Newburgh's rig was in service into the 70s, I believe. It was loaned to New Windsor FD, who remotored it, and then re-aquired by Newburgh

I'm pretty sure it was a FWD. It was quartered at 492 Broadway with Engine 3. Don't know if it is this truck, but it looks similar

Sounds like a Fire Alarm truck?Would be for working on the munincipal Fire Alarm system, if they have one. Newburgh has a rig like that for that purpose.

But the town isn't one department (should be, but it's not) The fact that 63-25 and 64-25 aren't the same is the reason I suggest grouping the apparatus number to a type of apparatus. As far as not using a system because the neighbors are using it, that doesn't make a great excuse. If it works, so what. Right now you have 10 car ones showing up for a typical house fire in the Town of Newburgh already. If you are working with a neighbor from Ulster county, throw the department name in front of the number like they do now

I think Ulster has a good system. Department number, followed by apparatus number. Example: Plattekill. Chief; Car 47. Assistant chiefs: Car 47-1, 47-2, etc. Apparatus; 47-20, 47-50, etc. No department should be a single number. They should start at 10, or 11. I think Ulster starts at 15 for Accord, then they are in alphabetical order from there.

If you wanted to standardize a little, equipment numbers could be grouped as follows; Chief Officers= 1-9, engines= 10-19, rescue=20-29, truck=30-39, brush=40-49, tanker50-59, etc. I any one department, even in the town of Newburgh, would ever have more than 10 engines. Station numbers don't really matter.

Greenville: Car 15 (chief) 15-11 and 15-12 (engines) 15-20 (rescue) and 15-30(truck)

For the county officials; Coordinator; Car 36, and up from there( Don't know how many there really are)

I think it would be a whole lot easier than having so many car ones, engine ones, and truck ones on the air together. Of course, I guess that doesn't really matter anyway, since nobody is on the same frequency anyway.

Only my opinion, but I think they are making things way more complicated than they need to be. A neighboring county has a better, simpler system that has worked for years. again, my opinion.

City of Newburgh staffs 2 engines and the truck with a minimum of a driver, officer, and fireman plus an assistant chief, 24/7.

City of Newburgh was not called to this fire for whatever reason. Maybe at a mile and a half, we are too far away to get there quickly.

The guys on the police forum probably said the same thing about the invention of the fit5 coward grenade that so many local fire departments use.

Nothing scary about it. Dry powder fire extiguishers are charged with nitrogen. The only danger associated with it is that it displaces oxygen.

I've noticed some posters have commented about 20+ minute response times for FAST.

In Orange County that is partially because there is a policy that neighboring departments with FAST teams will not be called because they feel the FAST team firefighters might be too emotionally attached to firefighters in trouble, and may make rash decisions. Does this make sense? I don't think it does. Do police departments have a policy that says neighboring districts can't respond to a 10-13 because they may be "too emotionally attached", I don't think so!

Also, I think every department should have a FAST team, not just certain ones.

In Orange County, the 20+ minute response is because in Orange County, much like every other area with volunteer firefighters, it isn't a requirement for firefighters to be trained in F.A.S.T. in order to be allowed to ride a firetruck. It has nothing to do with neighboring departments being emotionally attached. Until the state says to ride a firetruck, you have to be trained (certified?) in all the important things, not just able to close the door and fasten your seatbelt, there is not much that's going to change.

Does it carry any other hose, other than a 100' preconnect on the front bumper? What size tank?

Just a little off topic here but I ended up in Newburgh Sunday morning after getting bad directions to my sons soccer game in New Windsor and ended up at the fire house @ Broadway and 217?. Stopped to ask the Brothers for some directions and they were closed. Was this house shut down? I do remember protesting with the 5th district last winter for our brothers and thought they had "won the battle". Whats the story up there? Coulda used that company that night!!!!!

If "cmd" stands for Command, I don't think so. We can't hear what the county radio traffic is, so I don't know how long before Car 1 gave his update. The fire isn't under control in Newburgh, until Newburgh command, not the county, declare the fire under control.

It all comes down to the NYS training requirements which are an absolute joke. Include FF 2, survival and FAST as the basic FF course. If the training is too much, go join the Elks lodge.

My department encourages everyone who is an interior firefighter to train with the FASTeam and eventually join. However, you cannot put non-FAST trained members on a FAST assignment though, which is why it comes down to a special team in volunteer departments in NYS. Unless you require every interior member to be certified with survival and FAST, then it is going to have to be a special team.

I believe, and maybe one of our Academy Instructors can say for certain, that it is a required skill for the Career Academy. Why is it a bad concept to make it a requirement for Volunteer Departments? Everyone who is able to put on an airpack, should be trained to get themselves, as well as their Brother Firefighter out of a jam. Trouble doesn't wait until the FAST team is on the scene, at Career OR Volunteer fires. Why the double standard?

How about putting up fire towers and issuing binoculars and signal mirrors?
