I think STAT213 hit the nail on the head! The concepts coming out of Europe for safer designs seem like an improvement but we as an industry are slow to adopt them. I rarely see forward facing/swivel sweets on new trucks coming out etc that you posted from manufacturers on the web. The design of the ambulance seems stuck on tradition, a dangerous one.

You're not safe in any ambulance. No manufacturer does adequate testing. Horton won't release their crash test data. The way to ensure safety is to insist on specs that increase occupant safety i.e. restraints, equipment securing and design features.
Most importantly, you need to train your drivers. Do background driving checks on them. Don't let them speed. Speed and these vehicles are a match made for disaster. Train them to drive safe and slow.

How did/do these trucks work out for FDNY with the four door cab? Any idea on the change in Chassis from Dodge to Ford and four door cab to extended cab? Thanks.

Hello everyone, thought I'd share some more images from Melbourne on a recent buffing trip. We've even got an American vehicle being trialled! Enjoy.

I don't know the specifics of this truck but Dartmouth, MA (south coast near/New Bedford) has/had a similar type ladder. I haven't see too many in MA.

Boston had a fire today in the Roslindale section of the city. The fire was in the 3rd floor of a 6 family. The street was very narrow making access for the ladder companies interesting. One of the occupants of the house walked by me and her daughter was asking what she was going to do for toys now! Multiple companies on scene for 2 hours along with BPD and BEMS.

I had the opportunity to head over to Navy Week Boston this afternoon to check out the ships that were available to be boarded. Very impressive collection of ships. I was only able to get on the USS Gravely, an Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyer. The ship was pretty amazing. The crew was great and took the time to show you the ship and talk about their different roles on board. All photos except for the remote gun system and missile launch pad are from the Gravely. The German vessel had a beer garden on the helipad. The ship was closed when I was there so I wasn't sure if it was for visitors or sailors only. Have a Happy and Safe 4th of July!

I didn't really get the point of this article from the Herald. I was going to say 120 hours but the post above has it correct. I won't characterize getting your certification in MA as this easy. I worked out of state for five years and was unable become certified at the level I was at in another state because of MA regulations and couldn't go down a provider level. I let my certs go and a few years later took my EMT-B in MA to become certified again. I wonder if this article is referring to the EMS boot camps that have sprung up down here. I know they claim to get you out the door in a very short period. The program I took my EMT-B was very strict and told me it was from the state that you couldn't miss any classes and if you did you had to make it up but it had to be the exact same class. Thanks to the original poster for finding this!
