After taking The Pepperball Instructor course I think every PD should have them because of this incident and the incident at Playland. I can guarantee that all involved would have quickly complied if the were either hit of in the general area of where the balls exploded. Good for long range as to not put the good guys in harms way!

RYE — Tuesday's melee at Playland Amusement Park could have been avoided had police shown more restraint in dealing with angry park-goers, a leader of The Muslim American Society of New York said Thursday.
Of course it's the PD's fault!

I can answer who was in the Philippines around the same time; his name is Ramzi Yousef. He built and detonated the 1993 bomb at The World Trade Center. Speaking of coincidences, guess who his uncle is; Khalid Shaikh Mohammed. Yes that KSM currently being held in Guantanamo; the "brains" behind the 9/11 attacks. Yousef is doing a life without parole gig in a Federal Prison.
Radical Islamists are here to stay in this world. Don't be a dhimi, a multiculturalist, who thinks these Radicals want to assimilate with us "infidels." Their goal is an Islamic Caliphate, the elimination of the ONLY democracy in the middle east; Israel. They want a Caliphate that extends around the world. And according to their holy book, it is just fine to lie and be deceitful toward the "enemy" to achieve their goals.
I'm really surprised by some of you. A mere ten years later, and you guys sound like a bunch of naive liberal college kids...."everything can be worked out, just accept these people...they have no grand plans at world domination."
I have a great place for you to start if you truly give a cr@p and want to LEARN: "1000 YEARS FOR REVENGE" (International Terrorism and The FBI), BY Peter Lance, ReganBooks.
Do some reading, then get back to those of us, who not only remember 9/11 like it was yesterday, but have educated ourselves about the ENEMY ever since.

I firmly believe in using any language neccesary to get the job done. I think mentally when a "commoner" hears an LEO say what's on his/her mind, they may think to him/herself, this COP means business. I'll take a couple day rip if it keeps me and my collegue's alive!

You say this guy fiorino sounded like a geek , Is a geek any less capable of killing a cop ?
You say that other examples of people being stopped for open carry in other parts of PA have been "polite"... did you ever think that there is a HUGE DIFFERENCE between getting stopped in northwest pebnnsylvania where it is very common to carry a weapon legally as opposed to being stopped in the ghettto of philly where it is very common for people to carry a wepon illegally.
Unless you have encountered an armed suspect on the street then you can't say how you would feel or how another cop should feel or act. In my 13 years on the job I have been forced to draw my weapon and disarm many people on the street, once even chasing a male with a handgun while I was off duty... and at no time was I nice about it and if people take issue with that I could honestly care less because at the end of the day I got the job done and I and my partners went home at the end of the tour.
You point out that he told the sergeant that he had a permit and was carrying legally... you do realize that people lie to us pretty often right ? I stopped a male in downtown yonkers one night that had a handgun in his waistband who told me the gun was legal in south carolina and after disarming him at gunpoint and informing him that his weapon was not legal in NY, it turned out that he lied to me and that his weapon was not even registered in S.C. (not that I evan began to believe him anyway).
The bottom line is that police work is not always pretty, it's not always like the movies or like it is on cops, people fight, people run, people resist arrest and people question EVERYTHING WE DO.
You took this small clip and ran with the whole " some cops don't respect the courtesy campaigns " or whatever you said and that is just complete nonsense.

Let me correct one thing, I don't use foul language with everyone. I do when I feel it is necessary!
All is that kid had to do is comply with the Sgt. I don't care if he has a full carry or not, do what the PO's say & you may be on your way! Sounds like this guy is looking to cash in on a lawsuit!

It's too bad that many jobs don't do license abstracts every 6 months to see who works for them. Driving suspended doesn't make you a bad person. Sometimes you may forget about a ticket or may have missed a letter in the mail. PD's shld send out certified letters so people have to sign for them.
Some people just don't care if their licenses are suspended because the laws and fines aren't tough enough. I know we shouldn't jam up jails with people who drive with a suspended license, but something has to be done. Sometimes however, ins companies send a letter to DMV stating you have no ins when in fact you may have changed companies. If that's the case, I give you the benefit of the doubt.
It would be nice if PD's and the DMV could get into the computer age and make everyone's life easy!

There is also the problem of the violator always postponing a court date. I am still getting trial notices from tickets like 3-4 years ago. On the old hand written tickets, notes are written on the back. If you saved your copies and have to go to court, there is your memory from that day. I don't remember every ticket I have written, but I remember every ahole, & they are usually the one's that wouldn't plead down when given the chance!

What PD's should do when manpower permits, is set up a Move Over Act operation. Have a Patrolcar on side of road with lights on and pull over and ticket all who don't comply! Prob get a couple of idiot drivers!

How about before we give BLS units meds, we require they need to respond to calls after the 1st tone out and within national standards for dispatch and turnout times. Note I will let the response time slide, because as stated, some of the distances are far (and the response time standard is based on urban/suburban).

I actually enforce this law because it pisses me off when headlights aren't on! Many people break the law in bad weather because they think LEO's don't like getting wet. What's a little water when you get to see the look's on the driver's face!

  23. ONEEYEDMIC liked a post in a topic in What has happened to good BLS?
As an experienced ALS provider and one who saw first hand the decline in BLS skill while still a BLS provider I have several opinions on this. And for the one who said they had "senior EMT's who hated medics," my experience has been they are often the most dangerous and suffer from certification napoleon complexes and are some of the ones I have to keep the closest eye on. But either way...as I often tell people...I'm not here to function so EMT's like me...I'm here for my patients to like me and give good solid patient care. I take being called a "dick" or "intimidating" as a compliment. I'm one of the most demanding medics in my system..and for one purpose..solid patient care. Any instructor and I have heard stories of people teaching..."do this and that and WAIT FOR ALS TO ARRIVE"....WHat!!!???!! Are you kidding me? I have to tell bls crews by radio often to not wait for me if I did a job from far away. Clip boards should be banned from in houses. If you are thrown into the real world..something is wrong...and unfortunately too many agencies push new EMT's into spots they are not ready for. Have required ride time as curriculums do not have enough field rotations in them for EMT-B's. Someone said something about being called old fashioned for taking the time to understanding something instead of throwing on O2 and putting them in semi fowlers and going to the hospital. Yes you are right...but it should take no more then 60 seconds to realize they need oxygen..use the time to get the lifting device you may need or the time transporting to figure it out...on scene time is important and one of the singular most important treatments any EMS provider can perform is transporting your patient.
    With that said...
    1. The change in curriculum in the late 90's to me was a dumb down of the certification and reduced the background and A & P knowledge us old curriculum EMT's needed to know. The patient assessment in the curriculum is absolutely atrocious and too cookie cutter. I became the medic I am because of strong bls education and street experience...its not there anymore.
    2. Lack of training within VAC's. Some things need to be learned on the street..other things need to be learned and practiced as you don't use them often. CME training is often lectures...get them out of their chairs and review equipment and bls skills done in courses and testing.
    3. I've worked around and seen some medics who don't step back enough to allow BLS to do their thing when appropriate. I always give them slack...and then take back over if they are lost.

I hope nobody is counting Catholic School as a private school! I know for a fact that Catholic Teachers get paid crap! After tenure, public school teachers are making more than most cops in Westchester at top pay! I wish the Catholic school system paid like that!
