    Like most VAC's (and a lot of us ), they have issues. However, I believe that this is just a normal fundraising event.
    The Town of Newburgh Volunteer Ambulance Corp d/b/a Town of Newburgh EMS, runs (has) 3 ambulances. They have contracted paid staff (2 EMT's) that work 6a-6p, 7 days/week. They also bill for service.
    The town is approximately 47 sq miles with a small area in the north also covered by Plattekill Fire Dept which runs a BLS ambulance.

    On Thursday July 11, Paramedic Bill Spadafora came home. Bill was critically injured in an ambulance accident on May 28th. After almost two months at Albany Medical Center, Bill not only came home but he came home in style. Many EMS, Fire, and Police agencies came together to participate in his homecoming. The following is a video of his homecoming.

    We have a "volunteer" agency in a nearby town that I belonged to for a short time. They have 24hr paid paramedic staffing and daytime paid EMT/EMT-I. The volunteer crews are required to be in station, in uniform when on duty. If you are not on the duty roster, you are not to be at the station after 11pm (I think it's 11. It's been a while). This agency has an average time from dispatch to on scene of 6 minutes or less depending on where their call is. I believe that most of the time, they are on scene in 4 minutes or less.
    It is not unusual for them to staff an ambulance for 2nd and 3rd calls, even in the daytime.
    Unfortunately, I think they are an exception rather than the rule.
    On the other side of the coin, is the ems in my town that is paid 6a-6p x 7 days. The chances of a second rig getting out during the day is all but 0. From 6p to about midnight you have a fair chance of an ambulance showing up. Midnight - 6a you're waiting for the commercial service to get to you.

    A lot of this could very well be applied to the volunteer fire service as well.

    Yes, I notice it as well. There are so many kin fact that it more or less diminishes the relevance of all causes. Everybody seems to want recognition these days and many are not shy about accepting the gratitude and attention. I am a retired fire officer as well as a Veteran and am proud of both, but I do not feel a need to tell it to the world and to be treated as a hero simply because I rescued a person or fought in a war. We call too many people heroes these days and those of us who have been around a little know that putting on a uniform and doing a job well does not make us heroic. There are true heroes among us, such as those who perform extraordinary acts of bravery or perform selfless acts to help others. Jumping on a live grenade or performing a rescue against all odds of coming out alive are two examples. In my final years of service,I noticed that way too many of us were more than willing to take a bow to a gracious public just for going to work each day. Let's reassess a little and back off and save the accolades for those among us who deserve it. Memorial Day is one holiday that should stand apart from some of the others that have popped up over the years to celebrate things that no one cares about. We should all care about our freedom and therefore make this day stand out fromthe others. Remember that we do not celebrate Memorial Day----------We observe it!!

    If anyone ever gets the chance to visit military cemetary they should. Just to walk among the hundreds upon hundreds of crosses..... I went to the American cemetary in Luxemberg once. Just think that each one of those markers was somebody's father/husband/brother that didn't come home.
    During all the celebrations and parades this weekend, take time to remember and give thanks.
    Thank you FFPCogs.
    Thanks dad. RIP

    Besides killing you slowly by exposure to the chemical itself, one of the main reasons they don't use it in fire extinguishers anymore is that it produces phosgene gas when heated. You would put out the fire and then suffocate on the gas produced.

    Maybe the government can stop the charades trying to say this was a "lone" act, find out who was financing the terrorists and get the money from them.

    Unfortunatly, Hussein Obama would never allow that so as not to offend his friends and colleagues.

    AGAIN........Are you guys still pissing at each other over the traffic situation.
    If, there was nothing wrong with the truck, because we are all blaming the driver;
    If, the truck driver wasn't driving so fast;
    If, the truck wasn't overweight;
    If, the driver didn't get trapped;
    If, the fire department worked faster and extricated the driver faster;
    If, the EMS personnel could have gotten the surgical team there faster to cut off the drivers legs;
    Maybe, just maybe, the world would be perfect!
    But answer this.................
    If a dalmation had a square ass, would he poop dice?

    Everything about this bill ( now law) horrifies me- the way it was written, the way it was rushed through in the back rooms of albany, voted on in the middle of the night- it is all about the government asserting power. Weather it has any effect on gun crime was obviously not something these bottom feeding politicians care about

    And now, for an opposing view: The "Oklahoma 2nd Amendment Preservation Act" is now working its way through the Oklahoma legislature.
    The language of the legislation is clear: "Federal acts, laws, orders, rules, regulations, bans or registration requirements regarding firearms constitute an infringement on the individual right [to keep and bear arms] in the Constitution of the United States...and are hereby declared to be invalid in the State of Oklahoma."
    The legislation mentions the "intent" of America's "Founders" and the Constitution's "ratifiers," and sets forth the punishment for trying to enforce new gun control measures:

    Any official, agent, or employee of the United States government or any employee of a corporation providing services to the United States government that enforces or attempts to enforce an act, order, law, statute, rule or regulation of the government of the United States in violation of this act shall be guilty of a felony and upon conviction...shall be punished by imprisonment in the custody of the Department of Corrections not to exceed five (5) years.

    Yes, that is the STATED aim. However, Until these measures take effect, I am not, nor have I ever been, a criminal. I would not consider myself, although others may disagree, mentally/emotionally unstable. So why am i prohibited from owning certain firearms that are apparently more dangerous because of the way they look? I can be trusted to handle/possess/transport high explosives but not to put more than 7 bullets in a gun? WTF!?!

    Why should they fix it? All the previously innocent people who get charged with violating this broken law will pay for fixing it through the judicial system. Every person who gets snagged by conflicting and broken legislation get their day (and lose their $$$) in court to fix what our esteemed leaders didn't bother to read. Ignorance of the law is no excuse unless you're making them.

    yes but because you are a law abiding citizen, you either reloaded 3 times or have at least 3 7round magazines.
    You need to remember that Cuomo's original call was for CONFISCATION. Don't believe for a second that his goal has changed. Why else register and ban the transfer of "assault" weapons? This is so the state knows who has them. Makes it a whole lot easier to knock on your door and "ask" you to give them up. It'll be real interesting to see how many actually register out of the thousands that are said to exist in this state.
    The reason this was rushed through was so that no one could have a chance to read it. This bill is 78 pages. We are only beginning to find out what is in it. Cuomo used his executive powers to circumvent the state constitution which requires a 3 day aging period for new legislation. This was done so that the legislature and the public would not have a chance to review it. Some legislatures complained they had less than 20 minutes to look at the bill before the vote.
    Mental health? How about requiring prospective owners to undergo psychological testing, from a state sponsored psychiatrist, at a substantial cost, to see if you are fit to own a firearm (in the eyes of the state). It's coming. You're an LEO? You think you will be exempt? Think again. Mmm... Sounds like some Eastern European countries where it might take you 5 years to get state permission to own a single shot shotgun with limited amounts of state approved ammunition.
    And guess what? With all the restrictions, rules, taxes, etc. the bad guys still have guns.

    Break into a certain house in Westchester and your still getting 17 9mm beans center mass. All this does is turn many law abiding citizens into felons. Typical NY liberal BULLSHIT, and still a gun/rifle has yet to kill anyone...

    Not that I often go on parkways, but it always amazed me that my pick-up, with 4 doors and a covered bed has to be registered as commercial and therefore is not permitted on parkways, but if I drove a much larger H2 or Expedition, I would be allowed.
