    OK...let's see...
    1. No one bashed any agency. 1a. If your telling the truth how it is, how is it bashing if some aren't doing their jobs?
    2. Just showing up to a call isn't enough.
    3. I spend more time educated truly ill people who try to drive then I do those who call 911 for nonsense. Guess what...if they are that's on you! Public education is part of your responsibilities. 3a. With thinking that 911 adds time...no way...it can add better response and public service with EMD and pre arrival instructions where warranted. Can drive to the hospital faster? So now what we go back to cadillacs and scoop and run?
    4. Maybe stress does add time to untrained people not in our businesses eyes..but my CAD doesn't lie and many of the VAC's in my area...aren't cutting it. And what I have learned is the truth hurts and not dealing with not getting out along with the next 3 mutual aid agencies...but patting yourself on the back because on 1 day in a month you got all 3 buses out is ridiculous. Save 1 of the 3...I'll take one of those when I'm sitting there doing a jig to entertain a patient or debating on whether to ask for a cop to come to take his car or another medic for the flycar or to put them in the back of the engine on scene. You can't make the argument about the person with a suitcase in their hand at 2 am and how it could be quicker to drive when you have to be the one to explain why their loved one is struggling to breath and we're going deeper and deeper into protocol. I should not have to apologize for something that isn't my agencies responsibility.
    5. If heart and pride were the root to solve all problems...we'd have no problems at all...but its not just about that. Wanting good consistent patient care has nothing to do with ego's. Work everyday where a high percentage of the time your waiting extended periods of time waiting for an ambulance and then come tell me. Or tell me how happy I should be that I'm on my 6th, 7th or 10th job where I've waited for an ambulance and then I get 1 all day and the EMT or whoever comes in all happy go lucky and wonders why I'm at the end of my rope as their all smiles and even sometimes talking about how great their agency is...spare me.
Yeah..I guess that's enough for now.

So there you go boys and girls, enough holes in the times to drive a tanker through. Did Banksville's tanker respond at 16:19 or 16:27? What arrived on scene at 16:28, E157, E158, or both? Read through this thread and see how different the times are from one person to the next. Who knows who's right, and who cares? Once again, a lot of Monday morning quarterbacking and commentary by people who were not involved whatsoever, speculating and criticizing with incomplete, inaccurate information. I fail to see what is gained by all of this. My two cents.

Thanks Mike. I was pretty confident that the times were exact but I was waiting for you to confirm it. So....could someone please explain why the Banksville tanker was not enroute for a Banksville structure fire until 12 minutes after the initial alarm? None of this makes sense to me. Is this the norm???

Teachers are taking a big hit too and they were the first to back him. Luckily Bloomy isn't your typical poll.
As bleak as it looks it will not be this severe. All these cuts are based on Patterson's proposed budget. The state legislature and city council still have to weigh in.

While standing by outside a school as other members of his company investigated an activated alarm inside...
"313 to Yonkers you better send a lot of cops here I think there's a riot goin' on"
"10-4, 313, about how many students are involved?"
"How many does the school hold Yonkers?"
"OK, 313, we get it, Police are on the way"

They are the latest in sidewalk protection accessories from the DOT called bell bollards. They're maybe 2 feet tall, black and white, and are shaped like a ...well, bell. They are used in places where vehicles frequently make tight turns or u-turns and allow tires to glance off and continue without damage while still protecting pedestrians from errant rescues, ambulances, and cars.

The visibility isn't so much an issue because most of the visibility you need is in the lower 2/3 of your windshield. Most rearmounts are similar to driving your personal vehicle with the visors down. Not ideal, but something you can deal with. The extra clearance you need to manage is easier because its in front where you can see it.

