The only one whining about getting wet is the chief who ordered her subordinates to carry her so she did not get wet.

There is also a picture of Manhattan's division commander being carried on a stair chair out side a flooded EMS station because she did not want to get wet . I have seen the picture but can no post it because it is not mine.

Paramedics union demands FDNY’s EMS chief resign over Sandy fiasco

City medics are demanding the resignation of EMS boss Abdo Nahmod, claiming he mismanaged the response to Superstorm Sandy.
First responders say medical care devolved into chaos as the hurricane’s floodwaters swamped EMS stations and paralyzed ambulances — sometimes stranding medics on their roofs — all because the FDNY failed to follow its own hurricane plan.
The two unions representing EMTs/paramedics and EMS officers last week voted “no confidence” in Chief Nahmod and called for his immediate ouster, according to copies of the resolution found on the FDNY/EMS Rant Web site and the Facebook page of a Local 2507 executive.

The union did not return Hostess phone calls for over a month. That in itself says alot about the union. Like usual the only people who make out in these situations is the management / stock holders and the upper level union reps who jobs will not be lost

It does not matter what profession it is. If the city provided you with the helmet or if they gavr you a allowance to.buy the helmet. It still belongs to the city. If they want to charge you to keep the city.owned equipment then it is their right to do so. If the money goes towards the city's budget that is even better. It was mentioned that the $100 goes to the fdny foundation which is a nonprofit organization that benefits you and your job. Some woild think you would be proud tl support a organization that supports your livelihood and safety.

It has no value. When you turn in ANY gear at the quartermaster, it goes from your hands to the clerks hands and into the garbage. How can you sell something that, apparently, has no value.
Up until now, used helmets ended up at The Rock. They are used in the flash-over simulator, members do not wear their own helmets in there. However, if the helmet is no longer fit for use in the field, surely it can't be fit to be used in that simulator. Again, it has not value.

The fact that some many firefighters are in a uproar that they have to pay the city in order to keep the city owned helmet proves that it has a monetary value.

The helmet belongs to the city not the member. I agree with the city. If you want to keep the city owned helmet then you should pay for it.

How about charge the people who use mass transit the actual cost of a fair. Instead every car owner in the nyc region is subsidizing the mta.

Funny how the company will let the workers back in when there are nasty weather predictions but last week they were telling them that they were losing their benefits next week once they've been out of work for one month.
Where has the Governor been for the past month?
Horrible situation for the displaced workers and customers waiting for services.
Con ed offered to extend the old contract while they negoiated with the union. The union declined the extension and locked themselves out. But hey dont let the facts get in the way.

Fdny paramedic and board member ny10570 has been missing since 7/19/12 . He was last seen hiking in Coloarado. So far no luck with the ground search. The chopper is down due to weather. Please keep Lenny in your prayers.

The citizens of city island are freaking out because they might lose a ladder company. Yet there is not one ambulance assigned to city island. The closest als and bls come from pelham bay or coop city depending on who is available. If they are ok with ems coming from a distance then they should be ok with the ladder company coming from a distance. After all ems does double the calls then fire does and the majority of fire calls are ems runs.

Dont forget government workers are part of the self serving government.

You are jealpus that the esu cops got the media attention and not the fdny. If the fdny made the grabs they would have been in the papers and put in for a citation. The cops do get media attention for inaction. http://newyork.cbslocal.com/2010/08/31/brooklyn-cop-suspended-after-failing-to-perform-cpr/

Wah wah wah esu made the grabs and got their picture in the paper instead of us (fdny). I wonder what you would have said if esu stood by and the occupants died.

My definition of a "problem" employee is a employee who is constantly late, calls in sick constantly with out documentation, constantly goes home sick or family emergency so they can go to parties, does not restock the ambulance, and is disrespectful to fellow employees, patients and family / bystanders.

The one down side of a union is it makes it harder for the company to fire the "problem" employee. On the flip side it creates a disciplinary process that has to be followed to protect all employees.

They have a history of squandering money.
