why ??? in this case 4000 reasons... and from sympathomedic calculations, to save 5 maybe 6 minutes ??? really ?? logic is where ?
In my clueless opinion, is not worth it.. Sorry if you think differently then me, but every time I get behind the wheel of an apparatus, I am concerned for the safety of my crew behind me all the idiots, friends and family on these roads I am traveling... shouldn't every driver think like that? STOP kidding your self... public safety is job # 1 and going through a red light is not safe for the general public...
M'ave - this is not NYC, where traveling blocks can take a long time with the traffic, ( Might you I do not have allot of experience in driving down there, but have discussed it with many drivers )so if it what they want to do, so be it... they are FDNY ... and I have read back through this discussion and it seems split of the YES and NO's here... so are we really reading the same thing...
Look if you really feel RLS are needed for mutual aid, so be it, but god help you if your in an accident and someone is killed for a mutual aid stand by... the lawyers will have a field day with it.
From this incident, has the department kept or changed their policy on RLS for coverage calls ?

OK, so bringing it back full circle: Using NR as an example, EMS resources are NOT moved into the city RLS or otherwise even when all city EMS is unavailable UNLESS it is predicted to be hours before a city unit will be free. This is despite a constant and predictable steady drumbeat of 911 demands for EMS calls, about 3% of which are truly life and death.
In the Greenville scenario that started the thread (remember back then?) a fire unit had to travel all of 10.2 miles (21 mins per Mr. Google) to cover two (Pelham and the Manor) agencies that COMBINED respond to 2 fire calls per day and maybe 2-3 actual fires per year. The crew used lights and sirens and become involved in a crash that caused $4000 in damage to their truck. (pure guestimate that RLS cut 25% off the response time= 5 minute 15 second time savings)
May I assume that the response was terminated by the crash? And that no alarm came was received by PFD/PMFD while ANOTHER mutual aid company was found to replace disabled the GFD rig?
And, really kidding here, did anyone respond RLS INTO Greenvile to cover until they got their rig fixed?

I know of some departments that respond RLS to stand by cverage and I don't know why. I certainly don't think any reasonable person could say that it was a true emergency. But probably half the calls we respond to aren't true emergencies that wuld require or warrent RLS.
Questionable insurance filings aside, if you blow through a red light responding to a stand by, you should be ticketed.

I am not really sure of the actual radio call times ins, BUT actually Tanker 15 was first on the scene, dropping a supply line at the base of the driveway and pulling up to the house. Tanker10 then remained on the road and set up a nursing operation in case water was needed... Along with Millwood's next due engine.
    Before someone starts questioning...

To clarify. The County did not refuse to dispatch the METU. I requested it and was advised through the proper dispatch procedure that the vehicle was not yet placed in service and that it was not available. This is no different than any other fire apparatus or ambulance. The County did coordinate the dispatch of two Bee Line buses in its place. Many of you need to climb out of your glass house and visit the real world. Stop posting and spreading rumors before knowing the facts.

The RH is similar to what we have been using in the Millwood/Yorktown/Croton area... depending on the size of the fire, the engine up the driveway will drop its 5 inch LDH and we connect a 5 inch gated Wye to the end. Two 5 inch lines are attached and the first tanker connects to that and pumps off ( 3000 gal is norm ), when the 2nd tanker arrives, it connects to the other 5 inch LDH and once the first tanker is empty, it starts pumping... then the 1st one disconnects and heads out to refill... but this needs to be looked at first and placement needs to be thought out, as once things are up and running, its hard to change your mind...
And... I have found that filling one tanker at a time is the best approach, to maximize water flow ( until we had the Yorktown fire and we used the hydrant at Millwood's sub station.... we were able to fill 2 tankers at the same time, with very little loss of time, if any )

thanks, while running this morning I heard the sounds of jet engines to my south, but had NO clue what it was... we normally do not hear Westchester airport noise in Croton, so that was out... I was actually thinking Metro North was using their jet engine dryers ( for lack of the right name ) for tack work.... at least now I know...

Nice looking rig... From the pictures I saw, I would recommend you keep an eye on the defroster... Croton's T 10 appears to have the same set up ( 1 center diffuser vent ) and during last winter while handling several runs, we had big issues with the windshield fogging up... Right now Seagrave is still looking into it, and they have a few months to figure it out, but I would keep it in mind and check yours...

Hey all, we have a few older pieces of equipment laying around the fire house and I believe I can put together somthing for Tanker 10 to assist in bring water from a lake to the fill site engine. But I need a 5 inch storz to 6 inch male thread adapter. I do not want the Village to purchase this item if it does not work, so I am reaching out the the members here. If you have one and its not being used everyday, I would like to borrow it for a few days to test out the idea... I will gladly travel to pick it up and return it to you...
anyone ??? ( willing to leave my son Ryan as collateral )