The argument is not that the firefighters or test writers are racists. It starts with the dept not being able to prove that the test did anything to help select better firefighters. First class or last class and you're still getting firefighters with similar pass rates and similar promotions rates. The tests in question had an higher failure rate amongst minorities. Traditionally in any standardized test, your basic education has a lot to do with how well you do on the test. Poor people get a crappier education than rich people. Its not all society, there are many factors including family and community issues. Here in grand ol' NYC the vast majority of our minorities come from garbage communities with weak schools, broken homes, and little community support. They are not going to do as well as better educated people who grew up in better communities with better schools. It just so happens these better communities are a little heavy on the white end of the spectrum. SO, what is really a poverty bias takes on a racial bias. In the Jim Crow south there were many laws put into place to disenfranchise blacks without explicitly preventing blacks from voting. Things like property ownership requirements and literacy requirements while not explicitly targeting blacks were used to target them. So piles of precedent and case law were developed to prevent those types of actions. This is the same principal that the city has lost on. The test wasn't intentionally racist, but it had the unintended consequence of placing a greater hurdle in the way of minorities. Now if you can create a test that directly speaks towards someone's ability as a firefighter or aptitude for becoming a firefighter you can test away to your hearts content. That is why you have the latest test created by the city. While it appears to be a lot of bullshit and unimportant babble, the test was essentially a pshych profile. I hope this made sense and didn't ramble too much. If it did, then why are you still reading?

Chief Kilduf is by all accounts an excellent leader and a perfect pick at COD. Here's the catch. He's appointed by the fire commissioner. Therefor he serves at the pleasure of the fire commissioner. When Magoo tapped Cassano as COD he was met with similar praise, however 8 years later his tenure as COD has been marred by fire house closings, denial of 9/11 related illness deaths being line of duty, the Deutsche Bank tragedy and ensuing farce of an investigation, etc. To keep his job the COD has to toe the Dept line. If he strays too far he can find himself out of a job.

I believe in a past thread someone had tried to contact WCDES about the TRT with zero response. Since when is asking questions repeatedly DEMANDING?(your words) So you are trying to tell me that this forum is not the place to ask these questions about the team but yet there seems to be many guys on here that talk the talk about what this team can do. You know what Ladder55, you are right, this is not the place to ask about the county TRT. Maybe if we don't talk about it or ask any questions it will go away. Thanks for YOUR opinion on this.

Thats really the problem. While many people want to and intend to save lives, hiding behind this we're volunteers and doing the best we can isn;t always good enough. Right now, there are two big weaknesses in emergency services in Westchester right now as I see it. Coverage capability and redundancy. Both of these problems greatly affect the volunteer service and every time they're brought up, it assumed people are bashing the volleys. All any of us want to see is the volleys and paid depts do something to address these problems. The paid depts appear to have started the ball rolling towards this end. Volleys too often continue to sit dug in insisting that all is well.

They are a crack commando unit was sent to prison by court for a crime they did not commit. These men promptly escaped from a maximum security stockade to the New York City underground. Today, still wanted by the government, they survive as soldiers of fortune. If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them, maybe you can hire... The A-Team.

    Rumor's on the street about a new Chief of Dept. are;
Edward Kilduff - A.C. Brooklyn Borough Commander
Richard Tobin - A.C. Chief of Fire Prevention
Thomas Galvin - A.C. Chief of Training
Robert Sweeney - Chief of Operations
The latter two are rumored to have been tapped, but are not interested in taking the position.
As for Chief Cassano and Fire/EMS integration. This is a bad thing, both for Fire and EMS. These are two separate jobs with separate needs and they shouldn't be combined, not at all. The only advantage it serves is to the city's bottom line and it's at expense of service.

