  1. I don't believe that you received the right information, there is always the possibility that you spoke to someone "not in the know". Up until 2005, NYS OFPC used to send a printed copy of all FF listed under a certain FDID to that Dept. In 2005, they changed that and sent a CD to the Counties listing all. You can get this from the County FTC, as Shantz stated, you will need to provide the last 4 of your SSN.
  2. Somers currently has 1 Reserve Engine (E-186), it is fully equipped with the exception of defibrillator, TIC and Gas Detector. Whenever a front line Engine goes OOS for more than a day those 3 items are moved over to E-186 to run front line. Being fully eqipped, it also can run as 2nd Due out of Somers House, where it is housed. It still gets a considerable amount of work!
  3. My hard copy came on Monday, I was left off of the e-mail, so the County thought they had notified everyone! Count 2 in from the VA for this class!
  4. I can assure you that all career dept's have NOT been notified of this class as of 1/5. I have not checked the mail today!
  5. SOMERS= 1729. Will provide a break-down shortly. Up 225 calls from 2004.
  6. Ladder 48 will not be a 75' Quint, it will be a 100' Staight Stick. It will go into commitee for specs after the replacement for MA-14 and Eng 188 are completed this year (2006), L-48 should go into committee in 2007. Plans right now are for it to be assigned to Granite Springs and L-18 to be re-assigned to Somers.
  7. As we know Mack was very widely used in Westchester, Seagrave was also very widely used. The most classic fire engine model ever manufactured and the longest run of a model was the Seagrave "70th Anniversary Series". Manufactured between 1951 thru 1970. Pumpers were available in Open Cab, Closed Cab, Canopy Cab, and the famous Sedan. Aerials, Quads, and TDA's were available in Open (3 or 7 man), Canopy (3 or 7 man) and Closed (3 man). Enough history on the vehicle- What departments in Westchester operated these "70's"? I know Somers operated 3 pumpers and 1 pumper/ tanker- The 3 pumpers (Engine Companies 181, 182, and 183) were 750gpm closed cab with 500 gallon booster tanks. Engine 184 was a 750gpm closed cab with 1000 gallon tank, and the first tanker Seagrave built on the "70th" chassis. Also Purchase operated a Quad. I believe Mount Vernon had 1 or 2, also but not sure about- Hastings, Port Chester, Rye?????
  8. Back to the "70th Anniversary Series" and not all the other Seagrave's out there- It is my understanding that a die-cast model company is finally going to produce Somers Engine 182! They came and took over 200 pictures of her back in 2004 for the mold, and fortunitly I have an original Seagrave blue-print drawing of her and her 2 sisters, which also became very valuable in the design phase. I'm not spilling any more beans then that, but it should be released during 2006, for our 75th Anniversary, although probally not in time for our parade in May, but at least by the end of the year!!
  9. MA-28 carries LUKAS hydraulic rescue tools. Rescue 48 has been reserved for the VA, things are in the works for redesignation. More equipment will be needed before the Rescue designation will be implemented. There are currently (2) Ferrara Intruder II-S pumpers on order to replace the current Engine 225 in Montrose and the current 91-11 in Castle Point. The Intruder II-S chassis is essentially the Spartan Advantage chassis. They will have 1500 GPM Waterous pumps with 1000 Gallon booster tanks.
  10. The Montrose VA FD used to operate 2 engines from 1986 until 1998, when MA-28 was delivered and replaced Engine 224 (1970 International/FTI). Long before HazMat 3 there was also a Utility vehicle (a S-10 pick-up with utility body and a "covered wagon" rear) that was used as the HazMat and Confined Space Rescue Vehicle. Don't expect a quint anytime in the near future- it was hard enough getting funding for a regular Class A pumper.

  15. I don't have a green light! Obviously you're not in tuned to what goes on in No Westchester, being from NH. Anyway- I agree it's time for Westchester to have a paid/ career EMS service, but that's another whole story! What I'm getting at it the burden that is continuously being placed on VOLUNTEERS, the "powers" are running volunteers out, with protocols like this. Yes, Tom I've had family members suffer strokes, and I do realize the importance of this, but DOH could have had more hospitals ready to be onboard with this program, or better yet- why doesn't every hospital have this capability? Your right about the patient, thats really what we are here for, however the problem lies in all the other BLS or should I say BS calls, that are ever increasing. People are burning out faster and faster!
  16. Somers- Sunday 10/9
  17. Continental Village Fire Dept protection area covers a piece of the Town of Cortlandt in Westchester and a piece of the Town of Phillipstown in Putnam. Just like Croton Falls covers the Town of North Salem in Westchester and pieces of the Town of Carmel in Putnam. CVVFD is paged out on Putnam frequency, then switches to Westchester if the call is in the Westchester part of their district. Generally, if the call is in Westchester, 60-Control recieves it then calls Putnam 911 either by phone or 45.88 to have them dispatch Continental Village.
  18. I think it's ridiculous for an All Volunteer Corps, that already has about a 2-hour Ambulance call (ie: North Salem, Somers, Lewisboro, Pound Ridge), now has to take even more time away from work, family, dinner, etc. to transport to White Plains Hospital! Hell, I don't even know where WP Hospital is or how to get to it from the North County! I once read an article that the basic jist was- Are we doing any better as EMS is supposedly progressing? Years ago, but not that long ago in some parts of this county, all you needed was a driver and someone with a CPR card, and you did a "scoop and run" to the Hospital. Calls got covered easier, and the overall runtime was shorter. Everytime, something like this comes out- I think are we doing ourselves any good? Or are we just running the volunteer service out of business?
  19. IP is acutually located in the Village of Buchannan, but it's in the Verplanck Fire District. Its another one of those weird unanswered questions that lie in Westchester County!
  20. The new 91-71 has never been lettered!
  21. Yes, White over Red with the "FDNY" stripes, like your "cuz" said. They will have the Dept of Veterans Affairs FD Patch on the doors, with VA Hudson Valley above them. The Engine designations will be on the rear doors, lettered like the 2 Haz-Mat trucks. As a side note- HM-3 will be re-lettered this week to conform with MY (oops- the FDVA's) image. HazMat 91-69 and Ambulance 91-71 will be following right behind.
  22. They have 1 more- the Igniter
  23. Mine doesn't telescope, I just sit it on top of the arrowstick. I turn off every other warning light, so all you see is the green light. It works great. Everyone on the fireground knows exactly where the Command Post is. Friday night, every body who came on the fireground who needed to go to the command post, came right to my car, no one had to ask where it was.
  24. The SOMERS FIRE DISTRICT will "Christen" the following apparatus: ENGINE 185- 2004 KME Preditor 1500gpm Pumper RESCUE 20- 2004 Spartan/ Rescue 1 Heavy Rescue AMBULANCE 80B3- 2004 Ford/ PL Custom Type III Ambulance CAR 2443- 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe Command Vehicle DATE: SATURDAY, AUGUST 27, 2005 TIME: (to be announced) WHERE: Somers Fire Headquarters, 119 Primrose Street (NY Route 139), Lincolndale.
  25. How many of these stations house more than 1 company? Peekskill for example, has 5 stations, that houses 5 companies. If Somers only had 1 company per house, we would have 9 stations! Amawalk- 2 engine companies Granite Springs- 1 engine/ 1 ladder Somers- 2 engine companies Lincolndale- 1 engine/ 1 rescue/ EMS
