*NOT MY PHOTOS*

So I saw this on the Rosenbauer America Facebook. Indeed a tight fit. Said to have 3/4" to spare. Spec'ing this truck must have been fun lol.

Is there enough room to open the driver's door. Who shovels the snow in the winter so it doesn't bounce out the door.

  • Something that would bother me is the word "CHESWICK" on the front under the windshield is not centered. I wouldn't back in with an empty booster tank either

That is a rather "Tight Fit," if you ask me. Do they not take measurements of the bay into consideration when they purchase this equipment? Sounds like a dumb question I know, but you wonder?

The truck was designed with the limited space in mind. As you can see with the light bar lowered in front of the cab and the suspensio lowered as well. I wish I could find a pic of the truck it's replacing. I can only assume it was ancient lol.

I'm also guessing a new station or station remodel was out of the question.

Even if they took measurements, they are trying to fit the smallest "full size" modern engine into a bay that was designed for most likely pre WWII station.

It fits so they clearly took measurements. I always laugh when they get to the house with the new toy only to find out that it doesn't fit.

Then all of a sudden the firehouse renovatIon (or replacement) becomes a big issue. "We can't leave the new truck out in the elements without a 275,000 square foot, three story, nine bay, state of the art house to put it in".

LOL

Often that's the plan. We tell the municipality we need to modify, in some cases we give them years of warning, that the next rig will be a problem, then when it shows up too big, they scramble to fix it.

In the 5th picture, on the drivers side, there is a large drum with a pump and hose attached. Is that to spray Vaseline on the rig to get out?

By the way Boston has a station (not sure of the number) that is a landmark and they can't modify it. It stations a ladder and engine that have to be custom made due to the inability to modify the bays. Some times you are stuck between a rock and a hard place. Can't get a smaller engine and can't modify the building. Get out the Crisco and hope for the best.

Ladder 15 & Engine 33 don't appear to have any modification (at first glance). The station doesn't seem that out of the ordinary in terms of design.

As a side note, this house was home to Lt. Edward Walsh of Engine Co. 33 and Michael Kennedy of Ladder Co. 15 who were killed in the line of duty on the afternoon of March 26th while fighting a nine alarm fire on Beacon Street.
