  1. I think 'some' people misinterpret my simple statement that DC911 will now officially be calling it Care1 EMS, as a shot at the company, when it is no such thing. There was simply a question back in November why they were not calling them that. IIRC, it was still 'in the works' for the OFFICIAL name change to take place, through whatever applications were made, I am sure with DoH, and any other entities. Can't just wake up and decide to change your company's name and it happens right then and there.

Also, in reference to the contract held by PVFD, the CONTRACT was decided by, and signed BY the TOWN itself, NOT the FD. Since those hours for contracted coverage were decided by the town, it said nothing about who HAD to provide coverage after that time. I will not speculate into how pleased/displeased PVFD was by the off-hours service, but word was passed onto the dispatch agency that MLSS would be dispatched during the non-contracted hours.

I should also clarify that the Care1 EMS will also be dispatched as they normally would in order of preference by agencies that use commercial agencies for transports (i.e. correctional facilities), and any mutual aid, NOT just as multiple calls in PVFD area.

I fail to see how stating this is so terrible. **shrugs**

  2. Why don't you say it as it is & not play word games. As the contract states as per the towns agreement. Care 1 is the contracted company. That contract reads that Care 1 will provide ALS coverage from 5 a to 1700 monday threw friday. The company provided coverage for at no additional fees ( that I am aware of ). Go ahead and cover the area and bill for it. Big deal. Its a contract. The Medics & EMTS that covered the shift and do a good job for the most part. Most of the same Medics are & had been the same Medics from the other companies that had been there. Just a diff patch & shirt.

Some people should get a grip.

I think you are right, some people SHOULD get a grip. I merely stated facts, you sir, read too far into it.

  3. Now And Add On Question, DC 911 Still Dispatches HVP For Pleasant Valley, Any Reason Why No Name Change???

As of 0000hrs 1/1/12, Dutchess 911 is now dispatching the agency as Care1 EMS, no longer Hudson Valley Paramedics. This will only affect 2nd calls in the district during contracted hours, as the dedicated unit is still called 56-79. After contract hours, Mobile Life Support has been chosen by PVFD as the ALS provider.

  4. This topic was locked. Apparently some people can't keep their biased mouths (or fingers) shut, and not post anti-police sentiments out in public. This topic will remain view-able so people can read about the incident, but the apparently overwhelming asinine comments will prevent any replies from being posted.

I will say thankfully no one seriously hurt, and all are recovering!

  5. No life hazard. Clear the area, let it burn , extinguish remaining fire on the ground once the pole no longer has a falling debris issue. Call in the utility who owns it to do any elevated stabilization and or final extinguishment.

Taking in consideration that most of these are built in rural areas, most departments most likely have an Ariel to reach them so waiting for it to burn out may be the only option. I would not send anyone inside the tower because there is no emergency exit and as some of the photos show there may be a collapse. Lets not forget these machines deal with high voltage.

    Lets not forget Cell Towers

All you can really do is contact the company in charge of it and your local electrical utility to cut the power. It's not worth anyones life

Very good points. Let's not forget that those wind turbines are massive electric generators. Even once wound down, if no capacitors of any form to store energy, there is sure to be plenty of residual electrical energy there, and we all know a burning transformer on a pole, or downed electrical line doesn't get touched until the Utility Company will prove it's dead, the same precaution should come from an electrical "factory" for lack of a better term!!

Jet, thanks for bringing the Cell Tower issue to light to, never really considered that!

  6. mu·tu·al

    adj

    \ˈmyü-chə-wəl, -chəl, -chü-əl; ˈmyüch-wəl\

    Definition of MUTUAL

1 a : directed by each toward the other or the others <mutual affection>

b : having the same feelings one for the other <they had long been mutual enemies>

    c : shared in common <enjoying their mutual hobby> d : joint

Mutual, in and of it's nature, means it is shared by both parties. Mutual ends when it stops working both ways. Some departments use the 'mutual' system to add numbers for their runs, and to aid in justification of existence. No longer it seems, is the majority of 'mutual aid' as such, it is more automatic assistance.

  7. Nice shots! Love the demo of throwing water on the greese fire.

I agree! People have heard of the concept, but it really is different to actually SEE it first hand!!

Also, quick question, why the lettering on the windshield of the Rescue "LADDER RESCUE". To ME, I would think something with an aerial device would be labeled a "Ladder" whatever, but I see no aerial.

    Just for clarification, thanks!!!

  8. As a HAM I am totally offended that you posted a picture of my well equipped Mobile Radio Emergency Field Communications Vehicle (Callsign "Car Lightning-Rod"). I've been featured on HAMSEXY.COM but this picture is before I added the all important CERT, ARES and SKYWARN reflective id signs on my vehicle..............

OH GOD I CAN'T CONTINUE!!!! Laughing too hard when trying to type this out.

But goes to show yah when a good thing goes totally bad!!!!!

  9. See below link for a related discussion!

    http://www.emtbravo.net/index.php/topic/41253-northern-westchester-heroin-overdoses

I've been reading about all the overdoses in Northern Westchester on LoHud.com. All seem to be a bad batch of Heroin going around, which happens every fews years.

Which leads me to the question- should first responders (PD,EMS,Fire) be equipped with Narcan that can be delivered via the nasal route? Heck, some cities give it out to junkies to prevent heroin overdoses they may come upon. Although it doesn't rule out an IV injection, it could help buy some time, especially when ALS is coming from a distance.

Boston did a comprehensive study on this:

  11. Mark, this is a new feature put in place to bring to attention/remind people that they are about to post in a thread that is "dead"/old. Some people like to go in and post comments in old thread for reasons unknown, sometimes just to comment and build up post counts. This by no means should discourage someone from posting that really has something to contribute to a topic.

Just because a thread is old and you get that message, please don't feel the need to start a new thread if it already exists, if it is appropriate!

  12. What about the entire public safety sector? How many future FF are investigated for ONLY Arson history??

That, and if there is no history, look how many FF arsonist there end up being!!! You can investigate everyone's history as much as you want, but it seems that only the specifics apply to the fire service, a history of arson.

Sure people have become valuable assets to the public safety sector, even after having a marred past. There are also people out there with spotless pasts who end up having TERRIBLE 'careers' in their service (career meaning only their time spent, not saying a paid member of an organization).
