Monroe is delivered already? Just posted a pic from final inspection on Smeal's Facebook a few days ago. A comment in reply to it suggests the new 538 is going to be a Smeal mid-mount.

Well guys after 43 years as a Port Chester Firefighter [ 18 years very active volunteer working at DPW then getting the dream job getting paid to do what I love to do this is my last day. It didn't end the way I wanted it too but away I go . I was fortunate to catch the war years when we went out every day for a job worked side by side with many dept.'s and made a lot of life long friends on mutual aid. I saw a lot of death and sorrow [ Gulliver's 24 DOA Stouffer's 26 DOA 9/11 world trade center ] and saved a few along the way but my greatest call was closing a large window [ life savers building ] for a 84 year old lady who was freezing because her window was open and she needed help. The next day she baked a apple pie for me and my partner. So I say good bye to it all and hope that I left a small mark somewhere. To my 2 sons that are following or trying to follow in my foot step's keep up the good work in this most rewarding profession . Good luck to the guy's that are left on my job and hope that thing's get better for you and the people we were sworn to protect.

Have not seen any apparatus related legal notices recently, but have heard some sketchy info. Pine Bush (Orange Co.) may be getting a Rosenbauer pumper. Source I spoke with said he thinks that's who they went with. "Whatever it is that Garrison sells nowadays". No word on how far along it is.
Bullville (Orange) said to have two KME rescue pumpers on order which will replace both current engines and the rescue.

No sooner do I mention the lack of legal notices than one turns up. Greenville (Orange) seeking to purchase a used Pierce Lance pumper with 1200 gallon tank. I believe this will replace the KME heavy rescue that was the source of some issues earlier.
Also, New Hampton (Orange) should take delivery before the end of the year of a Spartan/Rosenbauer quint with 102' rear mount platform. Called a Rosenbauer Raptor.....has a Metz look to it.

So, which fire apparatus manufacturer doesn't claim to be the best? Pretty sure most, if not all, of them have made similar claims at one point or another. I don't think I've seen an example of any particular one that was universally liked. The phrase "one man's trash is another man's treasure" seems to be a good way to describe it. Ferrara, Seagrave, Pierce, KME.....they all have those who love them, and those who wouldn't have one if it was offered for free. And, they all think they're the tops at their game.

Fishkill (Dutchess) has placed into service an 85-foot Smeal mid-mount platform on a Spartan chassis.
Seagraves for Somers and Rifton (Ulster) are complete.

Wanted to create an information source regarding new apparatus orders for the area, not limited just to Orange. Any new rigs for Ulster, Dutchess, Putnam, Bergen (NJ), Rockland, Nassau.....and of course, Westchester.
Any bids, orders, deliveries, "spy shots", etc. that anyone is willing to share, feel free to post 'em up!

Curious about something. Looking at the construction pics of Ossining's sharp looking new Spartan ERV pumper. There is a large "notch" in the top of the cab, the kind usually created to accommodate a rear mount ladder when the cab is raised roof. Is this going to be a quint of some sort? Body appears to be the normal size/style for a regular pumper, which makes me think not. And, light towers usually lay side to side, rather than front to back. Can anyone shed some light on this? Thanks in advance.

Winona Lake looks great! Guess they changed their minds re: unit number?
I like the idea of listing retired rigs available. Quite a few I'd love to own myself, if only I had the resources necessary to do so. Yeah, I dream big....LOL!

Some enforcement of the 50 PSI and Fog Stream only rules that appear on most flyers could eliminate such problems. It is when people stop being responsible that bad things happen which give such events the bad rep that they have.
It's unfortunate that some people think such events are a waste of time, etc., and they are certainly entitled to their opinions. But, the "all work, no play" mentality is not good for morale or retaining members, either. Gotta have a little fun and be sociable once in a while, just do it safely.

I'll be there first thing in the AM with camera in hand. Sounds like we'll have a good turnout from what Jeff told me yesterday. Looking forward to it!

Legal notice for New Hampton (Orange Co.) seeking bids for a 102' quint.
Florida's (Orange) new rescue is complete, not sure if delivered yet? It's a KME medium duty rescue on a Freightliner M2-106 four door 4x4 chassis.
Construction has begun on a Spartan ERV pumper for Wyckoff, NJ (Bergen) and a 93' mid-mount platform for Congers, NY (Rockland). Also underway is a Ferrara 100' rear mount platform for East Fishkill, NY (Dutchess).

Campbell Hall (Orange Co.) took delivery of their new rescue earlier this week. It's built by UST Fire Apparatus (formerly US Tanker) on a four-door International TerraStar chassis.
Production has started on the following: Kenworth/Pierce tanker for Goshen (Orange) and Seagrave engines for Bedford Hills (Westchester) and Tallman (Rockland).
Delivery for Maybrook's new engine has been pushed back to November, and Washington Heights' Freightliner/Ferrara medium rescue is due in mid-October.
Sparrowbush (Orange) seeking bids again for a new pumper-tanker.
That's about all I have. Anyone else have any further updates? Have not heard who Pine Bush went with for an engine, or if an order has even been placed yet.

Don't know how many of you have ever seen this before (or if it's been posted here earlier and I missed it), but I stumbled across this video today and was quite impressed by it. A 17 year old female explorer sets up a porta-tank operation all by herself in 2 min. and 30 sec.
Kudos to this young lady for learning her craft well, and also an honorable mention to the truck committee and apparatus manufacturer for designing a rig that can be operated by a single person if need be.
Upon further examination, it appears this clip was uploaded four years ago. Wonder how she's doing today?

The apparatus news page on Eli's site (10-75.net) suggests a 100' rear mount Ferrara platform for East Fishkill. No such beast is shown on Ferrara's "In Production" page as of yet, however.
Updates for Orange Co.: Washington Heights' rescue due in August since switching to Ferrara, and Mechanicstown's Seagrave engine (which I am now told will replace 125, rather than 118) is due in late May.
Still no word on Pine Bush or Sparrowbush's bids.

The U.S. Military Academy at West Point (Orange) has received - or soon will receive - a new Pierce Saber pumper, one of several headed to Army bases around the country. Link to pic on Pierce's Flickr site: https://www.flickr.com/photos/piercemfg/13473416575/
Washington Heights (Orange) has placed an order for a medium duty Ferrara rescue to be built on a 4-door Freightliner chassis. Expected delivery in October.
Mechanicstown's (Orange) new Seagrave engine has started production.
