6 years ago I wrote that what it would take is either a major disaster or the state forcing the issue.
Well the state has given us a tax cap, which is forcing almost everyone at a minimum to consider how it spends its money. I know of a dozen depts that are already cutting back. A few considering cutting manning. In the past year 2 depts had lay offs, another had threats of it. We have combo depts. that have zero volunteers, but think they can cover the town with 2 or 3 career members.
We have publicly seen depts. lose homes because they can not put a team on the field, others because they can not find the hydrant, others who have lose members because they did not want to train and follow OSHA laws. We have a local fire district that want to build new stations, after the public has said no, and the dept has no plan to staff the house. A few weeks ago I was at a town council meeting and the FD "leadership" stated: "we know we suck, but as long as the public does not know, it fine"....
Last week at a county fire marshals training class 4 different fire inspectors from 4 different towns asked: "what should the town do when the FD can not get a rig out the door or even 1 member to respond to a fire alarm"?
This is not an attack on firefighters, officers, volunteers, career, commissioners. It is an attack on a system that is a total failure. Yes there are some great depts here...but if you average them out county wide the numbers suck.
We have hit the iceburg, we all know there are not enought lifeboats but instead of working to save what we can, we would rather go down with the ship.

DaRock98 liked a post in a topic by JJB531 in Fire Service Leadership Behavior On Social Media
I think the simple fact is that anyone in emergency services, whether you want to be or not, is a representative of his/her agency. Conduct that is unprofessional and immature not only makes you look foolish, but reflects negatively upon your agency and the emergency service community as a whole. An individual who is a Chief or other supervisory figure in his/her agency should absolutely be held to a higher standard, since they are expected to be the utmost professional and possess the qualities of a mature and professional leader. When I see individuals exhibiting childish and unprofessional behavior, it makes me second guess their abilities as a leader. We dont have to act like professional robots all of the time; we are all human. But unprofessional conduct when it applies to situations involving conflict resolution, or improper conduct that can be viewed by the public or those outside our little world, is inexcusable if you want to be taken seriously as a competent leader.

Hawthorne and Elmsford have a dual response to all of the buildings in the Landmark area along with the Home Depot on 9A.
Hawthorne also runs dual response with Valhalla weekdays from 6am-6pm for all calls that may be structure related. (IE: possible structure fires, inside smoke/gas calls of that nature) and the same for the parkways(Sprain/Taconic) calls reported extrication and car fires.
Hawthorne and Thornwood also run dual response on the Saw Mill Parkway for MVAs/ car fires.

You're young, so I'll give you the benefit of the doubt. Generally speaking, a smoking pile of debris 6 hours later does not count as a nice knock down or good job. Unless you're talking about the excavator that was used for overhaul, that did a good job knocking down what remained of the structure.

Agreed, they had 1 (or was it 2) "REKINDELS"....WTF. There is no such thing as a rekindle. You have one of 3 choices:
1) you left the scene without putting it out (i.e. failure to overhaul) after declaring it out.
2) the arsonest came back and started another fire
3) you left the scene without putting it out, but left a fire watch (to maintain possesion of the scene) and you determined that it was still burning but posed no threat to exposures, and you would be unable to extingush it till later (like after heavy equipment was brought in to open it up and due to cold your crews were rehabed).
The fire didn't just "re-start on its own"
We need to stop using that term, it just makes the fire service look foolish.
