  1. simple the county won't step in that is half the problem with the home rule state. It takes for over to set up policy that affect every department on the ems side. look at the policy on EMDing that the county ems council came out with... they were trying to get the number of 911 answers sites down, now if its a stubbed toe and its not EMD a medic goes.
  2. yes but calls at HPN are always late. it seems by the times all the tones drop the aircraft is on the ground and ground ops had deemed it safe and calls everyone off.
  3. just wondering what is the average national response time for an ambulance? i know in some areas, 13 minutes is fast. I heard there is a lawsuit against the FDNY because it took an ambulance 8 minutes to get on scene... is it me or are those times good for a response?
  4. no but a change in the uniform would be nice when its above 90 black boots dark pants and dark shirts are just asking for trouble. a change to a light colored polo would be nice
  5. why would the transport time matter if its going to bring the patient to the correct facility, when that said patient is stable. Yes when the patient is unstable and with out a good airway go to the closet place you can. And life net is also a good resource to close that time when available. Be the patient, think if they were your mother or father or close loved one where would you want them to go when they are stable and able to make the trip... majority of our patients are stable enough to endure a 30 to 45 min transport time if it means they go to a cath lab or OR in minutes on arrival to said higher care facility.
  6. its a great article and hits the problems right on the head. I sent a minor head lacerations BLS to the medical center because it was the weekend and i know that the plastic surgeon wasn't going to come in on a weekend to see a 10 year old girl so the scar could be small... and they went to the local level 4 hospital anyway because it was a closer transport time.... and the family wanted her to see a surgeon at least.
  7. I can't see why not but the only trouble you might have is at FDNY. They do have a physical training part of the classes
  8. The northern part of the county has many many issues.... and the southern part will pick up the weight and respond once the north is overwhelmed. It has happened in the past. One of the biggest problem is there is no EMS command... fire command takes the role of ems command, and only a very small few fire departments have ambulances and know what needs to get done. It would be nice is the EMS version of the battalions could take command at an MCI.
  9. I tried to get my HAIX resoled in mt kisco, yes there is a cobbler in mt kisco i think one of the last ones... and he does GREAT work too he has brought life back into my boots so many times. but the HAIX sole is sold and told me he would have to glue a new one on and it won't last as long...
  10. i wear Danners majority of the time but when it gets cold i pull out my HAIX boots to keep the toes warm. I do not get steel toes any more one because i have problems with my toes the other my feet never stay warm once that steel gets cold. But here are the Danners I wear and love them http://www.danner.com/boots/strikertm-ii-emstm-side-zip-non-metallic-safety-toe-uniform-boots.html
  11. what does a vehicle data recorder detail? i know on a ship and plane they record EVERYTHING microphones EVERYWHERE along with ALL DATA. aka Radars Engine speed and conditions. and in some video too.
  12. they have some in New Jersey too i wish i had pics of them but i dont they are at the Military Sealift Command fire training centrer
  13. pack it tight they can move alot. fill in the gaps and stuff. if your putting it on a ship make sure its a really really good packing job. the gantry cranes move them very fast about 1 a minute or so. they load and unload a ship in less then 12 hrs or so. also inspect the container. it sounds funny but lock your self in. if you see light you will get some water in it.
  14. wow can you imagine the possibilities of out sourcing dispatch centers... lol
  15. tighten that belt up Obama is in and its going to get worse. look at the towns lewisboro just about butchered there police department i heard there is only one car on the road now. The next four years are going to get tight i hate to say it.
  16. it sucks but i don't think its going to stop. i wish it would but with the administration that is in office there policy is to cut the budget and increase the time you can be on unemployment...
  17. well the good news is that it from the marine predictions the barometer isn't going to drop bellow 1000mb Sandy hit at 938mb http://weather.noaa.gov/fax/marsh.shtml
  18. why can't a fire police help... this is and still going on national disaster and why can't a fire department be sent to open a road with down trees to the best of there abilities minding if wires are involved. It would have helped ALOT. just so that at least the largest engine/tanker could make it down that road in case there was a real need later to go down it. I am not say take jobs away from the highway. but open it so a truck can go through?
  19. that sucks for the ship's crew it was there crane.
  20. The same reason why NY Maritime's college Training Ship Empire State was sent to New Orleans for Kitrina its a floating hotel and can provide massive amounts of fresh water and power to the shore if needed. not as much as a carrier can but it can help a little.
  21. just wondering whats 7605 used for?
  22. its a very nice boat.. whalers are right up there next to the ribs. you can't sink them. what are they doing with the old one? I might be interested and i know people that are
  23. yes there is nothing emd can do about not getting transport. but hopefully it will reduce the amount of times ALS is sent to a true and solid BLS call that comes in. like the EDP that hasn't taken drugs or OD on something but needs txp to the hospital
