  1. 1,000 PSI that is insane, what kind of hose do you flow that pressure through?? Who can hold the nozel at that pressure too?
  2. I am not a career but I would like to see a voli engine like this too. Hell how many times do you actually pack up. Maybe 20 or 30 times a year, taking in the CO alarms, car fires, and those calls for heavy smoke. Granted we don't ride in the trucks all day unless its a bad storm and were bouncing from call to call.
  3. I am in a medic program down in the city, and it seems that they pronounce more in the city then in westchester. Granted the call volume is nothing the same. But if the ambulance pulled up with the fly-car for the same job just put it in the northern westchester region we would do cpr and a full code? Why is this? Is it because of the volies? Why won't the medic get online with med control and call it?? I have been on a few jobs where I have asked the medic to call it and they just start working it. Could it be that alot of the medics in the city are just over worked too??
  4. NO!! Diversion is a curtesy not to go there. Its really gray. But if you have a hospital that is 5 minutes out on diversion and the next hospital is 30 minutes out with a life threating or critical patient. They can't turn you away. Granted if it was a cpr job and i had a medic i think we would try to go somewhere else or get the pronouce on the scene if possible.
  5. it seems a little too comercial and way off the beatin path that it has once taken.
  6. Oh manholes i forgot, how many manhole explosions does FDNY do? I know they do a few. But that would be something we would have to babysit to instead of the wires down. I think its a little worse then wires down.
  7. Its not a bad idea but will they do the same amount of maintance as they do now on the over head lines? There is no one maintaining this stuff. I rarely see crews in my neck of the woods taking care of things unless something happens then it takes 4-6hrs or 2-5 days depending on what happened. Does anyone else see them doing maintance on the lines?
  8. Why do you run into burning buildings when everyone else is running out? This has to be one of the hardest questions for any person to answer. Why do we do what we do?? Well most people will tell you they do it because they enjoy doing it, like the rush of the action, or just like the challenges that come along with it. But me personally I have no clue why, but I am drawn to it. It might have something to do with me being in a bad car accident when I was a teenager and feel like repaying and helping the community that helped me. I was the first one in my family to join the volunteer department, then my father, my mother and then finally my younger brother. Now it has become something of a family thing. I have asked them this question when they joined my father said the typical father thing “he is not going in with out me”. When I asked my mother (she is just an emt) “You and dad are having fun, and it looks like fun too”. When I asked my brother he said “why not, I am not going to be the odd one out”. Granted my family is really close. But I can’t explain why they all joined or even figure it out. But what I do find amazing is how great everyone in my department works and plays together. Its like we were all made to be together by some unknown bond. I am sorry if this sounds really vague or an unclear answer but it is. Brian Fleming “Moose” Armonk FD
  9. I think this would be a good system for FDNY to have especially looking back on 9-11 when the marine units were pumping straight to engine and the ladder trucks. I know the "fire fighter" has a pumping capacity of some were around 20,000 gpms or more. If they can tie the hose into the boats some how it would an incredible assest to the port of new york and surrounding areas.
  10. I remeber reading once, I forgot where, that places in Texas has Large portable water mains. The departments that had these were close to the oil refineries, to supply large amounts of water in case of a fire took over the plant. It only makes sense that it would be used for an extremely large incident to use such a LDH. I am sure there are some other situations too where it can be usefull when the time comes I just hope I am not the one to pack it all back up again. I found there website Schooley's Mountain Fire Company
  11. well that is one of the reason we built a new building because it would be too much to bring the old one up to code if we did renavations. We have an elevator to the second floor. All the bathrooms are handicap access and the showers in the locker room are also handicap too. Its a public building bonded by the taxs payers.
  12. Its kinda hard sometimes but i found once that if the pt is in full restrants and needs to pee. (pt also knows ems is not bad guys) and Preby refused to let him off to use the head.... Well lets say he didn't get anything on the strecher but the wall was going to look intresting.... lets just say they let him off REALLY fast that time.
