The only ones who thought that were the ones with blinders on. We were very aware of what Lynn Tilton was up to. And we knew it was coming.

CFR is practical in many situations, such as for police officers & firefighters. Correct me if I am wrong, but doesn't FDNY have CFRs on the apparatus that run to medical calls?

    Good points, Bill.

The other thing I just thought of....this looks like they may have to demolish the Taylor Care Pavilion, which is mainly WMC administrative offices, no inpatient care other then a small rehab wing with only a few beds, and possibly reconfigure Behavioral Health. Unless that building can sit in-between the two or be integrated, which from the sketch above doesn't look possible.

They've been talking about demolishing Ruth Taylor for years so I bet that's a part of it.

Where's the money coming for this?  Is it tax money - yet again - for the public benefit corporation?

Have they paid back the millions of tax dollars that the County gave them during their bailouts over the years?

I know that this is a played out/sore subject with many on EMTBravo.net, but I will again say, if the "Powers to Be" (Politicians) would all get together, abolish the "Home Rule" permanently, and develop and implement a 100% County Run EMS and Fire Operation, with every county tax payer being held responsible for the costs of running such operation, you would stop such comments, as "The City of Mount Vernon doesn't even have enough firefighters to do their primary job of fighting fires". If you take the LOCAL BULL-DINKY POLITICS (both Governmental and Unions) out of the equation and put it in the hands of a Group of EMS and Fire Professionals throughout the county (such as say 5 to 7 "Leaders" coming out of say Yonkers, New Rochelle, White Plains, Mount Vernon, Eastchester, and possibly 1 or 2 Northern Westchester County Towns/Villages) to oversee the day to day operation of such a "Consolidated County Run EMS/Fire Service" you would never have to worry about Private Companies going bankrupt.

When will people wake up and say "This is Enough" ?????
  11. trauma74 liked a post in a topic by somebuffyguy in NYS EMT vs. CFR
According to the state DOH website CFR classes are 48-60 hours, EMT is 150-190. I'd say "waste of time" is pretty subjective. It really depends on what this person intends to do with it.

As far as the requirements for employees to have a class E Drivers License. I do not understand this requirement. A class E license is a chauffeur's license, which is needed to operate a taxi or ambulette. I highly doubt that any of the companies will pay for the upgrade to a class E license. When I was employee of Empress back in the late 90s, I was told that I needed to get a class E license. I did get it and I had to pay for it myself. I can see some companies telling their employees that if they want to work in that system, then they will have to pay for the license upgrade to class E.

I read the RFP. It is pretty extensive, but very thorough. I wonder how many companies are going to meet all of the qualifications? As far as the statements like "They should just give it to Empress", it is very obvious that some people do not understand the first thing about how local government works.

JetPhoto, you hit the nail on the head. Even though it's a little thing, it's a way to let people know we appreciate them taking the time to post and add knowledge, information, or photos to our community, making it better for everyone.

It's the nice thing to do, easy and same as liking something on Facebook. Give people some credit for posts you like.

I gave you a like, Jim, because it's definitely something that's gone to the wayside. A lot of members won't reply to posts, and then they get to the point where they read and just move on. It's like looking at Facebook all day....eventually you just see a few posts and move on. But sometimes there's a great topic and some awesome information that comes across the threads, and no one acknowledges that they were there, that they read anything! I'm just as guilty of this, as sometimes I'm just catching up on things or just reading a few threads before I have to run out the door.
But, you're right. We should be acknowledging each other a little more with that tiny blue button in the lower left corner.

I notice fewer & fewer people using the "Like This" button, now of course everyone is not going to "Like" everything but consider the contribution the person made to the topic.
As an example if a person creates an "Incident Alert" and they really take the time to put some details in the story please consider giving them some credit. I have seen some people who no longer post them because it appears no one cares.
If people post some photos of an incident and you like them let them know by hitting that "Like" button.
Good conversation started or comments you agree with in a topic give them some credit hit the button.
    Just my opinion
    Jim

On the topic of offering to create a joint system with Pelham-that seems like a pretty clear indication that the contract is empress' to lose, no?  Either way that sounds like a great way to improve service to Pelham at the same time by consolidating systems-something Westchester (and mass too, among others) could use more of.

The equipment section of the contract had a few interesting points. Granted, it's been a while since my NY card lapsed, and even longer since I actually spent any significant time volunteering there (and only at the Bls level), but the inclusion of video scopes and BiPAP capable vents was a surprise. Are a lot of services in Westchester moving to video scopes?  As for the vents, are medics in ny allowed to initiate them (either for incubated patients or as NIV)?  Or is that provision there for stat transfers out of SSMC/monte north?

The Bureau of EMS was notified late Friday afternoon that the Trustee handling the TransCare EMS bankruptcy  ordered Transcare Hudson Valley to cease operations and to pull their units from service in Putnam.  The Bureau was immediately authorized by County Executive MaryEllen Odell to Implement its contingency plan. This evening we are transitioning the County ALS FlyCar system from TransCare to EMSTAR. Fortunately most of the TransCare staff have accepted positions with EMSTAR.  Due to the last minute notice we were only able to initially activate 3 EMSTAR Flycars to replace the four TransCare Units. We are hopeful we can have the fourth ALS Unit and a BLS Unit in service at some point this weekend or early next week. This has been a trying time for the TransCare staff and Bureau staff as well. We will do everything in our power to maintain an ALS system that continues to assure the health and safety of all our residents. Please be patient with us as we move forward with our new ALS provider. Thank you.  Commissioner Sutton

They gave the test a few years ago and they have not exhausted the list yet, so it will probably be a while before they give it again.

The current owner of EMStar is not the same guy who owned and ran Hudson Valley Paramedics, which eventually became Care1 EMS. The people involved in those 2 companies have nothing to do with EMStar. EMStar has the NY Division and they have a Philadelphia Division. EMStar is part of a larger corporation that owns a series of nursing homes in NY & PA.

Their NY Base is in Suffern, NY, with stations in Westchester County and Orange County. They have contracts with different medical facilities around Orange, Rockland and Westchester Counties. They also provide 911 ALS services to Cornwall & Warwick VACs and they get called mutual aid by OC911 if Mobile Life does not have units available. Since all the problems with TransCare started, EMStar has been expanding by adding more staff and more ambulances.
