Located in northeastern Westchester County, the Somers Fire Department has taken delivery of their newest Chief's vehicle, a 2011 Chevrolet Suburban.

Serving as both a first response vehicle and incident command post, 2443 incorporates an all LED Whelen lighting system that includes a Freedom FX lightbar, 700 series and LINZ6 series Super LEDs behind the grille, M4 LEDs on each outer corner and on the rear cargo door and 4 LAW HideAway LEDs in the rear taillights. Strip Lite and LINZ6 LEDs were added in the rear cargo compartment to provide additional rear facing warning when the cargo door is raised. All six are door activated and can be temporarily disabled by way of an automatically resetting sixty second timer. A roof mounted Dominator Traffic Advisor provides direction for oncoming vehicles. A CenCom control system and Sound Off headlight flasher complete the warning system.

A 24" Havis console contains the department and county trunk radios, Uniden scanner, cup holders, power outlets, side mount armrest, CenCom control head and storage box. The computer mount is a heavy duty Havis system which includes a multi position tilt/swivel arm and docking station for a Panasonic CF19 laptop using a roof mounted Antenna Plus Cellular/PCS/GPS antenna. An airbag option switch was installed to allow for selective deactivation of the passenger front airbag.

The exterior graphics package incorporates gold leaf and reflective elements, the department's elephant logo on each front door and a diamond grade red and white safety chevron spanning the entire rear cargo door. Par 36 Super LED floodlights were installed under the rear of the truck and configured to operate with the OEM reverse lights to aid in backing the vehicle at night.

The staff and crew at Specialty Warning Systems extends it's thanks to the Somers FD for their confidence in us to provide their latest Chief's Suburban, the second vehicle upfitted by SWS for the Somers FD this year. (U-5 was completed and delivered this past June). We look forward to working with them on additional projects in the future.
Watch for the SFD 2443 video in our YouTube library in the near future.

Very well said, and to add to the last part, it's good to know who surrounds you and if you know the chief maybe they'll allow you to stay just because they know they can trust you with them or they know you know where your boundaries are when at a scene. I've seen some people follow the firefighters to the door of a burning building, or follow EMS as they move the victim to the ambulance/helicopter, personally, I'd never get THAT close. For many reasons, including the victims privacy, for legal rights, etc. If I would like to photograph a scene, I tend to get the outside stuff.( rigs, personell, flames, helicopters, etc, etc) I think we should all just remember where the boundaries are, and what the photos will be used for.

We did want a Seagrave but we have been pleased with the Spartan/Crimson. The quality is good, they seem to be one of the few that build a custom truck. Any of our issues have not been with Crimson or Hendrickson, I will leave it at that. The guys at Hendrickson have been giving us good service and are good to work with, everyone should come down and take a look at the truck during the wet down in May.

There has to be more to the story, when I was on scene there had to be at least 5 other people taking photos and videos.
I will also add that when I was chief we had a bad fatal accident and when I got on scene there was a gentleman taking photos (there were no photos of the victim only the scene. The State Troopers did confiscate his memory card to look through for evidence, but I was told by them that they could only make a copy and were going to give it back.
I think a lot of the negative feedback you have been getting comes from the fear of you recording or taking a photo of a department doing something wrong and then posting it on here or youtub or somewhere else. Nobody likes bad press! When you take photos you need to use discretion in what you post and I would also recommend you give a copy of the photos to the chief or someone in the department (Not try and sell it to them). That way they can see what you have and are not left wondering if they are going to see something pop up on a forum somewhere.
I tend to only take photos of my own department unless we go mutual-Aid somewhere or I’m requested to take photos, and those photos are used for training purposes and to post on our department website. I also have a personal website with additional pictures that don’t make it onto the dept website and they are accessible to all the members of my department for free because I don’t believe in taking a photo of someone and charging them for it.
The point is don’t act like you are hiding anything or doing anything wrong and people will generally leave you alone. Don’t go where you are not supposed to go, don’t get in the way and don’t cause a scene if you are asked to leave, just apologize and go. It also might be a good idea to go around and introduce yourself to the chiefs of the departments who’s scenes you plan on going to photograph, this way you can get permission in advance or they can politely ask you not to, and they will know who you are when they see you on the scene.
    Just my thoughts

We'll never know who these clowns heard commenting on the video are, but that doesn't really matter, they're just ignorant. Remove the audio and watch the action and see if there is anything worthwhile to learn from viewing that, by itself. Think about is there anything you would do, or do differently, if this was your call.
What IS important to remember, as already pointed out, is the fact that "cameras are everywhere" and whatever you do (or don't do) in public may be recorded on video and wind up out there on the Web for everyone to see.

It's people like those commentators that makes you want to hunt them down and smack the with the stupid stick. Instead of all the criticism they should join a fire department and find out why it takes the time to do the things "that take so long"
5 minutes for an engine to get there is good. I don't know how far they had to travel to get there or what day of the week or time of day but 5 minutes is very acceptable.
Very unfortunate that they had 1 firefighter to be in gear to do the job but he did the job and I was glad to see him "on air".

Tanker 6 has 600 feet of LDH
Engine 115 has approx. 1300 feet LDH
Engine 116 has approx. 1400 feet LDH
Engine 117 has approx. 1400 feet LDH
Katonah has put quite a bit of thought into this, yes we have alot of training to do yes we have alot to learn, if the truck is not ordered it will be ordered, soon.
I did not pay attention if they said it was ordered as I am on the truck commitee but Katonah and Somers Commisioners meetings are the same night so I can not be at both.
Smeal 75 foot, 400 gallons water 1000 feet 5" LDH, Rear Mount Ladder , Crosslays, ground ladders. etc.
Ladder would fit in building as is know,
We noticed that the floor drains were starting to break up, upon further investigation found out the orginal floor, ( not addition floor was collapsing and had voids under it, also need to add a oil seperator as per DEC, which was not needed when addition was put on building.
in my opinion if they were ever to consolidate Town of Bedford into one FD we would still need both a Tower and a straight stick, get rid of some pumpers sure but I am not the one to do any of that in Bedford. I do think they will complimant each other nicely in town. Also we will not be getting rid of 117 the engine that is do to be replaced until further on down the road and we configure response, training etc.
