This past August, i spent a week in Nashville, TN. During my stay, i tried to get some FD pictures. Nashville is a great City, so i didnt want to spend too much time buffing lol.
I happened to stop by this Firehouse one day. I was greeted by the housewatchmen who told me the rest of the house were out on a training detail. That being said, most of the apparatus that was housed there was out on the detail.
The pictures are of Truck-2, which was less than a year old when i took these pictures. The housewatchmen was more than willing to pull the rig out so i could get some good shots. The only other rig that was there was a Communications Unit. Unfortunately, the lighting was bad and i couldnt get a decent shot of it.
Anyway, heres a few shots of Nashville FD Truck-2, a 2010 Pierce Velocity tower-ladder.
*I aplogize for the sideways pictures. I rotated them, but cant get them to save properly.

Bill, great shots as always brother.
Its a damn shame when anyone loses their home, but even more so during the holidays. Was the family home at the time, were there any injuries?
The firefighters definately had mother nature working against them all the way!

    Updated info:
    http://newyork.cbslocal.com/2010/12/27/nyc-faced-with-tough-questions-about-blizzard-response/
    Includes these little tid-bits:
I don't know how the membership here feels about this (hopefully some of you will post your thoughts), but frankly I'm disgusted and honestly fearful right now. I have elderly relatives in the Bronx, and it means a restless night for me having to worry if God forbid one of them needs immediate critical care, they'll more than likely not survive the night.
The mayor, having looked at vital emergency services (and that includes Sanitation) through his bean counting machine, and deciding that city residents could live with things like closed fire companies, the coming rolling brown-outs of supposedly 20 companies at night (all while his pet project "citytime" has ballooned from an estimated cost of 60 million dollars to 800 million dollars) has definitely lost touch with the common working class people of the outer boroughs. Through this debacle, we'll see what the final tally ends up being in lost lives.
The city chose not to declare a snow emergency, which would have banned cars from the streets. Take a look at the results of that decision. why wouldn't they call for a snow emergency? It would cost money.
That's the problem when you have a billionaire businessman try and run public/emergency services like a "business." F****D up priorities, and when a big problem like this storm shows up, it costs the little people, not in his billionaire pocketbook, but in human lives lost. Let's all pray it isn't that many.

These are photos of Rombout Fire Departments structure fire that occurred at 226 Windsor Rd just before midnight on Sunday. Firefighters arrived to find fire through the roof of a ~ 4500 sq ft residence with high winds, heavy snow, white-out conditions, and near zero wind chill ...... Perfect weather for firefighting....... Firefighters apparently attempted an interior attack but were forced to retreat due to insufficent water and rapid fire spread due to the high winds...... I arrived as Command advised that they were going defensive....... I had a tough time keeping my lens free of snow and debris due to the high winds and only shot with one of two cameras I normally shoot with as a result...... This was clearly a frustrating fire for all who were there.....

A shot from the front...... Hughsonvilles FAST Team and Village of Fishkill......

It was snowing heavily and very windy.......

Hey, I found a hot spot........

A shot from the rear..... These guys were inside under the fire but had to pull out due to rapidly deteriorating conditions......

    Insurmountable odds.....

With the wind fanning the fire and water issues.... Crews were ordered to pull back their lines and were clearly frustrated that they were defeated .....

This is shot of the Central Hudson gas man..... He had just retrieved the power meter but said "I killed the power but It's up to guys to turn off the gas.... It's too damn hot!"

While a tanker shuttle was being initiated, Rombout's Tower gets set up......

Village of Fishkill firefighters watch as 62-45 hits the fire......

    The end.....

    The Firefighter is at fault!
Why? Because this is 2010. Everything is somehow the Firefighters fault.
    The economy? Our fault
Low private sector pensions? Our fault
Gulf war? Our fault...retaliation for our 343
Global warming? Our fault...we go shopping with rigs
Civilian fire death? Our fault...slow response
Vehicle accident? Our fault...driving too fast

If the 35,000+ Ibs. fire truck hits or is hit by a 4,000 Ibs. The truck always wins, the lawyers/judge just decide how much it will cost.

According to the court case of Tennessee v. Garner, the use of deadly force is justified when an officer has probable cause to believe that an otherwise unarmed suspect, through his escape or means of escape, poses a significant threat of death or serious physical injury to the officer or others. (The court case also states that the instrument used to dispense the deadly force is of no consequence.) The totality of the circumstances in this case, as viewed through Garner, renders the entire issue moot. Danroy Henry was drunk and used his vehicle in a manner similar to that of any other perp with a weapon, and quite frankly, he and his buddy got what they deserved.

