FDNY 10-75 liked a post in a topic by INIT915 in Youtube Video Of A Subject Refusing To Comply With NYSP Troopers In Montrose
Well, I relistened and all I hear is the recorder say "I can record" and the Trooper appears to say "You can" or possibly "Yes, you can." The Trooper doesn't appear to say anything directing him not to record, nor does he even engage him in any conversation, so.... There is no indication the Trooper said or took any action precluding recording. The Trooper is even walking away from the guy recording as he passes him.
I'm not sure why some people go out of their way to assume the cops are wrong, when there is no evidence to substantiate that, and even in this case evidence to the contrary.
Unreal.

By the book in my eyes. These officers showed great professionalism and restraint with this subject, who was given every opportunity to comply before it escalated to the next level.

I had to start the cabinets all over again. The completed assembly was too short. This time, I used .005 styrene overlaid on .02 ABS, then sanded it out. I want this rig to look "beat up" rather than factory fresh, and I remember the real one was practically falling apart by the time it was retired. It, and its two sisters, were worked very hard during a time when Yonkers was broke.
Anyway, I made a lot of headway on the trailer. The tillermans's gondola needs some work, these rigs had open ground ladder cribs rather than the continuous deck on the Code 3 version.

FDNY 10-75 liked a post in a topic by x635 in An In-Depth Look - Stamford's New Engine 8
This thread is about Stamford Fire-Rescue's new Engine 8, a 2014 KME with a 1500 GPM pump, a 1,000 gallon tank, and 30 gallon foam tank. They operate out of a temporary station next to Stamford EMS Station 4 on Vine Rd near High Ridge Road. It covers the northern part of the city, specifically the High Ridge and Turn Of River sections. They cover urban, suburban, and rural sections of the city In addition, they cover the Merritt Parkway. A large part of their district is unhydranted. The company, Engine 8, was put into service in July of 2008 to cover the Turn Of River Volunteer fire department district. It is always staffed by 1 Officer, One Firefighter/Apparatus Operator, and one Firefighter. When staffing levels allow, a fourth crew member is also added. All members are part of IAFF Local 786.The company nick name is "Ridge Runners - 8 Ball Express"
Stamford Fire-Rescue's entire district is diverse, as they cover multiple high rises, commercial, industrial, and transit infrastructure, including a major interstate, I-95, the Merritt Parkway, a large Metro-North Commuter Railroad maintenance yard. There are large hospitals, office buildings, and large scale residential developments. They also cover a large suburban section, as well as some very rural area with very large and valuable real estate and huge areas of brush with limited access.
The career firefighters of Local 786 staff 9 Engine companies, 3 truck companies, 1 heavy rescue company, and 1 shift commander. A Fire Lieutenant also is a coordinator in the city's consolidated 911 communications center. This adds up to a minimum of 52 firefighters a shift. A Hazmat company and Hazmat support vehicles are cross staffed.
The KME Severe-Service Predator type chassis was specified and chosen for the terrain, roads, and structures it covers.
I'd really like to thank Captain Matt Palmer, one of my favorite fire captains, for taking the time to give me a complete in depth tour of the new KME. I do want to apologize, as the photos didn't turn out as nice as I wanted them to, but hope everyone still enjoys them and can see all the neat specs.
For comparison to the new Engine 8, here's the FORMER Engine 8, a 2005 HME.
And here we go with the NEW engine......

Coming along nicely. Next step is to break down the trailer and put in the compartments.
That crappy Code 3 was good for something after all.

Many fire departments could sell off at least one engine and NEVER notice the difference. Dept near me with five guys on duty. They have FOUR engines and a quint. WASTE OF TAXPAYER money. Plain and simple. I commend Hawthorne for downsizing a bit.

FDNY 10-75 liked a post in a topic by INIT915 in NYPD Choke Hold Conterversy
First, let me say, I am not commenting on this specific case, rather in generalities which have a connection to this case.
Medical Examiner determinations are very different from legal/police definitions.
Medical Examiners generally have five classifications (there is a sixth in New York City).
Natural
Suicide
Homicide
Accident
Undetermined (Rarely used when none of four above can truly be determined, despite all best efforts)
(NYC Only: Complication of Therapeutic or Diagnostic Procedures)
Homicide from a Medical Examiners perspective means ‘‘occurs when death results from...’’ an injury or poisoning or
from ‘‘...a volitional act committed by another person to cause fear, harm, or death. Intent to cause death is a common element but is not required for classification as homicide.’’ It merely means the death was caused by another person. Not all deaths caused by another person meet the legal/penal law definition of homicide. Here is the perfect example. A guy breaks into your house and you shoot him dead. The Medical Examiner classification for that is homicide, as it was caused by another person (you). However, from a legal perspective, you had the law on you side and you committed no legal violation whatsoever. The two areas are often conflated, but they are essentially only tangentially related. Another interesting exception exists with DWI fatalities. But that's another story. -

