  1. RIP Officer Frey. I was at Mavis Tire 1 block away when this happened, and lived a few blocks away, Remeber it like it was yesterday. I saw a truck 2 weeks ago in Sullivan County with a Thank A Officer Michael Frey bumper sticker on it.
  2. Really? Is the tax just on those who live there? Yonkers has a commuter tax, right?
  3. Why do you need a badge? If you are part of a department, they should have provided you with a badge. If they did not, then there must be a reason why they do not issue badges. Another thing to remember, you should not be carrying a badge that is not backed by some form of official ID.
  4. Remember though, people who work in NYC pay a payroll tax to work there. Yonkers has the same thing. They are already contributing to those services. It is a shame that 2 localities that collect extra money from those who just work there still can not afford to pay for necessary services.
  5. These are services taxes should cover already. Now they want us to keep payng taxes, but pay fees also???? What do taxes pay for these days????
  6. I know Orange County hires p/t and they do not use a list. If you have your NYS Certificate, or are willing to get it at your expense, and pass the course, and their training and requirements, you would easily get hired.
  7. That is a big drop. What do you think contributed to such a drop?
  8. Excellent example of Brotherhood!
  9. I have used one through WCPD also. While it is a great tool, and any training is better then no training, I personally did not like it too much. I did not get sick, but others did. I think my mentality was "it is a simulator and not real", like a video game, so it took away from the experience. It did not appear or seem real to me.
  10. Up until they put guide rails on Rt. 17 2 years ago between Monroe/Harriman and Middletown, there were numerous cross over fatalities in a 2 year span, many. Since they put up the rails, none. There was actually 1 in Goshen 300 feet from where they had stopped putting up the rails for that day. The rails were scheduled, and were, put up there the following day, as scheduled and planned.
  11. One of Paterson's rationales to why the current plates need to be replaced is that they fade over time. That is a crock! Not even the first issues of the current plate are fading. I do not like him or his ideas because he is not telling the truth and using lies to try to justify his hidden tax. There is no reason for a new plate issue. I do not care if they were $5 or $25, I do not wish to contribute 1 red penny to this out of control NYS Government. If they re-issue the plates, what is next? And after we all pay for a new issue and they stop making money, they will just do another re-issue, the madness will (and won't ) ever stop. Now, if they want to collect a fee for new plates, then put the money back into Emergency Services, then I wil have no issues. But to use it to pay off other debt and to pay bills they can not because of decades of mismanagement and lack of savings, my answer is no way.
  12. The whole thing is absurd. These services are already paid for in your taxes. Where and when does this top. However, on the other hand, if this saves the taxpayer money, as they claim, go for it.
  13. That is the old one. Not sure what they use that one for now. The new one is MUCH bigger, nicer and is parked in the Special Ops Garage at WCPD HQ.
  14. I hate snakes! There is actually a condo complex in Orange County (Central Valley) that is built into a hilll that has Rattelsnake dens that can not be disturbed as they are protected. I read several years ago they are seen frequently and there are very problems and very few bites, but lot's of snakes. The belief is that people and snakes there have adapted to live within close proximity together in harmony.
  15. The airport ARFF does not fight structural fires, or do medical calls. A structure fire would be handled by the locality the fire is in. The response in an aircraft emergency, or alert, as they are called, depends on what the airport calls in to 60 Control, which depends on the circumstances of the alert. No call to 60 Control, no outside response, happens more regularly than a call to 60 Control.
  16. Actually, the dispatch system sort of works in revearse. When there is an issue, the ARFF team willl know first and advise 60 Control of their needs, if there are any. Most of the time the trucks roll 60 Control is not advised or aware. Depends on the circumstances of the issue. These trucks can be operated by 1 person, from within the vehicle. They have top-notch equipment.
  17. There is no "Dispatch" for the ARFF Team at HPN. I did this job for several years. When there is an issue, they are advised by the tower at HPN or by the ATC Center. It goes over the airport operations frequency. The trucks are always covered. The first truck must be on the scene within 3 minutes, the 2nd within 4 minutes. HPN is a quiet airport compared to others I worked at, where the trucks rolled a few times a week, under the same procedures HPN uses. The truck at HPN roll on an emergency 1 or 2 times a month, tops, and most of them are false alarrms and precautionary. They have a good Mutual Aid Plan. The ARFF team is governed more by Federal Aviation Regulations than any other. The specs can be found in FAR Part 139. The equipment requirements vary based on several factors, such as aircraft size and flight frequency. The airport ARFF guys do not run medical calls, structure fires or car fires, or anything like that. That is taken care of by the mutual aid plan and departments. They are not structure certified firefighters. The plan and concept work now, and always have. Ther eis no way that HPN could get support to pay a full time fire department or fire team based on the call levels at this airport.
  18. They are in the process of rebuilding that whole area of the building and building a new room for communications. I am nto sure what else they are doing.
  19. There is not enough money to keep the WCPD heli covered 24 hours now.
  20. I would not call this a "volunteer" department. Sounds like a bunch of renegades who ran out and bought a so-called "emergency vehicle" and respond to calls with no official dispatch with people who are not even trained or certified. I say it borderlines being criminal. We have the same issues in Orange County. These groups seem to show up at emergency calls when they were not dispatched and at incidents that are not in their jurisdictions.
  21. It is incorrect that the airport manager responds alone. The airport manager does not respond to airport emergencies in the emergency vehicles. There is never a time when 1 truck responds, both trucks always go. The FAR's also state response times, if I remember correctly, the first vehicle has to be on the scene of an accident on the airport within 3 minutes and the second within 4 minutes. This was practiced regularly, and was always met.
  22. I worked there for several years. The ARFF is manned by airport operations personel. The airport meets or exceeds are FAA requirements. The equipment they have today is by far much, much, much better then when I worked there. The trucks can be operated by 1 man, if needed, which they seldom have 1 man, easily without that person leaving the truck. They rely on the mutual aid system heavily. While accidents and alerts can happen anytime, this airport, compared to others I have worked at, has a very low number of either. I am remaining neutral on this topic, as I have conflicting views, but it would be very hard to justify the expense of having a full time department there 24/7. The HPN ARFF duties are very limited. When I was there, they did not repsond to car fires, structure fires or EMS calls. These were handled by the mutual aid companies and the WCPD. The mutual aid plan was pretty comprehensive and detailed, and seemed to work well.
  23. There is no confirmation it struck or where. These things happen all the time, and I have never heard of anybody responding to it. I live in Orange County. I have seen 3 in the area of Chester/Monroe in the last year. One of them went directly over my head at about 1,000 feet, it was amazing. Based on it's trajectory, I am guessing it landed within 2 miles from where I live. I also saw another onw in the area of Circleville/Bulleville in December.
