  1. Are the facts know on if braking down the door had anything to do with the loss of life or are we just making a 1000 replys posts on the subject.

Did the house have working smoke detectors? Was it up to standards? A few years ago my son and his room mates were looking for off campus housing at Marist. I took one look at the structure and found it a death trap in waiting. Needless to say they did not move in. Get the facts let's not Monday morning quarterback. A sad day for Marist and the brothers at FFD.

  2. But they didn't so lets not speculate on the "what ifs". The fact is that some agencies, including my own were wading through stagnant, ankle deep water and putting people who had PLENTY of advanced warning on these inflatable boats so that they wouldn't get their feet wet and boasting on how many "water rescues" they pulled off.

I have no issues with evacuating folks, even the idiots that should have left on their own while the earth was still dry. My thing is why treat these people as if they would melt if they touch the water? I'd would have them walk out of the house on their own and purposely make them get wet. Perhaps then it would serve as a lesson to them to heed the warnings and to not tie up resources with nonsense.

Rescues and removals are like apples and oranges. Far from semantics. Lets not cheapen the heroics of some brothers by trying to stretch the truth.

Boy what moxie. Then why did the white water rafters go into the river ? They put the rescuers at risk. I see no post by the FD that they were making rescues along the Saw Mill.

That's no bull. In upstate NY the county declared a ban on boating during the storm. Maybe Westchester should take a cue from Broome county. Some people have too much to say and should refrain from posting until they count to 10.

  3. Sarcasm: a mode of satirical wit depending for its effect on bitter, caustic, and often ironic language that is usually directed against an individual.

My understanding is 97% of the 911 calls in the Town go to PD, that has to transfer the call to FD. How much time is getting saved in "self dispatching".

The vast majority of FIRE calls come via 7 digit emergency number. You have no idea how it works.

  4. As one who experienced the third party dispatch there was delays in dispatching, lack of local knowledge to name a few. It comes down to time the more people handling the call the delay in response. County dispatching did improve response for those agencies who had a mismatch of call taking from a answering service in White Plains who would dispatch for a local dept or Police setting off siren and waiting for FD to respond and then tone out. I'm sure this will draw a heated debate.

  5. Here is the Consolidation Minority Report, which Supervisor Feiner doesn't want you to see (in .PDF format).

Sorry, I am unable to convert this PDF to text.

The minority report is just the tip of the iceberg. Nothing is mentioned about the fire protection districts. If there is to be a "Greenburgh Fire District" it should encompass all the areas in the Town, the same area covered by the Police Dept.
