After months of work, one of our members recently put together this video "trailer" to help us attract some newer members, and to show people what we do and who we are.
We are in the midst of a recruitment campaign that will be unveiling soon. It will feature a new website (I hope), a recently created Facebook page (facebook.com/crotonfire) and signs/posters put up around our community.
Please check out the video and let the creator, Meraash, know how nicely done it is.
    Thanks.

Just wanted to extend a thank you to JBE... I had the pleasure by his invitation to see the main FDNY communications office at Metrotech in Brooklyn the other day while on a visit to FDNY HDQTRS. It was a very impressive sight and nice to meet and greet all the guys and gals who work where all the magic begins... Everyone was very professional and a great work atmosphere. Most people don't get to see what a difficult and stressful job it is to be a fire alarm dispatcher and these guys made it look like the rest of the world is moving in slow motion. These people are just not credited enough for the work they do behind the scenes; its truely incredible Just wish they'd give you guys a kitchen!!!
Thanks again Jimmy and enjoy vacation

This is quite shocking, the whole situation. I'm asking myself "is this really happening?" It's surreal. ny10570 who we now know his name is Lenny Joyner, see his photo on the Denver news story, has been a regular productive member of this board for years. We know his political leanings, his compassion for others, his decency....yet most of us didn't know him personally.
    I wish I had.
To those members here who had the honor of knowing him, condolences to you all. We all share in your grief.
For all of us here who care, who feel, please take care of yourselves now. Don't be tempted to grab the beers or anything else to drown the pain away.
Talk about it. Write about it. Share your feelings with those of us here who care for you and want you to be okay. That's what this site is about. A Fraternity of sorts. Times like these are the most testing for everybody. Talk about it at the firehouse, the precinct, the ambulance quarters.
Lenny got called home to God way too early, yet he obviously died doing what he wanted to be doing. Living his life the way he wanted it to be. Quite an adventurist it seems. I imagine he was quite ecstatic to reach that peak, to see that view, to be closer to his God.
Our board has another hero now. And his name is Lenny Joyner. God Rest In Peace.
    Edit: Last name proper spelling.

My name is Kevin Freeman and it was my house, 22 Woodside Ave, that burned to the ground. Thankfully nobody was home at the time. My wife watched from the street and called me to come home just after 4pm. Longest commute of my life.
We're living in a hotel in New Rochelle now and dealing with all the madness. Obviously our lives will never be the same, but it could've been a lot worse if it happened at night. The house was totally engulfed in a matter of minutes.
I just came from a meeting with investigators who showed me crazy pictures of the incident I could hardly believe. They mentioned this site, but those shots aren't here. The pictures in this thread were from around when I got home and the firefighters were working on saving my neighbors place.
He's hoping they'll tear it down with all the water and smoke damage.
We have a storage locker already filled with clothes. People have been so supportive and generous. I wish I could say thank you to everybody personally. My work set up a site for me www.22woodsidefund.org. We'll take a beating on the contents insurance for sure.
BUT we'll rebuild. Thanks again for all the support.

I don't have an issue with career firefighters. I have an issue with you.
I, and so many more people, have grown tired of you only speaking up on these forums to beat your drum and stand atop your soapbox to deem all volunteer fire departments as incapable, lying, deceitful organizations. You think because you use big words and generally have ample grammar in your posts, that all of us are blind to your obvious dismay for the majority of us.
The issues ongoing in the Irvington FD are being beaten to death here with no true resolve. I agree with you that it's noble of the gentleman involved to stand for what he believes in. Just as I think anyone who stands up for what they believe in is honorable, because let's face it, too many people would rather not take a position on something and join the majority (drink the Kool-Aid, if you will).
Anyone that doesn't see you for who you really are and for the views you have of us evil volunteers is either naive or blind. We aren't perfect, not a single one of us is, but do you really, honestly think that coming on here and playing your game is solving anything? And am I alone on these forums to think that this story in Irvington is going to have little or no impact on anything?
There's so many more things in this world and in what we do that need our attention. And for me, those issues are ensuring we all are offering the best fire prevention training, fire safety education, strict code enforcement and adequate response to any emergency we're called upon - regardless of the community, department and whether or not those sworn to do these tasks is paid, period.
You're an intelligent man from what I can tell, with a wealth of knowledge and experience that could help better the fire service. Do you really think spending your time trying to dissect and disassemble the volunteer fire service is helping ANYONE?
    Good day to you, sir.

Could you imagine how pissed they would be when they are told about how many guys go out on worker's compensation that aren't really hurt? Or how much is spent on overtime to cover them?
    Holy cow!

And, let's be honest. How many people donate money not only to volunteer fire departments, but other charities, not because they want to support them, but they're dying to get some tax breaks?
    The people donating their hard-earned money to their local volunteer fire departments are doing one of the following;
    1. Thanking those that have helped them at some point in time.
    2. Thanking those that may have to help them at some point in time.
    3. Want to feel good about themselves.
    4. Want a tax break.
    5. Are members themselves.
    6. Are family of members in their local FD.
    7. Can't think of a way to say no to soliciting firefighters, so throw them a couple bucks so we leave them alone.
If I missed anything, please, feel free to add to this list. But in the 20 years I have been around, this seems to be the key reasons people continue to donate.

Below are links to the first 5 videos for the parade last night. There's a total of 12 videos but I won't post them all here and I'm not sure how to actually insert the video clips into the thread so they don't show up as links.
    Edit: Ossining won Best Overall