  13. Thank the Lord Now I can report some facilities when doing interfaciltity tranport. Watch out New York Presby Phyic in White Plains I am not waiting for 4 hours anymore!!! DAM I just saw the top of the email its for Delaware...... When is New York going to do something like this does anyone know?
  14. I know in the CEVO and EVOC class the strong urge you not to carry anyone other then responders of the agency and medic units that you will work with.
  15. Actually you are allowed to know it. If you want you can look-up there weather reports and find there last positions. Ship usually transmit weather reports ever 12 hours unless they are in heavy weather then it increases to every 6 hours or less. If you go here you can look up every ship in the world that is sailing. Sail WX Reports But this is only for vessels over 150 Gross Tons that are mandated by the IMO to report. (International Maritime Organization which is a part of the UN)
  16. Well I think they thought about the lifeguard thing Lifegaurd use
  17. If this is what your doing talk to the chief of Rye FD. Its a media thing I am sure there is something they can do. I can't say what you will do or not do but I am sure they will be willing to help out.
  18. Yes Finaly we have switched as of May 1st to deing dispatched by 60 control. In the past we have had issues with the old system, one of the major improvements is that we are now getting dispatched at the same time as ALS. Before we were runing blind not always knowing if ALS was called out and usually called out up to more then 10 minutes after they hit our tones.
  19. I have used them on a bi-lat femar frac once but that was it. Worked out great, just didn't inflate the abdomin part of the pants.
  20. Sorry ALS I thought that the glucometer was apart of the new stroke protcalls so that you can alert a stroke center and rule out the possiblity of low sugar. Sorry that I was being a little vague on it. But I do agree nothing bets a full assesent on the patient and to trust what the patient tells you.
  21. we were about to be one of the first ambulances with a glucometer but we have been held up by REMSCO... at least thats what I have been told. It will be a nice tool especially with the new protcalls for stroke patients.
  22. The drill was an plane down on the airport. A plow truck with some large black drainage pipe all around. The drill it self went ok I think, but there seemed to be a communication gap between what happened and discussed at the table top and the lack of info to the actuall people that were there that day. It wasn't a big gap but i would have liked to know what some things were suppose to be. Like some of the black piping that was laying every where. I assume it was wreckage but not sure what type (burning, smuldering, twisted...) Being on the ems side was intresting. Big lack of safety officer on scene, seemed to be little or no coms between fire and ems, when some water ran right through the tarps for red, yellow, and green. After the drill I heard it was Hot JP5 mix with foam. If so alot of patients and emts and other staff then needed to be decon. about 20 or so from from my guess. There were also some small other things that need to be at least talked about and learned but that is for the debrief. Agencies involved I am sorry if I leave anyone out but I am taking this from memory. Fire: ARFF both trucks from the airport, Armonk, Purchase, and Port Chester EMS: Armonk 2 buses, Harrision VAC 1 bus I think 1 flycar, Port Chester/Rye VAC (I think one bus) , Greenwich EMS one bus?, Transcare 1 bus 1 flycar, WEMS 2 buses 1 flycar, and Chappaqua VAC one bus, Not sure on Valhala VAC
  23. No No you guys got it all wrong its 4032. Its now for the long distant transports, so now instead of 14 hrs to DC and back its more like 30 minutes with 10 minutes to dodge the SAMs prior to landing in DC.
  24. I haven't encountered a fire with one of these but the restuarants have to pay a pretty penny to have one. They have to pay for the disposal of the used oil. I have seem them before and seem pretty safe with weighted steel lids. I think it would be hard to have a fire in one unless someone set it because the fire point is a high temp.
  25. Armonk 684 for MVA or Medical call 1st due Ambulance 2nd due Ambulance can roll before the engine some times but that is at the OIC decsion. Engine/Rescue 288 Then Tanker 9 for road block if needed. For a car/truck fire Engine/Rescue 288 Tanker 9 Engine 286
