Many homeowners have gotten emergency generators during or after Super-storm Irene. But as you seen in LI, that drives a demand for gasoline the longer the outage continues. Have neighborhoods figured out how to get power to fuel stations during extended outages? (This is assuming public safety sites like PD, FD, hospitals, etc are taken care of first).
Have departments set up or conducted safety classes/inspections for emergency generators? In New England, there were a couple house fires due to generators. Obviously stand-by generators (hardwired into the house) should be inspected, but portable emergency generators can be bought and used without inspection.

I think the one aspect they fail to mention is, personal safety. We know the most dangerous aspects of flight is take-off and landings. If there is an emergency, the crew needs to relay important information and directions. If people are fiddling with their personal electronic, they are less likely to pay attention to their surroundings. I think any distractions should be banned during take-off and landing, especially electronic devices (and not for the technical reasons).

Or he's in the gym. That's too bad. The business has to be a lot of work, but it's a family business.

Got the DVR set to record the rerun, missed the show last night. Did he hire some of the guys back for the peak season?

My wife keeps telling me that I'm not funny and it's even harder on-line.
I was joking in light of this discussion: http://www.emtbravo.net/index.php/topic/49497-paving-to-reduce-saw-mill-parkway-flooding-set-to-start/

It is "dead" or has it changed? Look at the nuclear family, how many families sit down to dinner together, without the television on, without electronic devices?
I am not convinced it's the Brotherhood that is "dead" but a reflection on how society in general is now. Sad, but I think it is true for general society and not just the Brotherhood. I think this extends to many other environments, even us in corporate America.

A friend of mine passed away a few months ago and his family gave me his collection of photos. There are boxes filled with photos, negatives, slides and manufacturer delivery photos. Going through it and scanning the good stuff I see there is some Westchester stuff. I'm going to put the good quality stuff up in this thread. He did a lot of photo buying/ trading so if there is a photographers name on the slide I will post it along with the image. First up is a 1964 ALF tiller from Hasting on Hudson.....Ron Bogardus photo.

There are a number of pin jobs in NYC, usually the patients are in critical condition or DOA if they are caught between the train and the platform. This sounds like a less severe pin, but none the less, how often do you see this?

The article eludes to technical issues, but it sounds like there are many more. Is some of it training? "figuring things out" is not really something you want to hear from a surgeon, dentist or your 911 dispatcher.

Interesting concept, pretty simple and helpful data for rescuers.
    http://www.engadget.com/2013/05/25/mercedes-benz-putting-qr-codes-on-cars-to-speed-up-rescues/
...In future a QR code, which can be read by smartphones and tablets, placed on Mercedes-Benz cars, will provide a rescue map for every vehicle type, which can be shown on the device's display. This chart contains all the information necessary to rescue any injured occupants speedily...
...The sheets show firefighters, police and paramedics the design details they need to know in order to use the rescue shears effectively, for example. The rescue sheet, specific for each vehicle type, also informs about the location of the airbags, the battery, the tanks, electric cables, high-pressure cylinders and other components – in the case of hybrid models the location of the additional batteries and high-voltage cables, too. This information can save lives, because in an emergency every action counts and every second is precious...

Is it more expensive to have him on the rovolving door at the court house or in prison? I wonder if he is the first suspect that gets called when a petty crime occurs in the neighborhood. Oh wait, that would be profiling.

Boston has these bars with dangling chains (Storrow Drive and Memorial Drive on the Cambridge side) and they do little to deter a driver from getting on the roadway. In fact, just this morning a truck got stuck on Memorial Drive under the Mass Ave overpass. Usually these kind of events are reserved for Labor Day and students with rental box trucks, but it does happen with larger commercial vehicles during the year. Shortly after Hurricane Sandy, I saw a convoy of out of state utility workers being lead by a foreman (in a pickup truck) getting on the SMRP at Thornwood and heading SB. I am hoping they were going to the Thruway. Though they probably could have made it all the way to Yonkers (did they replace that pedestrian walkway south of Dobbs Ferry?)

We all know what this job is about. This is one place that tradition comes into play in a meaningful way, and I don't care to hear from the naysayers and that "200 years of tradition uninterrupted by progress. I'm not talking about tactics and strategy, fog vs. straight, PPA. Those things are not tradition. A firefighter''s helmet is a symbol of who he is or who he was. Whatever style of helmet he wore is not the operative here. The symbolism here is that it is HIS helmet. Wearing this helmet he has accomplished things that the average person could not ever fathom. He has seen life and he has seen death. He calls anyone who wears similar headgear his brother because he knows where that person has been. If a firefighter meets his death on the job, it is his helmet that leads him to his funeral service.
My father passed away, non-LODD, when I was 15 years old. His helmet was solemnly and ceremoniously presented to me by one of his brothers. When my first son got on the job, I presented him with that same helmet. When my second son got on the job, I presented him with my old helmet. Those helmets are kept in places of honor in their homes. Why? Because that helmet says "That's who we are."
Politicians, City Managers, the general public, and unfortunately, some firefighters don't understand the symbolism. As for the rest of us, "You can leave this job, but you can't leave this job behind"
So, then, is that stinky, strange-looking hat worth $100?

    Nice looking rig!
A couple question if you don't mind:
    1) Was there an option for an extended cab for more leg room (not a 4-door like FDNY)
    2) With this chassis choice, what is the difference in load height (for the strecher) versus the E-series (non 4WD) Ford chassis? The 4WD chassis here looks pretty low, it has a real nice stance and appears to be a reasonable height.
    3) Is that a camera in the patient compartment?
