I find it pathetic when any municipal or government employee expects preferential treatment. If these are your friends, co-workers or fellow employees why would you expect them to not do their job when you make a mistake? If you get a pass, smile, privately thank the officer and then STFU about it. The more people hear about professional courtesy, the less professional the people involved look. If you get a ticket, smile, thank the officer for doing their job, STFU about it and take your lumps like anyone else.

I am so happy that the truth came out. So often our police officers are falsely accused of wrong doings. Without those cameras, most of us, including myself, would take the word of what we would consider two highly respected and trusted individuals.
A firefighter, especially a fire captain, is expected to do the right thing. He is assigned to set the standards and be a role model to younger firefighters. He is to lead by example.
Firefighters and Police Officers work side by side many times together in life threatening situations. They attend LODD funerals for each other. There is probably no other group of employees that face more danger in our society today as those police officers and firefighters who we all depend on. There is an Unwritten Brotherhood that is shared by each and every one.
As a retired fire officer myself, I find this incident embarrassing to ALL Fire Fighters. One of our Brother Firefighters just dragged ALL of us through the mud. When you wear that badge and uniform, what you do, both on and off duty, represents everyone of us. You are held to a much higher standard than most other citizens.
So if you make your career as a firefighter, remember whether you are in Georgia, New York City or any place else, what you do on or off duty reflects on ALL of Us.
And by the way, for those police officers that are out there "doing it everyday and every night", I have nothing but the highest respect for you. I just Thank the Good Lord you are there.

They probably set relations between their agencies back considerably. I hope they charge them criminally.

Look, as much as no one likes to do EDP calls, it's still not an excuse to delay service. You don't know what can happen in that time. It can go from a "regular" EDP call to them actually hurting themselves or another and it becoming a medical emergency. Time is always of the essence. We shouldn't be regulating which calls to go on just because it's this kind of call or that kind of call. That happens with the FD's and we see how that ends up hurting morale and efficiency.

As a former member of SHAC. I remember when we would do on the average of about 5 mutal aid calls a week. We would jokingly say our motto was have ambulance, will travel. But I see now times have changed. I no longer live in the area for a while now. But to the person who said it was just an EDP. I hope to god your not a member or an EMT of a Amblance Corp, and God help us if you are an officer. That was the most disgusting and unprofessional thing to say.

    Fail.
Then maybe they should hire the other half of the crew. This is ridiculous.

Does anyone know why they would hold onto the call for so long when they couldn't muster a crew?

Just to clarify, this call appears to have occurred after 7:00 p.m., when the career EMT from OVAC had already left, so OVAC isn't really involved in this specific matter.

Could they be getting more involved in EMS, given the crazy number of calls generated by the VA Campus and State Nursing Home on the Campus?
If they were starting to assume the ALS care and transport, it would really reduce the burden on CCVAC and Cortlandt ALS who respond there multiple times every day.

There is something seriously, seriously wrong with a department's safety and training procedures if this many firefighters are getting hurt at every fire, or something else is going on, like union issues.

When you're driving on 9A, Taconic, and other local NYS*DOT roads that aren't getting plowed hours after a storm has begun and are a nightmare, something has to give. The state doesn't want to pay or equip this region to properly plow the roads in a timely manner. If this will help clear them faster, I'm all for it. It could also allow for more equipment to be on the road, allowing plow crews to make more passes. As far as eliminating jobs, the same was said when firefighters were switching from manual pumps to steamers.
This technology, however, has been proven in other states, and was developed primarily in Canada, in regions that get regular snowfall that makes our storms look puny. It's a learning curve for sure, and I hope NYS has done extensive testing before making this purchase. But it's like switching from a rear mount straight stick to a tiller or tower. Two machines that get the same job done, but in different ways.
What I find weird is that the NYS*DOT plows that have wings require a second person to spot and operate the wings, and I think these should have a "wingman" for operating and spotting the tow plow.
Here's another video of tow plows in action:

The Statute itself addresses this only applies in cases where no others require transport. As for your comments regarding who should pay the bill:
Sometimes in emergency services you do the right thing, because it's the right thing to do. And why do you think the handler or the police chief would have any issues regarding providing consent to transport an injured work dog to an appropriate facility. Most of us in law enforcement know that many of these dogs are shot, stabbed and killed every year to avoid sending humans into dangerous situations. Around police departments, these K9's are invaluable and treated as such. If the situation every presents itself, just let them know in advance that you need to know who will be "paying the bill." I'm sure law enforcement will make other arrangements as to not cut into your budget. I've been so lucky to work both as a Paramedic and LEO in agencies that work so well together that these problems would never arise. I'm sorry to hear that's not the case everywhere.
