Another thing they frequently do is not show up.

First, I was not there..... but, I do not see anything out the ordinary on this truck setup. I think if you are truck chauffer you should be expected to operate the truck you train and work with.
With this said, that is why I am a big fan of mid-mount tower ladders due to the low turntable to get under wires and with shorter booms.

Please DO NOT buy a 4 wheel drive unit. Your area is pretty flat, (hell, one area in Mamaroneck is called 'the flats!'), and your PD and FD have about, what, 6 4 WD SUV's you can use in the rare heavy snow incident that your DPW has not cleared. It will be $7000, plus way more wear on front end, brakes, tranny every time you start and stop. I know you do not pay for maintnence, but it will be your down time. If you can document 4 incidents of stuck ambulances in MEM's 40+ year Hx, I would be surprised. (Yea, I know it was MFD Rescue for some of those years.)
Are you allowed to count trade in $$$ from your old truck, or is the Amb Dist/Town laying claim to that money. You may get $10 to $20,000 trade value on your old unit.
You do NOT need a HUGE model. Don't get box envy with the neighbors. Better a real good small truck than a stripped big one. Small trucks= easier to train drivers, less intimidating to the soccer moms that squads should be courting= more drivers, fewer dings, smaller blind spots, shorter stopping distance.
Gas versus diesel, eh. Both have good and bad. Chevy VS Ford, same deal. All being =, go with the cheapest.
As for modifier, I don't think PL custombody can be beat in customer service. My vol squad (Somers) and the squad I work at a lot (Yorktown) has had good customer service, etc. BTW If Somers and Yorktown, in the NW Hills don't get 4WD, you don't need it either.
Bill (one of your medics, case you wern't sure)

We had a lady kept calling the house phone to tell about a cat in a tree. Used all the know answers to tell her to stop calling but after about 10 calls we said we will be right there. I pulled Engine 58 up blocked the road and put in pump. While my partner was talking to the lady I started to put the deck gun into position and she said to my partner what was I doing. I started to raise up the rpm and told her we were doing what see wanted and geting the cat out of the tree. No more phone calls !

Am I reading the emails from the pcbes correctly, that they are looking for fire police to direct traffic for nyseg? If so that is complete horse crap! Our volunteers should never be used for any corporate entity, especially one that likes to run bare bones operations till its too late. Pay these guys 30 an hour and ot after 8 hours like everyone else gets.

Mill Plain and Brewster have a great relationship. For many years Mill Plain has been last in the parade and always come up with some kind of skit. They are a class outfit and no disrespect should be given for a bunch of guys having fum with tier neighbors.
    Sorry, fun with thier neighbors

To all those reading this thread, the banter has been going on since 2002 when a parade invitation was lost in the mail.
Mill Plain started last and it has become a highlight of Mill Plain and Brewster to see what will happen. When you look at the relationship between the two it started in 1945 when Mill Plain was born, some 85 years after Brewster was started.
A brotherhood was formed that still remains today. Eight years ago Mill Plain and Miry Brook started coverinng for Brewster and Mahopac Falls so that they and their families could enjoy themselves at the convention in Lake George and the interaction between them is amazing. We have become one department spanning two states enjoying each other stories and families. Also the residents of Southeast and visitors applaud like crazy when they come through.
This is written by the past chief of Mill Plain who helped start it and who is now a captain and vice president of Brewster. As for mill plain and all the rest when stuff happens they are top notch organizations and i am proud to have been a member of three out of four of them so heres to brewsterfalls ,mill plain and miry brook, some of us salute you

My father was a Mahopac Volunteer Firemen, he passed away from a non LODD injury, received the same honors(the flag in front of the firehouse for Purdy was added because of the surrounding departments wanting to help out and I believe because he was the head of the department.) Several members have passed away this year and some decided they did not want these honors. Again, the only reason no one has ever noticed anything is because it wasn't covered by the press. The department also helped give the same honors to FDNY members who have passed away from the area that were not LODD.
Like others have stated there is nothing like a LODD funeral. The atmosphere is a lot more somber, you have to park two towns away and take a shuttle just to get close because theres 5-10,000+ firemen who are there to honor a fallen brother they may or may not ever even met. Saluting for 15-20 mins as it takes the family to drive passed the sea of firemen, bag pipe band marching, dignitaries from all over speaking, a motorcade of chopper cops 4 wide 25 deep, flags all over the place. I've frozen my butt off on Staten Island, and Wooster Mass, Ive sizzled my egg rolls in long island, and been drenched right here in Putnam county under the pouring rain. The Purdy Funeral of a 5 min procession passed 200 firemen (who all new him) underneath a flag was a very nice tribute. Everyone is entitled to their opinions, and unfortunately its hard to please everyone especially in the fire service. How about we kill this issue since its not going to change the way they operate. Everyone can take what we've discussed and bring it back to their own departments. And however any department decides to choose to honor their dead is good enough for me. But, lets stop beating a dead horse.

Not trying to be confrontational, but I think each department should do what works best for it and the family regardless of public opinion; if people are offended by the type of Department service rendered, they don't have to attend the funeral. I'm sure at this point Mahopac could really care less what others outside the department think since public opinion is non-binding..