Los Angeles CITY FD
Rescue Ambulance 51

Rescue 51 is dedicated to Los Angeles International Airport, and is the only lime ambulance in the fleet. It is identical to all LA City FD red front line ambulances with the exception of the color. It's associated engine company, a Seagrave, is also lime.
Perhaps one of my favorite ambulances out there, as well as one of my most favorite photos I've taken. On a wierd side note, I had no recollection whatsoever of where and when I took this photo, and it was quite a surprise when I downloaded it a couple of weeks ago!
Photos by me a couple of months ago. And if you're interested in California apparatus, be sure to check out EMTBravoWest.com

FDNY 10-75 liked a post in a topic by x635 in Are Citizens With Cell Phone Videos Interfering With Law Enforcement Doing Their Jobs?
I've been reading a few articles around the internet regarding citizens filming arrests and other police activity, and posting it on the web, and then those videos going viral. We've all seen what's been going on with NYPD.
Some of these citizens who are taking the video get really aggressive in getting the video, while the subjects involved often play it up for the camera. A lot of the subjects think that the video of them being arrested is going to be a golden ticket. Some even try and provoke officers to get involved in a physical altercation.
Another side of the issue is that some people, and some media, edit the video, so you don't see what led up to the officers actions, and the video becomes viral without the whole picture.
At what point do the people taking the video becoming an obstruction? Are their laws that could be enacted to try and control this type of behavior, without infringing on peoples rights? I mean, there are some videos that are destroying the careers of Police Officers who have had flawless careers and that cell phone camera gets that "1% of the time" shot that goes viral, and there goes that officers career. Should that depend on a video, and what steps are taken to get the complete and truthful story on what happened?
What do you think of all this?

FDNY 10-75 liked a post in a topic by x635 in Ambulance - Half A Crew
Several VAC's in Westchester (and Putnam and Dutchess too?) have an paid EMT to help cover calls. I've been listening to my scanner, and several agencies still have trouble getting crews. Why not just hire another paid EMT so you have a full crew? What is the point of one EMT when you have to page multiple times for another EMT or Driver and not get one?

Campbell Hall (Orange Co.) took delivery of their new rescue earlier this week. It's built by UST Fire Apparatus (formerly US Tanker) on a four-door International TerraStar chassis.
Production has started on the following: Kenworth/Pierce tanker for Goshen (Orange) and Seagrave engines for Bedford Hills (Westchester) and Tallman (Rockland).
Delivery for Maybrook's new engine has been pushed back to November, and Washington Heights' Freightliner/Ferrara medium rescue is due in mid-October.
Sparrowbush (Orange) seeking bids again for a new pumper-tanker.
That's about all I have. Anyone else have any further updates? Have not heard who Pine Bush went with for an engine, or if an order has even been placed yet.

But the Mayor fails to acknowledge that the majority of members who are out sick are out on service connected injuries or illness due to exposure from documented contamination in the fire stations.
Understaffing is the leading cause of service connected injuries.

"A group of firefighters attempted to enter the house but were forced to turn back because the heat was so intense. Steltz called it the hottest fire he has ever experienced. “There was a lot of heat, a lot more fire than usual,” he said. No one was hurt. Residents Anne Impellizzeri and Dan Wright escaped injury but lost all their possessions."
I love creative writing!
"A group of firefighters attempted to enter the house but were forced to turn back because the heat was so intense."
Surround and Drown! "Steltz called it the hottest fire he has ever experienced."
And the only fire he has ever experienced! (and yes I read that he was a past chief - still a possibility!) "No one was hurt. Residents Anne Impellizzeri and Dan Wright escaped injury but lost all their possessions."
The building was unoccupied upon arrival - No risk of life present! This is bullshit...you can twist anything to make it worthy of publishing!

Your blatant ignorance is what made you think it was a bash at volunteers. When many of us are at work we don't have the leisure of logging on to a website to answer some idiot on a computer. I volunteer as well, I volunteer with many many many great aggressive people. If someone asked them what they did for a living and they responded I am a firefighter I would always ask where did you get hired. Too many people use the title with out earning it. I sat in an academy for 14 weeks breaking my a$$ for my title. I didn't apply for a job at the town hall and get hired because I took FF 1 and 2 which has no comparison to the required amount of training for a professional firefighter.
How is that answer? Not that I felt I needed to answer some guy who feels the title of ex-captain is deserving of anything and I always see the lic plates and laugh.

In regards to these issues, I've often been tempted to call up the BEMS reps for my area and ask them if it would be OK if we operate our ambulance services and fly cars in the same manner. I'd really like to hear their side of the story of the double standard.

Backward, maybe. If it helps get women in medical emergencies to the ED that much quicker and with better care, then not so much.
Just so long as they play nice in the sandbox and dont go screaming up and down the tristate area in unmarked flycars from 40 miles away like some other nameless religion associated agency/organization.

40 years ago today I along with the rest of the Port Chester Fire Dept and the Greenwich FD responded to Gullivers restaurant and bar in Port Chester on the state line with Greenwich Conn. We lost 24 that night some my friends but saved over 100 also that night. I saw acts of bravery that to this day are unmatched by anyone. We gave it our best and for the guys on the front line that night we live with it and still do everyday.

They probably only invited reliable resources. You know, the kind that can be trusted upon to show up when there's an emergency. Not just send a few pimply faced kids and a plumber with no recognized training on a half empty rig if they even decide to show up at all...
