  1. Paramedic critical after ambulance collides with pickup

    BLOOMINGTON – A Mobile Life paramedic is in critical condition after the ambulance he was driving collided head-on with a pickup truck on Route 32 on Saturday morning.

    The paramedic, whose name has not been released yet, had to be extricated from the ambulance before being airlifted to Albany Medical Center with unknown injuries after the crash, which occurred before 7 a.m. in Bloomington.

    An emergency medical technician riding with him was treated at Kingston Hospital and scheduled to be transported to Albany Medical for more treatment, said Andrew LaMarca, director of development for Mobile Life.

  8. Lomontville firefighter dies when car falls on him

    A former assistant chief of the Lomontville Fire Department was killed Wednesday by a car that fell on him as he worked underneath it.

    Frederick Schussler Jr., 59, was working under the car on his property at 636 Lapla Road in the Marbletown hamlet of Lomontville when the jack holding up the vehicle slipped and the car fell about 11:20 a.m., according to Ulster County Undersheriff Frank Faluotico.

    Schussler was pronounced dead at the scene by Mobile Life paramedics, Faluotico said.

    Fred was a former assistant chief and life member of the Lomontville Fire Department and served on the department’s Board of Commissioners.
