FDMV Promotional exam

14 posts in this topic

Last week the announcement for both the Captains and Lieutenants exam were posted for June 4, 2011. As many of the members on the job read over the announcement they all had a big surprise! The city is now requiring that you are a City resident for at least 1 year prior to the test. They also are requiring that for the Lts job you need to be an EMT. For the Captains you need to be an EMT-D. Sources say that this has not been a practice for many years if ever! The EMT issue was thrown out 4 yrs ago because some felons may not ever be a EMT which would unfairly keep them from being an officer. Pretty interesting that the test is in approx 70 days from this writing. Oh,well-maybe next time I can take the test!:)

Wait....you don't have to live in the city to be on the job, but you have to live in the city in order to take the promotional exam? WHAT!? Never mind the fact that you had 70 days notice that you had to live in the city for a year. This is insane, you've got a great argument for court intervention here!

This was clearly cooked up by the most racist organization in Civil Service, The Vulcan Society.

NYS eliminated the EMT-D certification over 12 years ago. The "D" is included in the basic EMT-B certification, which replaced both EMT & EMT-D

It should not be a surprise. The topic was covered in the How to run a fd Course.

Too late now, but it would have been interesting to see how many guys would have moved to the Bronx because you have to be a resident of the CITY.

While you have the judge's ear, you might want to mention it's the Prior List you are questioning so your promotion goes by those requirements, not the new ones.

How about hiring the best candidate for the Job and promoting those that deserve it regardless of residence. It amazes me how you can be a felon without a HS Diploma to get on that Job but they want you to be a scholar once your there. What a disgrace to the Profession especially to those dedicated members. A whole new can of worms is goin to be opened and the Administration is just to blind or stupid to realize it.

Looks like another legal issue, NY public officers laws are interesting to read. "Failure to represent" might be another issue. Time will tell!!!

The fact that to be an EMT you cannot have a felony record will keep most of the members who live in town from taking the test.

It just goes to show how corrupt The City of Mt Vernon is! Anyone that thinks that this isn't a race issue has their heads in the sand. I hope there is a way that ALL members of FDMV can fight this. Good Luck!

I don't know how that's legal................ if the city allows you to live outside Mt. Vernon after you're appointed, then it should be a moot point! I feel bad for all the potential Lt.'s and Capt.s who are now going to have to sue just to take the test............. PURE B.S.!!!!!

None of this is legal if the Union does not want to fight it then a court injunction is in order. This is totally illegal.

Hats off to the the members who stepped up and researched the issue, Another Hats off to NYS civil service who stepped in and ADVISED MOUNT VERNON TO AMEND ITS TEST ANNOUNCEMENT to delete the residence requirement. This whole issue is obvious where it all started from!!! More to follow.
