I'll grant her the right to hold the sign, go for it. But, all I ask is this. That she never call on the police for assistance. No matter what. She's on her own. You can't have it both ways. Like 10570 said, she was not protesting police brutality or something of that magnitude. She's no Gandhi or Martin Luther King, with some lofty calling. They were simply performing a valid, public safety function. So, all I ask is she never call the police, never complain about their response time, and above all else, NEVER call and complain that people are speeding in her neighborhood, or in her case, through her trailer-park.

Whether or not she has a license or has a beef against PD or any other reason... this woman was holding a sign! Too bad if PD doesn't like it. Its a sign. Sorry guys, get up and move. Its her right to hold that sign and she should be commended for the guts to hold that sign. Someone needs to remind the government that the people have real rights, like free speech which includes holding up simple signs, especially if its a sign that annoys the police. Its just how it works. The same First Amendment right that Neo-Nazis have, or the people who hold up those nasty signs at military funerals. "I may not agree with what you have to say, but I will defend to the death, your right to say it" -Voltaire... Especially what anyone has to say about government, the state, or the police. It's one of those rules of how democracy can survive

Once again Cap is spot on, its easy to put a sticker on your helmet that says "Never Forget," its quite another to actually remember.

I remeber we were sitting in the Fire House Kitchen when the news of the fire broke and live fotage was interupting whatever was on. We all said: "They do not realize that they are operating at a bowstring truss". We could see it on the news 10-15 minutes before the collapse.
I hate to say it but, the majority of the fire service has already forgotten this or never learned the leason of this fire (and others).
If we allow our firefighters to respond to and enter structures without understanding the hazards of different construction, we have forgotten.
If we fail to utilize proper communications (including seperate fireground and dispatch) systems, we have forgotten.
If we fail to have enough firefighters during the early stages of a fire and enough in reserve (FAST & Stagging), we have forgotten.
If we fail to regularly inspect (and preplan) structures and allow illegal and dangerious practices to continue, we have forgotten.
When span of control is exceded and ICS not utilized, IC get overloaded and can not protect the members, we have forgotten.

The above conditions still occur in many departments and we will again have another incident that we "Will Never Forget".
Does your minimum training include; building construction for the fire service?
Does your dept. know its district and the hazards in it? If you do not do inspections/preplans, than the answer is NO.
Do you have proper communications (every LODD report says most do not)?
Do you have enough staff, early enough and trained properly?
Do you have properly trained staff, with the resources to command and properly run a firefight.
I keep fighting this fight, because I do remember.

Basicly. Triboro is part of Taylor, not the other way around. Taylor protects the community, and Triboro ensures labor to continue to provide the service (protect the community) while not being taken advantage of by managment.

Well, imagine the headline, "Reckless Ambulance Driver Speeds Through Tolls, Hits and Kills DOT Worker/Toll Collector."
  12. fireboyny liked a post in a topic by INIT915 in Emergency Responders to Pay Thruway Tolls
    This thread is fantastic.
First, everyone overreacts over what now appears to be a miscommunication.
Then, the proposed solutions basically include harassing the toll-takers, because let's be real, we all know they are the ones making the policies. (Let's not do something drastic like make legitimate contact with the powers that be and explain why this is a bad policy.)
Then if that doesn't work, we advocate just blowing through the toll plazas. No big deal there, so a DOT worker or two gets blasted. No harm, no foul. Or maybe just destroy some DOT equipment.
Just brilliant. Let's keep these good ideas coming!

From a friend that spoke to thruway today,
"I just spoke to the Thruway and this is what they told me. In practicality, when a fire department or ambulance service is responding to an emergency, SOP is to notify the Thruway as you know. When the Thruway is notified, they will waive the toll as you have stated. This letter that was given by the Thruway, as has been misinterpreted throughout the media and fire departments, is saying if in the rare case that there is an issue (like if EZ Pass has a malfunction), there is now a procedure where fire departments and ambulance services can follow to get reimbursed. THERE IS NO CHARGE and much appreciated if you spread that"
