I have a question for our Maryland brothers.
Does everyone in MD walk around with a lit match?

I don't get it. Maybe one of the LEO's on the site can explain it. According to the Post this morning, both DeBlasio and Bratton are to give eulogies at the funerals. While Bratton maybe has 5 more minutes of credibility left in his police career, DeBlasio has none. Why would the families of the officers allow a person who fanned the flames of the conflagration that took their loved ones to speak at their funerals?
I would never allow a politician an opportunity to 'rehabilitate' their image at such a solemn family ceremony, public though it may be. And, of course, any remarks by DeBlasio are not heart felt or genuine, they are mearly meant to shore up his image and in no way would reflect his true feelings.
    I just don't get it.

May they rest in peace. I hope their funerals draw the largest contingent of police officers from around the country that there has ever been. A million man march of cops, a show of solidarity so enormous that it will shake the very cores of the feckless politicians who embrace the likes of Sharpton and his ilk. There is no question that the deaths of these officers has a direct link not only to the rabble rousers like Sharpton but to the comments of politicians like DeBlasio, Holder and Obama who profit from the phony race narrative they put forth. And, a special FU to NBC for providing a known racial arsonist a platform and means of legitimacy not deserved.

Reading the incident reports it is apparent up in Orange County that Newburgh, West Point and Stewart AFB mix quite frequently with the surrounding volunteer departments and in Westchester the Montrose VA dept mixes with the local volunteer departments as well.

I don't understand why there is opposition to responding in emergency mode to cover. Clearly you shouldn't respond as you would to a 10-75, but you need to get where you're going and quickly. When we relocate to another company to cover, we respond in emergency mode, slow and steady, but lights and siren non the less.
You're relocating to another area because at that moment there is inadequate fire protection there. What good am I to the people in, say Riverdale, if I'm 150 blocks away and a 1st due alarm comes in for fire, or anything else? When return, you drive with traffic.

I worked in Bridgeport for over 20 years. During that entire time it was a City trying to hold on or in decline and I believe it still is. Bridgeport's hayday was pre and post WWII when the City was a major manufacturing center with GE, Remington and many other major corporations operating there. The company I worked for sold the building they built and operated from for 70 years and moved to Stratford.
Wherever the money goes, it sure didn't go toward fire apparatus. They operated a mix of some pretty old pieces as front line apparatus with the newer and they are a busy department with a steady stream of workers in some pretty old buildings.

So much for trying to keep things the same for training and being familiar with your patrol vehicle.

There are now half as many Friendly's from their high of around 600. Competition from the newer, trendy restaurants has hurt them. I still think they are one of the more consistently good places out there.

Nice addition for Stratford and it will have a nice home in their HQ which was a new build about 10 years ago.
In addition to the Stratford FD, Stratford also has a huge Sikorsky facility and they operate their own impressive industrial fire department with some nice equipment including a boat and they house a State bomb disposal unit.

I agree, not a kick to the head, an effort to get his cap out of the way and in which could have been something dangerous since he had not been searched yet. Beat down is not a proper label.
It's very simple, don't resist, comply with lawful instructions and nobody gets hurt.
