Best bet would be to call Peekskil HR yourself and find out for sure where you stand.

RIP. Clint Herbert who is the father of 7 children ranging from 1 1/2 to 18 years old, many of whom attend Somers schools, and also leaves behind a wife, was killed in a crash in Somers during Sunday nights icy weather . He was a Con Ed Electric Foreman and was originally from Eastchester. He's responded to many accident scenes, storms, etc in his duties as a Foreman and Lineman. He worked mainly in the Bronx but spent a lot of time in Westchester too.
We work hand in hand with the guys from Con Ed now more then ever. Help keep this post on the top of the post list by adding your condolences so the fundraiser info can be seen by more people for a little while.
Thoughts and prayers first are with him, his family and friends, and the Somers FD, WEMS, and NYSP responders who tried to save his life against all odds. Was a very hard job to work from my understanding, and obviously so.

Notable incident is self defining. We all are way to familiar to all the problems in the local fire service. The title of this thread is "Westchester Run Totals 2015". For stats, curiosity, fun, whatever. If you want to go into the other issues, fine. Just please don't hijack this thread, start a new one.

In these departments that self-dispatch yet regularly need to request mutual aid for basic incidents, whats the protocol? I'd imagine the dispatcher still needs to contract 60 to request mutual aid. Is this assumption incorrect? If its not, what's the point of self-dispatch if you need to contact 60 for anything of substance?

I've only kept my pager at my house so I can't give exact locations but I've heard complaints from members of different agencies all over Northern Westchester and there do seem to be several pockets with spotty reception. As far as cell reception goes I've experienced lack of service in parts of Northern Westchester from the Hudson to the Connecticut border. As other members have pointed out there certainly are some areas that don't get reception.

Is it really obsolete and useless? I know here in Westchester there are areas that pagers and cell phones don't get any reception. I don't know anything about this area of Delaware, but I imagine if one of the wealthiest counties in the country has areas lacking service, other areas have similar problems.

somebuffyguy liked a post in a topic by Mini-Attack9 in Bedford Called To Pound Ridge Fire?
1) The land owned by the Bedford Fire District is actually located on the corner of Old Post Road and Southbrook Rd, directly across from Greenwich Road. Not at Route 172 and Route 22.
2) Bedford is in committee to replace Engine 110, a 1987 Seagrave Engine. The members of the department and district feel that replacing the engine is what they need to better serve the community.
3) As a Chief of a neighboring department that has an excellent social and working relationship with the Bedford Fire Department I can say that the departments in our area (especially the 13th and 16th Battalions) train multiple times a year and we run through as many "Water Supply" and structural firefighting scenarios as we can plus we all run together on a regular basis.
We all know the resources the BFD has to offer. Engine 109 is the scene engine, going directly to the seat of the fire. while Engine 108 lays to or from a water source, while the mutual aid tankers nurse or set up for shuttle operations. The Chief Officers of BFD have done a great job for pre planning all of their box alarms for Greater Alarms. On any reported Structure Fire in their district, they get at a minimum of a mutual aid Ladder Company and Tanker, and as the incident envolves so do the resources called in their predetermined Greater Alarm polices.
4) In this time with all of the talks of how Fire Departments should be consolidating, sharing resources is the most economical and fairest option for the taxpayers of the Bedford Fire District and the Town of Bedford.
5) Lastly, in regards to the Pound Ridge Incident, The Chief called the resources he felt were necessary for THAT incident, and in no way was he trying to "shaft" BFD out of the mutual aid assignment.
Thanks for reading and have a great Thanksgiving!
J.Nickson
Asst. Chief BHFD

dwcfireman liked a post in a topic by somebuffyguy in New Rochelle FD Inadequate Staffing
Here's a link to the study http://www.larchmontgazette.com/2009WP/2009graphics/firereport.pdf
To sum it up, by consolidating 10 of the southern Westchester departments and cutting down from 28 engines and 14 ladders to 19 engines and 14 ladders, all of which would now be manned by 4 firefighters. While it is true that a department like New Rochelle wouldn't see much of an increase in firefighters stationed in their city, they would have a greater number of firefighters responding to alarms as now the first due companies will be whatever is closest. An example given by the study is a structure fire in the north end of NR would now get units from Scarsdale, Eastchester and Hartsdale before units from the south end of NR as they are actually closer. Read for yourself and make your own conclusion.

It's hardly fair to bring up one detail of an incident and just say "well that was dumb of them". I haven't heard many of the details of this fire so I'd be interested. What mutual aid units were sent? Was anyone requested and not able to respond? Where there any other incidents in the county at that time causing departments to not be able to send mutual aid?
A 4 alarm fire is a massive incident, even if the entire county were merged into one department I'd imagine that during a 4-alarm incident some areas would be lower on staffing than usual.
