Mines simple, because i am "on the job"

If you told me that you were "ON THE JOB", I would assume that you were a COP not a Fireman. Be careful how you use that in your EVERYDAY LIFE.

I was 37Medic 1 when I joined the Fordyce scanner board. I've kept the same name on several boards and through many assignments.

You would assume it, because your a cop, I assume it, because I am a (career) firefighter, it does not reference anything about a cop.

the L in Dutchess usually signifies Fire Lieutenant

the L in Dutchess usually signifies Fire Lieutenant

yes, but in our department, Lieutenant only goes up to L4, so to distinguish from me being a rescue truck..... enter the L

That is a misuse of the county numbering system and can create confusion. M for member would be a better choice.

My name is x as in used to be 129, my old Empress man number, K, cause I was a big buff and said K all the time.....

Oddly enough, my new FD number just happens to be 129 ;)

Usually in a FD like UV with two stations, you'd have your station number as the first digit, i.e 67-157.

BTW I'm not trying to argue or even debate, just throwing it out there, slow day at work.

didn't view it as a arguement/debate... just as like a hypothetical discussion as to why our policies are the way they are, do you know how other departments in the county do it?

Other departments issue man numbers but do not add the department number in front of it. Also man numbers should be higher that anything that coincides with apparatus.

Until today, I assumed you were a Lieutenant.

Well, for example, a member of AFD St. 5 would be 32-5XX. The 2nd Lt. at St. 5 would be 32-L52. It should always be 3 digits (or have a letter i.e. 32-C5 for Captain) as to not be confused with apparatus.
