I agree except when you're first on scene. You gotta block it even if only temporarily until other vehicles arrive. To pull past the accident and leave all the lights flashing past the scene creates a great environment for a mishap.

Won't matter in westchester given the average bls ambulance response time. You're guaranteed an anoxic injury.

Empress is not a UASI partner nor did they contribute any funding for the project. Why should their patch be on it?
No disrespect to Empress but they're a contractor. The contract could change and it could be somebody else providing Yonkers with 911 EMS. It used to change often, hence the term velcro patches.

Sometimes having people that are not FF is better than having a guy with preconceived ideas or who thinks they know better than the chief. In cases where the commish is not an FF, they should be advised by the chief of department who should be the subject matter expert on the fire service.
The board should consider the needs of the department and the demands of the taxpayers and choose the best course of action with both in mind.

My understanding is that over the past few years this group has had something like 40 of their rice rockets impounded and numerous arrests made. The instigator of the road rage incident was driving on a suspended license.
As "10512" wrote, these punks rarely stop for police. They'll take off between cars, down sidewalks, through yards, etc. They know that department policy is not to pursue for traffic violations.
Personally, if I had been the driver of the SUV, I might still have been beaten up, but the ricers would have had to climb over the bodies of 15 of their pals to get to me. That's all the ammunition I carry.

They keep raising the parkway and it keeps sinking. The material under the parkway can't handle the weight in that area. The water will always win. Pilings need to be driven into the ground for a causeway so the water can stay under the parkway. The State will never go for it because it is expensive.
That's not the only road in the area that needs work. The infrastructure around here is old.

How about 3ft instead of 3 in'' !
  10. velcroMedic1987 liked a post in a topic by WAS967 in Actual EMS Arrival Time: How Should It Be Measured?
Curb time and contact time should indeed be separate data points and monitored separately. Just like dispatch time and responding times should be monitored separately. Just because a unit has been dispatched doesn't mean they are responding (don't we all wish). Chute times are important to track as well. Some agencies also track times on scene and with over a certain time on scene (20 minutes perhaps?) you have to document a reason for the delay.

The fact is all times should be measured as they all have statistical significance in evaluating performance of the various components of the system.

Exactly the point that I was trying to make, and some missed it.
Would you let yourself be served at a restaurant by someone that dressed like a homeless bum? No, there is a reason for clean and professional looking uniforms.

No but the family of the person who is cardiac arrest might. And given that survival rates for cardiac arrest are not great (getting better). Looking and acting like a professional regardless of compensation goes along way in the overall delivery of care to both the patient and family

You have to operate professionally to be considered professional. I hardly consider all the sloppy EMT's and paramedics I see professional and it doesn't matter whether they collect a paycheck or not.

Who cares? Nobody pays any attention to lights anyway. We have effectively dulled the publics sensitivity to them by adding them to every vehicle on the planet. Tow trucks, HELP trucks, funeral vehicles, service trucks, utility trucks, school buses, jolly vollies, and authorized emergency vehicles. You go blind driving through a scene at night these days.
Go back to the Smokey and the bandit bubble light for all I care!

NYPD is a NYC agency. The vehicel and traffic law is a State Law. If they were going to follow anyone, they'd follow the State Police, not the NYPD (no offense).
Is your point that you want front facing blue lights or what?

I always thought it must be embarrassing to be stopped a red light with a with a blue light flashing on my car.

It took the NYPD a while to go with the blue lights even after they were authorized. I hope no one is following NYPD. The NYPD finally phased out typewriters only about 5 years ago.
Any existing law can be changed. It probably has more to do with tradition than anything else
    .
On a related note, some of these vehicles that can be seen a mile away actually can cause problems. They can be so bright, that you cannot see anything other than the light. The lights can wash out anything in the area. You may see the light, but you are not going to see the cop standing next to the radio car, or debris in the roadway, or anything else. Some are a bit too much. Sort of too much of a good thing.
