due apparatus within the 1st three minutes. This is by no means a diss to the TMFD, they got alot of great guys and do the best they can with what they got, but I think just too much emphasis is placed on ISO ratings. How many of the ISO employees have ever even fought a Job. I could care less if my Dept. has more then its full complement of halligans and nozzles or a great water supply within its district, if there's a delay in utilizing these resources you can take that ISO rating and stick it!

Guys - just remember, that one of the main reasons so many of the local fire photogs stopped posting pics here is for posts like these. Images capture one MILLISECOND in time at an incident that is typically very busy. What you very well may be seeing is a guy putting his helmet down to take safety glasses out of the crown (common place to put them), then popping it right back on...could have been stung by a bee...anythinG!
It is not always perfect, textbook operations on a fire scene, you do what needs to be done to save lives and property. If you have a problem with something in a picture, make a note of it, and make sure YOUR guys don't do it...use it as a learning experience.
It is NOT our place to second guess the members actions in public, well, unless of course you work for Firefighter Close Calls..
I am glad the Chief posted above - clears up some questions. And let me clarify, I was not MMQ'ing the FAST decision, I was adding MY opinion. As a fireman who routinely operates without the added benefit of a deidcated FASTeam, it is something I feel is very important. Someday I hope to work to fix that on our end....
Good to see RM in action to boot!

We need legitamate EMS not BS calls. A certain city in Westchester use to do 1500 runs a year with over 200 firefighters and now does 9000 with 155 firefighters. I would say that city fire dept is holding up to their end of the productivity agreement but not the city. I don't think you will find one person on this board, including myself, who would not be willing to do any and all real EMS calls. It is the general illness calls, the runny nose calls, the twisted ankle calls that happened at 4:00 in the afternoon and they need a ride to the hospital at 2:00 am calls. We all know the calls I am talking about. I have been around a little while.

    Well, a few things.
I might suggest that your grammar is more ignorant then my opinion, but I’m above that, so I won’t. 
And while discussing ignorance, let's take a look at your "facts".
Every single one of your assertions is wrong. I believe that is ignorant. Your contention that all public employee unions are entitled to all the benefits you list is just absurd. Please let us know the source where you are drawing your "facts" from.
  21. lad12derff liked a post in a topic by FD828 in Oklahoma Votes To Eliminate Collective Bargaining Rights For Some Public Service Employees
Dude, wake up. They are taking away rights that these unions fought for. It is anti-American what those states have done. It is not the unions that have put the municipalities in the spot they are in. The republicans are pitting the working class against each other. (It's not fair that the unions have this and the rest of the workers don't. Vote republican and we will get rid of the big bad unions) Do you really think that the non-union citizens will see any difference in their taxes? You are kidding yourself if you think the residents will get a tax break if they strip the unions of their collective bargaining rights. The unions are not to blame. Nor are they unwilling to make concessions. But don't sit there and say that we have to cut this and that and watch those cutting get raises and if you think it hasn't happened you are insane. They are destroying what so many have worked for. It is not right.
Your comment of making sure unions are kept in line... what exactly do you mean? The unions have to negotiate every single thing in their contracts with... yup the municipality! So don't sit there and say it is the unions fault, the contracts have to be agreed to by both sides. The unions have not strong armed anyone. They have fairly negotiated their contracts. So you are saying well done to Oklahoma because you think this will be what is best for the union members themselves but not the union itself? So basically the cities can now say you will get this for pay and this for vacation and this for medical and if you don't like it you can go work elsewhere. So how is this better for the union member???

I would definitely think that staffing is the reason why the Pelham stick was not raised. The fact that 2 guys arrive ( I think that's the # )at a job makes you decide your priorities. #1 forcible entry for the engine company, #2 search of the fire floor for victims and locate the fire for the engine company, #3 search above the fire for victims and vent, and #4 open up. Does not leave a lot of time for the LCC to stick the house. In New Rochelle our assignments are as follows for PD's and multi dwelling ( non high rise ) First due truck, officer and jump seat ff force entry search fire floor, first due chauffeur does a walk around looking for things the IC may need to know ( fire location from outside and victims hanging out windows or who have already jumped ) Second due truck, officer and jump seat ff go to the floor above and search while the second due chauffeur hooks up with the first due chauffeur and ladders the building with ground ladders or the sticks. Third due if needed picks up the slack, opening up, more ground ladders, secondary searches. Pelham is up against it as soon as the bells go off and truly have to "do more with less".