You definitely have a point here. It seems like there was a power struggle or flexing of muscles on some level here. We will probably never know the whole story anyway.
I guess there are two lessons to be learned here. 1. Think before you act and 2. when the "boss" gives you an order to do something do it or it could turn around to bite you in the - - - .
We have all done things without thinking and I am sure that the chief in this case is going through the "could have, should have, would haves" right now and wondering how a simple pair of $25 rubber testicles became national news.

I'm the last one to defend politicians, but if our "leaders", in this case a Fire Chief, had some inherent good sense, and a desire to keep his fleet looking crisp and professional, the Mayor would never have needed to become involved, no?

Well, I'm in a Union, a fairly successful one at that, and I think our Union has learned that the first rule of negotiating is never say never. To say there would never be a reason to reopen a contract is extreme. We can all agree there wouldn't be many times the Union would benefit from it, but you really need to keep all options on the table.
And the underlying fact remains is that Unions are democratic organizations. Either way, the leadership of this Union should have put this to a vote of their membership. If the membership voted it down, as the leadership anticipated, so be it. But the decision must be made by the membership, not the hierarchy. This failure to put this matter to a vote tells me, from experience, the leadership was at least somewhat fearful of an outcome they did not want.

My thoughts and prayers are with my brothers and sisters in Newark who have been layed off. I would say that anyone who is not directly involved in the negotiations between the Newark FOP and the city can't fairly place blame in this situation. It's very easy to say " The union should have put the latest offer to a vote " or " why didn't the union make concessions to save those jobs " .. the reality is that union give backs are a slippery slope and when you give in once, the city will ask for it over and over and will sit down at a collective bargaining table and they will lead the negotiations knowing that the union will break. The FOP represents 1,033 cops in Newark and although they have to try to save those 167 jobs, they also have to look out for the good of the countless other members they represent. The city is using the cops as political pawns and it isn't right. Public safety in Newark has always been a problem and being minus 167 cops during the holiday robbery season is a crooks dream.
The union had to play hardball with the city, and now is the time for the ad campaigns and to ratchet up the public pressure which will undoubtedly get some or all of those jobs back.
God Bless all of our brothers and sisters and may they be back at work in no time at all !!

I saw this on the news earlier (forget what station) and they showed some of the laid-off members stopping by a precinct to hand in their guns and shields.
What a crappy situation and right before the holidays no less.
My heart goes out to the NPD members who were laid off and those who will have to work harder to cover the loss.

    My interpretation of this cryptic message;
    He bought this rig.
He's looking for photos and information about the rig when it belonged to Carmel.
Apparently he wants to restore it to what it looked like when Carmel owned it.
Question for the poster: Show us a photograph of what it looks like now, in your possession.
That should clear up whether this a joke or not.

Sorry for jumping in so late in the discussion. but irish fire is right. I was on the job for 34 years and went to schools, seminars, etc. right up to the time I retired. Some of us go to these classes just to get certificates and unfortunately forget the course material in a week or two. On the other hand, you could have irishfire's attitude: Learn it from those who have been there> remember it> and put it in your back pocket because you might need it some time in the future when you least expect it. It should also come out of that back pocket every now and then for a review. Irishfire, Tommy Brennan would be proud of you.
And Barry: Mofire is young. Don't jump on him when he asks a question. All your information is absolutely correct, but as soon as you jumped on his case, you turned him off.
Cids (or whatever you may call buildings' info database) is a very time consuming effort and takes a lot of work by all members of a FD to initiate and then to keep current. Not a knock, but it is something that volunteer FDs just don't have the time or people to devote.
Everyone, paid or vol should find time to do company inspections, at least of your area's target hazards if nothing else. Wouldn't it be nice if your first time in a building is during a company inspection as opposed to 3an on your hands and knees?
And about that back pocket irishfire talked about...It's like a magic pocket. No matter how much "stuff" you put in it, it never gets full.
There...you got my two cents. Take it to heart and it may be worth a lot more to you

Interestingly enough, a similar incident here in Westchester a couple years back for anyone who remembers it. A structure fire in Buchanan on Albany Post Road. At the time, Croton, Montrose, Buchanan, Peekskill, and Garrison, all had similar numbers along their respective stretches of Albany Post Road, and the FD was initially dispatched to the wrong one.

It seems everytime I log onto this website, somebody is going off on some tangent about how much they know about this, that, and the other thing. Everybody needs to be on some foolish power trip. Constructive criticism is a great thing but every topic gets alittle irate! I mean look at you guys, its turning into a science class...lol In my honest opinion, nobody got hurt and all that needs to be said about firefighting is stay in the books, know your operating procedures, know your buildings, get good at reading smoke, and let circumstances dictate procedures!