LOL. Bro..you losing it on me or you haven't read all my posts...I advocate aluminum aerials lol. The only thing I can tell you that I choose steel over aluminum in only one thing..carabiners. You basically reiterated exactly the points I was making for those who claim aluminum is "crap" but yet can't come up with a) why it supposedly is and how steel is supposedly so much better. But as I suspected things are stuck in peoples head based on opinion then actual facts.
  18. ny10570 liked a post in a topic in E-One Apparatus starting to look good?
Why thank you for playing devils advocate. As a person who isn't part of the kinder, gentler fire service nor bogged in the mud of tradition, I have no issues with aluminum and obviously based on my post 1 or 2 prior to my last can also back up my stance in any argument far more then calling anything "crap" nor is mine based on opinion based on little to no facts. Which I have to say if my department opted to get an aerial made of steel tomorrow, I would probably make my case of aluminum but wouldn't die over it.
So with that in mind in response to the devil's advocate stance....I'll make this even easier. Go through all aerial failures in just the past 10 years then tell me what you fine.
I'm not gonna let my cat out of the bag yet as I have another part of this statement I want to discuss..but I'm enjoying this discussion with a few of you even though some will no longer chime in. I'm going to wait and see if we get any further responses with those home with the snow to continue it further.

    Posted from another site...
A few weeks back, I was invited down to New York as a guest of Lee Ielpi, FDNY Ret., co-founder of the WTC Tribute Center, to attend the commissioning of the USS New York. During the day I had the opportunity to meet with many of the sailors and officers of the ship, the average age being about 22 years old. That being said, most of these individuals were adolescents at the time of 9/11, and did not have a full understanding of the magnitude and historical impact this event had on not only the country but also the many New Yorkers that perished , lived and continue to live through this tragedy.
As a result, I have offered to build and donate a section of the library on the ship titled "New York". This section will include books, DVDs and documentaries on the FDNY, NYPD, PAPD, 9-11 and New York in general. I am contacting those that I have reached out to over the past 8 years to see if they can assist me in making this happen. My goal is to donate up to 300 of these items, and I will be purchasing the majority of these items myself, and would ask your assistance in helping me acheive this goal. I am asking those on the job if they would help by taking a collection at their firehouse or precinct, and others if they would consider donating either cash or a Barnes and Noble giftcard. My goal is to raise $2000 - $3000 and I'm well on the way.
If you have any questions or need additional information, please feel free to contact me , Lee Ielpi or DC Fred Lafemina who will be offering me some guidance with this project. Our contact information is listed below.

The county is proposing consolidating 36 departments into 19 at an estimated savings of $7.5 million. The Westchester Association of Fire Chiefs is apparently unhappy with this. The email I received only gave these links, a couple links to public hearing sessions, and a message imploring people to act now. It didn't actually explain what exactly is so bad. Maybe the folks here at Bravo can clear this up.

The sooner we recognize we are not cops or firefighters the better EMS will be. Cops and firefighters enter dangerous situations to save lives. We go near dangerous situations and wait for the police or firefighters to do their thing. Yes, sometimes poo spills over and we get caught up. But so do ER docs and nurses. In my opinion, the solution is to better integrate EMS into the healthcare system. Rather than just being a taxi service EMS has to be empowered to tell people no and treat minor problems without transporting everyone.

NYC was the #1 target before 9/11, after 9/11, and will still be the number 1 target tomorrow. Terror trial or no terror trial we're the target. All that changes which target in NYC is top.
Can we at least expect the US to not be hypocrites. In 1995 an American, Lori Berenson, was arrested in Peru and charged with leading a local militant group the country had identified as terrorists. In Peru anyone accused of actively engaging in or supporting terrorism is tried in a military tribunal. Appropriately enough the US State Dept demanded Peru cease and she be tried in open court according to established international treaties. She was convicted of treason and leading a terrorist cell. She was convicted and sentenced to life in prison. After years of continued pressure by both the Clinton and Bush administrations she was granted a civil trial where sentence was reduced to 20 years after the court found various flaws in the original prosecution. I believe she did what she was eventually convicted of in civil court. Lets face it, not all Americans are good people. We have no cleared example right now than Hasan. However there are Americans all over the world who could easily become innocent victims of an over zealous government without the protection of the same international treaties were looking to violate.
