There were talks of a regionalized dispatch center for the greater Danbury area, however, most of the local fiefdo- I mean towns wanted to maintain local control of their 1 dispatcher per shift...
Besides, the way Danbury went about their process was all wrong. Contract dispatchers are not the answer, civil service employees under a city 911 office would have been much better quality than what they have so far.

1) Yes it would, but a consolidated system needs to include all e911 not just fire/ems. If the cops are not on board, then this will never work properly. And the cops are the ones who set up the e911 system to protect their little fiefdoms.
2) Before we set up our radio system, we met with the county to discus the "proposed" trunk system. We were told the trunk system as designed would a) not cover 100% of our district and unless additional tower licenses were obtained, it would never work properly in the southern part of the county and It was not designed for the day to day use that our department needs of its radio system. So we built our own and for our purpose, ours is vastly superior.

To clarify. The County did not refuse to dispatch the METU. I requested it and was advised through the proper dispatch procedure that the vehicle was not yet placed in service and that it was not available. This is no different than any other fire apparatus or ambulance. The County did coordinate the dispatch of two Bee Line buses in its place. Many of you need to climb out of your glass house and visit the real world. Stop posting and spreading rumors before knowing the facts.

The first question to ask is who is responsible for staffing it and responding with it? Who is in charge of the regular maintenance and who is trained to use it?
