With respect.. i'll spell his name right
Great work FF Richard Rodriguez. Even though it may effect the person, I like hearing stories like these, where a life is saved within minutes. If he hadnt been there who knows what could of happened.

Outstanding job FF Rodriguez! Talk about being at the right place at the right time. Also, hats off to the responding YFD members who assisted, as well as EMS. Nice work all around.
Just a question, as it was hard to understand in the article. Is Yonkers looking to stop sending YFD on medical calls or are they looking to stop training members as CFRs/EMTs?
Either way would be a bad move in my opinion.

Let's take a step back and look at what science has to say...The father's actions are justifably correct. Primal instinct (don't forget that we humans are still animals) is to protect your home and family no matter the circumstance. A close relative of ours, the gorilla, is even deadlier than we are. Then again, the gorilla has no laws to abide by.
I'm not saying this particular father was right, but I'm not going to say he was wrong. So now I'm going to ask what your instinct would be (DO NOT answer this question publicly. Please keep this in your own head.) What would you do with the molestor? Let him go? Beat him up a little? Kick the living snot out of him? Shove a double barrel shotgun down his throat and pull the trigger? Just because the human mind is much more advanced and capable of several dimentions of thought doesn't mean that someone will pause long enough to choose the action that society has deemed acceptable. Again, we are animals, and what ever you decide to do is the right thing to do at the moment. This case isn't pre-meditated murder, nor is it really any type of murder case. The father simply secured his role as the alpha male and protected his home and family. If you can't grasp this concept, highly I suggest watching the History Channel and Discovery Channel.

    I. Love. Texas.
If this happened in New England (New Hampshire probably notwithstanding) the father would have been charged with Capital Felony Murder, Ben and Jerry's would have come out with a new flavor of ice cream to benefit the family of the scumbag rapist and Al Sharpton would be claiming it was a racist atrocity perpetrated against an innocent, defenseless minority.
In Texas, the dirtbag gets dead, the father gets to continue taking care of his family and trying to piece together the lost innocence of his child with the support of a caring community that takes care of its own.

He saved his daughter and tried to save the piece of garbage who was molesting her and could of possibly killed her. His actions were justified and hopefully won't see any furthur legal implications. And I agree if this was NY...

What is your idea of justice, if any?
I would have to agree with you about the guy living with killing someone though. He obviously didn't want to kill the man, but ended up doing so.

I personally agree with no charges against the father. It's his own kid. He shouldn't of beat him up so bad, he probably wasnt trying to, but it is what it is. If he had just beat him up and left him there to die, maybe a few charges against him, but it sounds like he was worried about the guy and didnt really mean it. so..

MTA tried this in NYC. When reminded the real cost of PD, Fire, and EMS responses they decided it was worth the free tolls.

Somebody's job justification is all it is "look at how much paperwork this person does, we can't let this person go"
Maybe some lame brain thinks it will stop terrorist from blowing thru the tolls.
Folks we must all, every fire and EMS service in the state of NY write to the powers to be to abolish this STUPID law. Regardless if you cover the T-Way or not. How would you like to be called to a MCI mutual aid and have to stop & pay? What if you have no money on you? Unit XXX to command, sorry we can't get on the highway because we don't have money for the tolls.
    Another article:

Another thought what's the charge for getting on and off at the same interchange? Emergency vehicles are allowed to make U-Turns last I checked or do they have to pay the full rate of the ticket? What if you got on at a toll plaza and got off at a crash gate? or vice versa?

Yah right. Hope this guy doesn't have a medical on the highway and the ambulance is stuck at the toll because it's rush hour. MORON!

I guess gone are the days when dispatch would call the bridge and have them pull a lane. You would get told "Lane 9 Red Flashing Lane Light clear to go". Sounds like you need to play an audio track to Convoy next time you blast the tolls.

Hmmm so when an ambulance is code 3(or whatever code it is for you) to a hospital with a pt in the back having a heart attack with cpr in progress, you have to stop, find the change, wait for the gate, and then go and hope people move out of the way quickly... Sounds a bit right, dont ya think?
The way money is made these days...

John, my wife and I went skydiving there a few years ago for my birthday. When anyone says they've went or they are going, it's usually to SkyDive The Ranch.
You can't beat the thrill and feeling of it. Unfortunately, like with anything else, accidents happen.
RIP to the victims. My heart goes out to their family, friends, other instructors and anyone who witnessed this.

I had the opportunity in visiting the Normandy beaches a few years ago. Unfortunately the area has turned into a tourist area and is complete with gift shops, hotels and golf courses. There are a few small museums and a lot of WW II pieces scattered around. They did leave many of the bluffs and the American Cemetery alone. I have to say that the American Cemetery is a magnificent monument to all those who died. Someone (not sure who maintains it) does a wonderful of maintaining the site. And this is a fitting tribute to those who are buried there. When you are in the cemetery, the amount of loss of life hits home. You really can’t put the day into perspective until you see all those graves, row after row after row. It is truly a shame that so many people had to die so we can sit behind a computer and complain in English about someone or thing without fear of the secret police taping you on the shoulder. Each Memorial Day we have parades and services for those spilled their blood to give us these freedoms, but we should say a short prayer of thanks today for those who died in such large numbers for our freedom.

  23. Westfield12 liked a post in a topic by FFPCogs in FDNY Commish Orders Aviation VFD to Cease Operating
Let me begin by stating that I know very little about the Aviation VFD and I will have to take the word of those on here who do in regards to their issues. That said and sorry to divert too far away from the topic at hand, but this particular post caught my attention and I would like to respond to it.
I must respectfully disagree with the assesment that training in the volunteer sector is not "sufficient". I know of many VFDs that have excellent training programs, run by experienced, knowledgeable and dedicated training officers and members that produce superb firefighters...and this I know because I am one of those training officers. Blanket statements rarely if ever tell the whole story, in fact the usually do more harm than good. Are there VFDs that provide substandard training? Yes of course there are, and guess what there are career departments guilty of the same offense...and if anyone actually believes volunteers have a monopoly on pencil whipping training reports, who is it that's being naive? So while it may be true in many States that career FFs are required to meet standards which are often more stringent than their volunteer counterparts, (which indeed does usually lead to better trained, but not necessarily more experienced FFs), it does not by any means mean that volunteers are, as a rule, un or insufficiently trained.
Another point on which I hold a different view is that of the place of State training. For me I think State training should supplement in house training, not the other way around. Yes all FFs should go and fill their heads with all the requisite knowledge certification classes offer, but once done it should become the responsibility of the FD and the members themselves to train regularly in house to meet the needs of their community...and that just can't be accomplished at a State level. No State academy or curriculum can tailor training for each jurisdiction, so until such time as there are universal SOP/Gs and such, the bulk of training must happen in house and be built around how your FD operates. State classes taught by certified instructors is a wonderful and necessary tool in producing great FFs, but IMO it is just that a tool, not a crutch or substitute for real world department based training.
