Great hydrant photos from fire in Boston on Facebook

I would highly recommend liking Boston Fire Fighters Local 718, if you already haven't, for some great photos of how they handled an illegally parked car in front of a hydrant outside of a fire! Nice work!!!!

Fire was on the front porch, floor 2, of a 3 story wdfrm OMD (3 decker) located at 36 Mount Ida Road in District 7, Dorchester. Heavy fire was quickly knocked down, Car 7 requested a building inspector to the scene to assess structural stability of porch.

wouldn't of been better to just run it under the car rather than kink the hose again to go through the windows?

Well it is actually a sign of a tunneled vision crew. A heads up crew would have OPENED THE DOORS! You see this all the time, guys get so tunnel visioned that the ignore the obvious easy fix. The car is not moving and you have committed to the hydrant, why are you gonna trash your hose on his windows and kink it up? Just run it over the hood if possible, if not, open the doors. You broke his glass for a reason right?

But by the time you get the Hurst tool pulled out and started up, and then open the doors.....LOL

If you break the window you can then open the door. (Remember the doors presumably operate once unlocked in an undamaged car) I think it goes along with the whole try before you pry thing they teach us all in FF1 lol.

Might have punctured the hose if there was an unseen object under the car or the owner might try and run over it to get out if no one is close to stop him. A punctured hose can do a lot of damage and be a hazard to the personnel close to the hose. Play it safe, run the hose were you can see it when possible. :(
