The police as well. Besides having to have to respond to fire and ems calls they are up there frequently for assaults, robberies and other crimes. While agree the frequent flyer calls are a waste of taxpayer money there is still a duty to respond. Biggest problem is the administrators at Cedar Knolls have their heads in the clouds and don't seem to want to deal with any issues.

For those bleeding hearts including Obama who wants to take away this type of equipment from law enforcement I wonder how many cop's lives this piece of machine saved.

From what I read it's not a done deal the board just set aside money for next years budget in the event hiring a full time chief is warranted.

I also believe that this would have to go to a public referendum.

If only we'd learn from the past and stop doing it over and over again in the future....
I can be a little hawkish....but we're digging a lot of holes for ourselves....
On the flip-side, I'd like to see us actually fight someone, and not in the media and the television cameras. War is ugly, now it has to deal with the flow of easy information and public perception.

The officer worked out of my sons precinct PSA-5. May he rest in peace and may God watch over his family.

I have seen first hand how political correctness has ruined the fire service. What used to be expressing your opinions or good old fashion ball breaking has now become violations of harassment policies. You now have to be careful what you say or else risk being disciplined in fact being dismissed from the fire department.

Fascism flourishes when the fear to speak your mind replaces the freedom to do so. Remember Nazism was "politically correct" once too.

    To the "PC" police...
You may not like what I have to say, but I have the right to say it...you only have the right not to listen.

I believe there are more involved than just her. This was a well thought out plan that had to involve people who had access to the tools. Civilian movement is limited ( at least where I used to work) so it is unlikey she had access to a shop or room where the tools are stored without help. They have to establish a chain of events as to what hands were the tools passed through untill they got into the hands of the inmates. Somehow they knew the layout of the pipe chases behind the cells, the direction of the pipes, and where the manhole cover was. It could take time before they truly know how this was done and who helped.

You won't see riots or protests because we are civilized people who do not resort to tactics like the thugs do and look for excuses to loot or destroy people's livelyhood. Prayers for a speedy recovery for the officer and I hope the tugs that did this get theirs.

True statement. I have witnessed first hand how clicks single out people and bully them. Sad part is many of those in these clicks are elected by the public in good faith to make sure the agency is doing the right thing but instead using their authority to throw people out for no good reason.

I am glad this ended with no loss of life both the firefighters and law enforcement. The article say the former members was in a dispute with the fire company. My guess is this goes way beyond that. And I am not excusing what he did and he should do time I also think he needs help. There is a mental illness crisis in this country that is exploding to levels we have never seen before and it is being ignored.
