Good luck! I like to see departments donating their trucks to departments in need HERE instead of other countries.

I would say, let the district fix the problems and move forward from this issue.

That all depends, if the Department is from Westchester, Rockland, Putnum, or Dutchess. It is considered bashing. But if the Department is from outside those counties it is considered need to ask that question.

Well, given some responses on quasi-related posts, it doesn't really matter. If a department says they "need" it, then they "need" it, right? Doesn't matter what unbiased, independant observers say, does it?

I disagree here. First off, going from Michigan to Wappingers is hardly a "free trip across the country that anyone would want to do." It's a 13 hour trip in a large truck and when you get there, plan on sleeping in a cheap motel, eating Denny's and working 18 hour days in the tree and snow covered roads and rights of way that accompany power outages. Second, they do not get paid way more than those in the fire service, unless of course you include volunteers.

Thanks - thats clears it all up. My bad.

While I agree...this may be a great time to look at the big picture...New Hamburg is literally right down the street with a badass tower ladder....Hughsonville is not far with another tower ladder....PECO is a bit further with a quint/stick....Rombout is further yet, but still closer than most with another tower ladder...and then there is Croft with a stick....let's face it - southern Dutchess is nicely covered with truck companies.
While it is needed, is it really NEEDED?
Don't get me wrong - I know a bunch of guys from Wappingers - and they are among the finest to serve. Some truly great firemen come from down there.

What is sad is that it is guys like Nick that are the best hope for VFDs like Irvington but they keep driving the good guys away. Whata shame.

Dan, I caught this today crossing Mill @ Catherine. The answer to who cares? They had a Sanford and Son packed with enough lights to make the biggest volly jealous and shot across three lanes of high speed traffic, and for what? It's unfortunate that someone died but there's no hurry, that situation isn't changing, and it's wrong to risk putting other people in said hearse over it.

Nicoli's decisions have left his home community with 1 less life-saver. For those of you that don't know, he has been awarded numerous life saving awards as well as a congressional level award from Congresswoman Dr. Nan Hayworth last month. It is unfortunate that internal FD politics have resulted in his decision to no longer be a firefighter.
I don't think my own community as a whole is aware of the separation between the the company and the district functions, as mirrored in one of the comments above. I certainly did not understand this for several years after becoming a FF/EMT.
When we hold fundraising events such as a "boot drive", we get dressed in our PPE and hold out fire boots for motorists to donate money to our cause.... "OUR CAUSE?" Unless they have a personal connection to the FD, I doubt that any significant percentage of the donators understand that this $ is NOT going towards training, equipment or operational readiness. This is straight up false advertising. And I am personally sickened by it. I've told my friends and family that donated money annually to the fire dept through the companies annual fund drive, to stop.
I have witnessed repeatedly over the years, tens of thousands of dollars getting spent by my company on parades, annual dinners, installation dinners, christmas parties, etc... And simultaneously get turned down for much needed equipment and stonewalled on training funds by the fire commission. Although these are two separate entities, there seems to be something very very wrong with this. I did not join the FD to drink beer either. I did not join to go to parades.
Ask yourselves: are you going through more cans of ZEP and tubs of turtle wax than saw blades and saw fuel? Our pride should not come from how shiney and clean our trucks are, but rather how dirty and trashed our gear is from having training with it so much. I believe that if we prioritize the trophies that go in a glass case over what we actually signed up to do, we are more likely to end up in a pine box.

She was armed...with the vehicle, dangerous instrument as per the NYS penal law. Some in the press have left out that she was in a stolen car that was reported as carjacked, and also she apparently had priors for kidnapping and attempted murder. Not a babe in the woods here it seems.
Have any media outlets posted the deceased's communion photo yet?

I feel bad for this cop, he is going to be persecuted by the animals he protects day in and day out from this animal he was forced to protect himself from. Just like that other Brother in the Bronx, he was in a life or death situation too. When someone runs from the police they are just plain old bad! This isnt 1995 anymore where you can run as a kid from the police, you must respect the order and follow it, when you don't you send a big red flag up to the cops. Look at that dope from New Rochelle that ran because he stole some tires. Guy kills his own brother and now is going to prison instead of Valhalla for a week or two.
If you bring this up to anyone who is anti-cop they will immediately blame the police, but why do they not bring up the fact that this criminal was putting the lives of everyone in danger with her actions? I just hope the Brooklyn DA's office is not as anti-cop as the Bronx, which if I was on that side of the fence I would not do a damn thing for them.
    Rant over!
  19. Danger liked a post in a topic by spin_the_wheel in FD Chief Computers..Is this OK?
Im speaking in general....this whole post is about what the public sees......the average person is not walking down the street looking in police or fire vehicle windows. Was the screen that glaring that it stood out? Maybe but most of the time the computer screens are not that big and are angled towards the driver..the Left side of the car...someone walking on the sidewalk..the right side..would have to be going out of his way to look for that, or care about whats on the screen. Most have screen savers as well..so it will go black in time. But as stated above close the screen and thats that.

Honestly, I hate it. The recent topics page is full of crap with very little relevant information on it. The most active discussions in the past few days have been about why cops shouldn't help firefighters and vice versa.
Since tactical discussions are nonexistant on this forum anymore (mostly because every single one turns into a career vs. vollie thread) I pretty much use this site to see whats going on in the world via Incident Alerts and photos. Now IA's arent on the Recent Topics thread and nobody posts photos because they get picked to death from the Monday Morning QBs. Hence why most of the quality posters on this site have moved on or no longer post. This site needs to go back to its roots.

Most of you seem to be missing the fact the not enough qualified personal were at the scene forcing the ic to use non fire dept personal to do fire dept functions. This lack of qualified personal is a huge problem in the fire service today. Non fire dept personal should not be used period, put enough players on the field or dont call yourself a "team".
