Well stated Al, in addition, it was difficult to deal with the demands and restrictions of the Westchester County Parks Dept.including parking fees and logistics.
Being a SPAAMFAA Chapter has great benefits including muster guidelines, insurance coverage and advertising the event.
As a Past President and a Chairman of the Fairchester Hose Hauler's Muster at Croton Point Park, I would like to offer the following advice for thought:
If you are considering a County Park site (Kensico, etc.) or any site for that matter then it is important that the first Muster be as successful as possible in order to keep the host and attendees enthusiastic and locked in for the future. That being said, I would strongly recommend that the commitee focus on a date for next year. A successful muster takes a lot of logistics planning, equipment and people and cannot be just thrown together by a handful of people in a short time. You want to come into it with your "A" game and plan, thoroughly publicize and execute a memorable event that will make everyone want more.
The Fairchester Hose Haulers Muster was nationally known because it was put on by a group of hard working, dedicated individuals who focused on maintaining high standards that did not erode over time. The only reason it ended was because some members of the core group moved away, others wanted a break and there was no "young blood" willing to do the hard work.

The green Mack is identical to the one the Peekskill Fire Patrol once had called the "Green Hornet" and was once owned by FHHA member Waine Kniffen of Valhalla, NY who showed it at many FHHA musters at Kensico Dam, could it be?

Congratulations on the completed restoration Ed, looking forward to seeing it at the 2013 SPAAMFAA Winter Convention on February 16, 2013 in Jacksonville, Florida.

As a friend of Lt. Sanford for over 40 years, I considered him an international ambassador for the fire service, fire buffs, and antique fire apparatus collectors.
My condolences to Lt. Sanford's brother Hank and family and to all the members of the many organizations which he belonged to.

I always loved these Macks. Some of the places here in FL that had them were Orange County, the City of Hialeah, and Miami-Dade (inherited from a small municipal FD that was merged into M-D). I don't think any are still around.
Phil
The City of Palm Coast, Fl. operates these Macks assigned to it's volunteers.

Actually Howie I remember it in the junk yard on lower south street in Peekskill, just up from Burnwell. If I remember correctly according to my father there was alot of hard feelings when they decided to get rid of it.Guy on the right might be John Kavanna.
husdon, you are right, I remember going there to get door parts for Mohegan's Mack, its twin. I also remember there were lots of hard feelings about its disposal.

thanks tommy
The last time I saw it, it was at a junk yard on the Albany Post Road, Montrose, many years ago.

Former Mohegan E-256 is heading to its original home town, but under new ownership. After faithfully serving the Palm Coast Fl. F.D. for 13 years, it has been purchased by the Mohegan Volunteer Fire Association. I loaded it onto a trailer yesterday and it should arrive in Mohegan tomorrow afternoon.
